Guardiola hails Arteta, labels Arsenal Europe’s toughest test

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described Mikel Arteta as “extraordinary” and ranked Arsenal among the toughest opponents in Europe ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal, who finished as City’s closest challengers in recent seasons, are unbeaten in their last five encounters with the side.

The last meeting between both clubs saw the Gunners claim a stunning 5-1 victory in north London just seven months ago.

Ahead of the new campaign, Arteta strengthened his squad with high-profile additions including Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, a move Guardiola believes has made Arsenal even stronger.

Praise for Arteta and Arsenal’s growth

Speaking in his prematch press conference, Guardiola hailed his former assistant: “Hopefully, it is an unbelievable squad, and this season we can make more of a challenge because Mikel is an extraordinary manager.

“They increase the squad in four or five transfer windows. It is one of the toughest opponents you can find right now in Europe.”

Guardiola also admitted City lost focus in the closing stages of their last meeting: “The last 15–20 minutes were a disaster. We forgot to do what we have to do. After that, it was easy for Arsenal.”

Arsenal’s rising strength

The City boss highlighted the Gunners’ all-round qualities, including their attacking pace and efficiency from set pieces under coach Nicolas Jover.

“For me, it is the most solid team; they don’t make mistakes. They have pace up front. They have set pieces with Nico, who was here. In every department we know the quality they have,” he added.

Guardiola admitted City must adapt quickly on Sunday and improve from last season, especially in game management during the final minutes.

Strong start to the season

Arsenal head into the fixture in strong form, winning four of their opening five matches across all competitions, including a Champions League triumph over Athletic Club.

They have scored 11 goals and conceded just once, proving how tough their defense has been so far.

Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 in a heated Premier League encounter at Old Trafford that saw both Robert Sanchez and Casemiro sent off.

The game exploded into life early when Chelsea’s goalkeeper Sanchez was dismissed just five minutes in for a reckless challenge on Bryan Mbeumo, leaving the visitors with an uphill battle.

Fernandes and Casemiro put United ahead

United capitalised on their numerical advantage as Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock before Casemiro doubled the lead with a powerful header.

The hosts appeared to be in control as Chelsea struggled to reorganise following their goalkeeper’s dismissal.

United reduced to Ten Men

Things shifted midway through the second half when Casemiro, already booked, received a second yellow card for a rash foul on Andrey Santos.

The red card gave Chelsea a way back into the contest and spurred them forward in search of goals.

Chalobah strike not enough

Enzo Maresca’s side found hope late on through Trevoh Chalobah, who converted to halve the deficit.

Despite mounting pressure, Chelsea were unable to find an equaliser, and Ruben Amorim’s men held their ground to secure all three valuable points.

How My Husband Reacted When I Told Him I Want To Undergo BBL Surgery – Actress, Uche Ogbodo

Uche Ogbodo, the Nollywood actress, has disclosed that her husband backed her decision to undergo BBL surgery after realizing the challenges she experienced with her body post-childbirth.

The businesswoman explained that her choice was driven by her need to feel confident and improve her mental health.

The mother of three said that after three cesarean deliveries, her figure had changed, and she wanted to make a transformation for her own happiness.

In an interview with Saturday Punch, she stressed that the surgery was for herself and not to please anyone else.

Ogbodo also explained why she chose to be open about her procedure, unlike many celebrities who keep such matters private.

She said honesty about her experience can motivate other women to embrace self-improvement and take steps toward feeling good about themselves.

She acknowledged the risks involved in surgery but said she felt secure knowing she was in professional care.

She said: “Well, about being naturally endowed, I don’t know how you mean because I didn’t have an hourglass shape. Growing up, I was very busty, but that’s not all beauty entails nowadays. Starting to have babies didn’t help matters for me. I didn’t like what I looked like when I looked back at myself after my third baby. So I felt like I owed it to myself to be happy and confident.

“I had to have work done on myself for me, not for any other person, but for my mental health to feel good, okay, and enough. I am enough competition for myself.

“In this country, I always find it a bit awkward that people are not honest and transparent most times, especially celebrities. You’re a role model, and then you lie to people who look up to you or who love you genuinely. Why are you a shining star when you cannot be a torchbearer for other people?

“I am somebody who likes to encourage women and help them build themselves up, using my life experiences to preach hope for women who don’t believe enough in themselves.

“So many people just go and disappear, and they come out with a banging body. They look like that’s how they were born. That’s not how you were born. You worked on your body. So why are you now hiding the fact that you worked on yourself?”

Begin Handover Note, Nigerians Won’t Renew Mandate In 2027 – PDP Tells Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to begin preparing his handover note, asserting that Nigerians will not grant him a second term in the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the PDP state secretariat in Yola on Friday, the party’s Organising Secretary in Adamawa State, Hamza Madagali, said citizens have lost patience with Tinubu’s administration.

Madagali accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of lacking direction and failing the country.

He added that the PDP’s recent ward congresses in Adamawa showed the party was united and ready to return to power.

Madagali said the composition of the National Convention committees showed that the APC’s time in power at the presidency was coming to an end.

According to him, Nigerians have learned from past mistakes and will not gamble with the future of their children.

“Nigerians are wiser now; they now know the difference between original and fake. The only way out is to return the PDP back to power.”

Why I Refused To Challenge Emergency Rule – Fubara Opens Up

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that he chose not to yield to pressure from his supporters to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in the state, stressing that his decision was driven by the need to safeguard peace, stability, and progress for the people.

Fubara stated this on Friday during a statewide broadcast after his return to the state following the expiration of the emergency rule.

The governor and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and the Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Edison Ehie, arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, two days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency imposed on the state and ordered his reinstatement.

Their aircraft with number 5N-BTX touched down at 12:15 pm and they were received to a heroic welcome.

On the ground to receive Governor Fubara were several of his supporters, including a former Commissioner for Information and Communications, Emma Okah; former Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh; former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Orji Ngofa; former Commissioner for Environment, Sydney Gbara; and former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo.

Others present were former Commissioner for Youths, Chisom Gbali; former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Evans Bipi; former President of NUPENG, Igwe Achese; former Commissioner for Education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja; as well as former council chairmen of Port Harcourt City, Ezebunwo Ichemati, among others.

President Tinubu, on Wednesday, announced an end to the emergency rule, which ended the six-month tenure of ex-naval chief, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as Rivers State sole administrator.

Rivers State has faced one of Nigeria’s fiercest political crises, pitting Fubara against his predecessor and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.

Once allies, their fallout over control of state structures and resources split the House of Assembly, sparking impeachment moves, protests, and violence, including the burning of the Assembly complex.

President Tinubu intervened with a peace deal, which failed to calm frayed nerves, before the declaration of emergency rule.

In a statement on the cessation of the emergency rule on Wednesday, made available by the Presidency, the President said, “The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from September 18, 2025.

“It, therefore, gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today (Wednesday).”

Fubara was expected to resume on Thursday as many of his supporters thronged the gate of the Government House along Azikiwe Street, Port Harcourt, as early as 6am on Thursday, but the governor failed to resume.
