Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumours linking Erling Haaland with a move to Barcelona, insisting the prolific striker is “not stupid enough” to consider leaving Manchester City after penning a 10-year contract extension.
Haaland, who has already scored 11 goals in eight games this season, recently committed his long-term future to the Premier League champions.
Speaking ahead of City’s weekend fixture, Guardiola said Haaland’s decision to stay reflected his ambition and intelligence.
“I think Erling isn’t stupid enough to sign something he doesn’t want to accomplish, that is for sure,” he said.
“But it’s football, who knows what will happen? Nobody knows. What I do know is that he has a long contract here, and he’s doing really well and scoring a lot of goals.”
Guardiola added that Laporta’s admiration for Haaland was only natural, given the Norwegian’s extraordinary impact.
“Can you tell me one club that wouldn’t dream of Erling Haaland?” he asked.
“I understand Barcelona dream of him, and so would every club in the world. If he weren’t with us, it would be a dream for Manchester City to have him.”
The 53-year-old praised Haaland’s integration into the team, crediting his teammates for creating the opportunities that allow him to shine.
Barcelona suffered their first La Liga defeat of the season in humiliating fashion as Sevilla cruised to a 4-1 victory in Andalusia on Sunday.
Ronald Araujo’s foul on Isaac Romero inside the box gifted Sevilla an early breakthrough, confirmed after a VAR review.
Marcus Rashford briefly gave Barcelona hope with his first La Liga goal from a superb Pedri cross just before the break.
However, Robert Lewandowski wasted a golden chance to equalise in the 76th minute, sending his penalty wide after Alejandro Balde was fouled.
Jose Angel Carmona’s finish and Akor Adams’ stoppage-time strike completed a dominant display for Sevilla, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Barcelona remain second on the table, while Sevilla climb to fourth after their famous victory.
Erling Haaland’s fine scoring run continued as Manchester City edged Brentford 1-0 to hand Pep Guardiola his 250th Premier League win.
Guardiola became only the 16th manager to reach 250 wins with a single club, achieving the feat in just 349 matches, 74 games faster than any other manager in league history.
Haaland sealed the win early, muscling past Sepp van den Berg to control Josko Gvardiol’s looping cross before calmly slotting beyond Caoimhin Kelleher.
The goal was his third this week and 18th in just 11 appearances for club and country this season.
City controlled proceedings but were forced to protect their narrow lead for over 80 minutes.
Their victory was dampened by concern for Rodri, who limped off after 21 minutes. The midfielder, still regaining full sharpness after last season’s ACL injury, faces another spell of uncertainty ahead of the international break.
The Big Brother Naija Season 10 show has had its grand finale with Imisi emerging victorious, claiming the cash prize of 80 million Naira.
The grand finale, which aired on October 5, 2025, has been a highly anticipated event in the reality show.
The grand finale, hosted by show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, saw Kaybobo as the first evicted housemate, followed by Isabella.
Their eviction was followed by Mensan and Jason Jae leaving, with Koyin, Dede, Imisi, Sultana, and Kola remaining as the top five.
Among the top five housemates at the grand finale, Kola was the first housemate to be evicted, followed by Sultana and koyin leaving Dede and Imisi as the top two.
However, Imisi was declared the winner on stage by Ebuka-Obi-Uchendu.
Meanwhile, Imisi has now joined the list of previous BBNaija winners, including Mercy Eke of Season 4 (Pepper Dem Edition), Laycon of Season 5 (Lockdown Edition), and KellyRae of Season 9 (No Loose Guard Edition).
During the show, she was one of the most talked-about housemates, whose Instagram account skyrocketed from 63 followers to over 10,000 followers within 24 hours of the show’s launch on July 24, 2025.
A portion of the First Bank building on Library Avenue in Umuahia, Abia State, has collapsed.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2025 sent panic across the busy commercial area that houses several financial institutions, offices and shops.
Details about possible casualties or the extent of damage remain sketchy, but emergency responders and security operatives are said to have arrived at the scene to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
According to eyewitnesses, parts of the building gave way during off working hours, forcing nearby traders and passersby to flee the area.
Natasha Akide, a former Big Brother Naija reality star, who is popularly known as Tacha, has reacted to the disqualification of Faith Adewale from the ongoing 10th season of the show.
Recall that Faith was disqualified from the competition following a scuffle with fellow housemate Sultana during a group task rehearsal.
Reacting during an interview on TVC News, Tacha stated that Faith’s disqualification was justified.
“There’s nothing disappointing about Faith’s disqualification. I saw the clip of his altercation with Sultana. As much as he is always demanding respect, he should also know that respect is reciprocal.
“Whatever the task was, I don’t think it was that deep for them to dragged the bucket to the point of injuring Sultana. When you go into the house, there’s a rule book. You know you can’t at any point be physical with another housemate. And if you do, the judgement is in Big Brother’s hand,” Tacha said.
It would be recalled that Tacha was disqualified from the ‘Pepper Dem’ season in 2019 for violent conduct.
The founder of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has stated that only God can remove President Bola Tinubu from office when the appointed time comes.
Bakare made this statement on Saturday during the inaugural edition of the Citadel School of Governance Dialogue Series in Lagos.
He insisted that Tinubu’s emergence as Nigeria’s leader was divinely ordained.
“If God wants to remove ‘Emilokan,’ He knows how to do it. You can’t get the kind of thing Tinubu has brought without God’s support,”Bakare declared.
According to the cleric, Tinubu’s ascent to power was not accidental but a product of divine orchestration.
“You can’t deny that his rise and what he has achieved came through the hand of God,” he added.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 general elections, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to disregard calls for him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Jandor, Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, gave this advise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.
According to him, Jonathan would be taking a political risk by contesting, predicting he would be reduced to a minnow by President Bola Tinubu at the polls.
Jandor urged the ex-president to stay in retirement.
He further told Jonathan that those telling him to run against Tinubu were deceiving him, reiterating that Tinubu is a master in the game of politics, who cannot be defeated by Jonathan or any other figure in 2027.
“I disagree with people calling on Jonathan to re-contest, people saying Jonathan is the only person who can challenge Tinubu, citing his popularity and experience.
“It was this same man (Tinubu) who defeated him (Jonathan) from the outside. So, they are not the same. If you accidentally found yourself at the Aso Villa as President, it is different from somebody who gave his all to get there.
“It is different from somebody who, against all odds, got there. They did all sorts for him not to get there, and he got there. Such a man, cannot be put side by side with somebody who just slept and woke up and found himself on the seat of President,” he said.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has asserted that Nigeria will remain unable to achieve its full potential as long as corrupt and incompetent leaders remain in power.
In a post on X on Sunday, Effiong said Nigerians must confront what he described as a “rotten system” instead of expecting those he called “criminally minded politicians” to reform themselves.
According to him, believing that such leaders will someday work for the nation’s progress is delusional.
Effiong said: “Nigeria will never fulfill its true potentials as long as Nigerians continue to allow the worst among them to rule the country.
“The expectation that the criminals and criminally minded politicians who are ruining the country will someday become circumspect, and begin to work for the progress of Nigeria is delusional.
“We either confront this rotten system and those operating it or we live in perpetual servitude.”
