Rema Opens Up About Early Fame, Drugs, and Exploitation in New Track

Nigerian musician Rema has talked about the difficulties he encountered after being well-known at a young age and how he was exposed to negative situations early in his career.

The musician, who rose to prominence after signing with Mavin Records in 2019, claimed that the demands of his sudden notoriety were difficult for him to handle at the time.

In his new song Moviestar, which he co-wrote with French pianist Sofiane Pamart, Rema revealed what he now considers to be exploitative events.

“I always get drugs from girls.”
My joy is contained in their tiny purse. I always feel plundered by friends. The 25-year-old said that because of how early he entered the public eye, many fans might not really get his personal challenges.

He also mentioned the demands of his record deal, suggesting that his well-being was frequently eclipsed by the need to perform and produce.

Rema’s remarks draw attention to the unspoken constraints that young artists encounter in the business, particularly when success comes rapidly and there aren’t many support networks.

Alleged Rape Case: UNILAG Lecturer In Court for Sexually Assaulting a Student

A 20-year-old University of Lagos student broke down in tears at the Lagos State High Court as she recounted a harrowing assault by her lecturer, Samuel Obinna Ojogbo. On Wednesday, a 20-year-old University of Lagos student described to a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja how Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, a 53-year-old lecturer at the institution, allegedly attacked her in his office.

As the first prosecution witness in Ojogbo’s ongoing trial, the student testified before Justice Oyindamola Ogala. Ojogbo is facing two charges of rape and sexual assault from the Lagos State Government.

The witness, who was led in evidence-in-chief by prosecution attorney A.O. Azeez, stated that the event happened at the university’s Akoka campus on August 22, 2025, at around 1200 hours.

When the victim entered the witness box, she began by introducing herself: “I am a student of the University of Lagos.”

She recalled that a day before the incident, while writing an examination, the defendant approached her. The victim stated, “Prior to the 22nd of August, 2025, on the 21st of August, I was writing an exam not related to banking.

“I was seated in the first row, the first seat. The defendant came inside at the first row while I was writing my exam and asked, ‘Hope it is what I read that came out?’ I said yes, that I knew a particular section more than the other section.”

She said, “After my exam, he told me not to worry and to come see him in his office.” The witness told the court that she attempted to meet him twice after the exam but did not find him in his office.

According to her, “The second time I went with my friend, he wasn’t around either, so I left. “The second day, being 22nd August, I had another exam slated from 9:00am to 12:00pm, but the defendant was the one taking us.

However, on August 22, after completing another examination, she said she encountered the lecturer near her faculty.

“I was going to my hostel when I saw him. He signalled to me to wait. He signalled to me that I should wait, and I waited because he was talking to somebody. “We then went to his office together,” she said.

Describing the office, she told the court, “His office is underground. There is no window and no secretary.” She said that while they were talking, two female students briefly entered the office to meet him about the tests they missed, but were sent away by the defendant.

“He told them to leave, that they were disturbing him,” she said. According to her, the incident occurred shortly after.

“On their way out, they didn’t close the door well. He told me to close the door. As I went to close it, he stood behind me and pushed me to the couch beside the door,” she said.

The prosecution witness narrated amidst tears that “he started caressing me, touched my breasts, and then forced himself on me. He raped me.”

She further told the court that after the incident, the defendant allegedly made promises regarding her academic progress. “He said he would make sure he supervises my project in Year Four. He collected my exam docket, made a copy, gave me one, and collected my phone number,” she said.

The witness said she left the office in tears and immediately reported the incident. she said, “I went to my friend crying, and we agreed to report.”

Before they went to the department head, she informed the court that she initially reported to a lecturer in her department, who then got in touch with her uncle, who is also a lecturer.

“After that, we visited Dr. Abu, a lecturer in my department; he summoned my uncle, who also teaches there. We then proceeded to the HOD’s office. “Where is the evidence, and why don’t I record with my phone?” he said when we arrived in the HOD’s office.

The defendant was then summoned to his office. When the defendant arrived, he claimed that I was lying to him and that nothing of the such had occurred.

“My uncle and I should just let it go, the HOD stated, and I should be extra cautious with professors alone the next time. After that, we departed from his office.

We can’t just let it go like that, according to my uncle. At school, we visited Servicom. I went to the medical center for testing with a woman when I arrived at Servicom. They then gave prescriptions for medications.

She also stated in her testimony that she was referred to the police after reporting the incident to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

She stated, “I was referred to the Bariga Police Station and then to WARIF for another test.” She added that the case was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit of the police command for investigation.

The witness also told the court that following the report, there were attempts at settlement. “After all these, the defendant’s family and friends started calling for a meeting,” she said.

In order to allow for the witness’s cross-examination, Justice Ogala postponed the case until April 27, 2026.

Police Recruitment: April 28–30 Fixed For Nationwide CBT

The dates of the Computer-Based Aptitude Test for applicants in the ongoing police recruiting process are April 28–30, 2026, according to the Police Service Commission.

The test will be administered in all 36 states as well as the Federal Capital Territory after the nationwide physical and credentials screening, which is scheduled to conclude on April 18.

Police Public Relations Officer Ahmad Rufa’i stated that the CBT is a crucial step in the hiring process in a statement released by the Sokoto State Police Command on Thursday.

He stated, “The Computer-Based Aptitude Test is a crucial stage intended to guarantee that only suitably qualified candidates are recruited into the Nigeria Police Force.”

Rufa’i explained that the duration of the test in each state would depend on the number of candidates and the availability of functional CBT centres, noting that some states may complete the exercise in one day, while others could require the full three-day window.

“The scheduling is flexible to accommodate operational realities across states, but every eligible candidate will be given a fair opportunity to participate,” he added. He urged applicants to remain calm and await further details on venue allocation and the official list of successful candidates.

“Applicants are urged to exercise patience and to depend solely on information from official sources. In due course, information about the locations and shortlisted applicants will be shared,” Rufa’i said.

“2.2 Million Students, 966 Centres, Oloyede Launches High-Tech 2026 UTME Examination

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) kicked off nationwide on Thursday, April 16, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate through April 22. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will administer the test in several sessions every day from April 16 to April 22.

Examination staff were tasked by JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede to exhibit the highest level of dedication and professionalism, emphasizing that their performance and commitment to duty are crucial to the UTME’s success.

During a virtual final briefing for technical personnel prior to the test, Oloyede took the lead.

He praised employees, ad hoc workers, service providers, and technical experts for helping to make the mock exam a success. According to him, most challenges recorded during the mock exercise were linked to inadequate assessment of centres by some technical officials.

Oloyede added that incentive packages would be provided for teams that demonstrate exceptional performance, including prompt handling of examination materials and timely submission of reports.

He reiterated JAMB’s zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice and warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He claims that cutting-edge technology has been used to protect the exam’s integrity, such as biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems.

Additionally, the registrar said that candidates whose biometric information could not be confirmed would be rescheduled to take the test at locations that the board had allowed. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UTME remains one of Nigeria’s largest coordinated educational exercises, involving extensive logistics, technology deployment and personnel coordination nationwide.

There are four sessions on each exam day to reduce congestion at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and enhance biometric verification processes. For the 2026 UTME, about 966 CBT centres are participating, each required to meet operational standards, including functional computer systems, stable connectivity and trained personnel.

The first session, which was supposed to start at 8:30 a.m, actually started at around 8:40 a.m., according to a NAN correspondent who observed one of the centers at Aduvie International School, Jahi.

Messi’s Former Mentor Takes Over Inter Miami, Vows To Get Tough With The GOAT

Guillermo Hoyos stated that he won’t let his long friendship with Lionel Messi stop him from working the Argentine superstar hard in training, as he was unveiled as the new coach of MLS side Inter Miami on Wednesday.

Hoyos, previously Miami’s sporting director, replaces Javier Mascherano, who departed the club for “personal reasons” on Tuesday, just four months after guiding the club to its first MLS Cup title.

The 62-year-old Hoyos was an important previous instructor of Messi with Barcelona’s youth team more than two decades ago, and the Argentine pair have remained close ever since. “Friendship is non-negotiable. We share a friendship that spans many years,” said Hoyos, speaking in Spanish, at his first press conference.

“However, that friendship does not mean that we will be constantly hovering over him or in his face every single day.”

Hoyos will be in control of the team for the “upcoming matches,” according to a club statement, but the team has already referred to him as head coach in social media posts. Club sources told AFP that Hoyos is expected to remain at the helm only until the middle of the year, with a new coaching setup in place by the start of the Leagues Cup in August.

After seven rounds this season, Inter Miami sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference.

The star of Miami’s team is Messi, who won the World Cup in 2022 and has won eight Ballon d’Or awards.

Naira Gains Muscle: Dollar Crashes To N1,344 As CBN Moves To Crush Black Market Gap

The Nigerian Naira strengthened to approximately N1,344 per dollar in the official market on April 16, 2026, driven by increased foreign inflows and Central Bank of Nigeria reforms. In the early hours of Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Nigerian Naira showed a firming trend against the US dollar as strategic policy actions and greater market supply continued to impact currency valuations.

The Naira began the session with a significant increase in value on the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the official window for currency transactions, trading at approximately N1,344.20 per Dollar. Real-time data from the morning sessions showed the currency maintaining a stable range, hitting an early high of N1,343.83 before settling near the N1,344 mark. This positive movement is being attributed by analysts to improved foreign currency inflows and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s consistent efforts to clear the backlog of foreign exchange demands.

In the side market, commonly referred to as the black market, the exchange rate also reflected a slight cooling of pressure. Reports from currency dealers in major hubs like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt indicate that the Dollar is currently trading between N1,455 and N1,480. While the informal sector continues to demand a premium due to retail and small-scale business needs, the gap between the official and parallel rates has shown signs of narrowing compared to earlier in the week.

According to financial experts, the mood of the market is currently upbeat, bolstered by recent economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the local currency. However, they remain cautious, noting that the demand for the Dollar for international education, travel, and seasonal imports remains a key variable for the remainder of the month.

Trading activity has been orderly as of 7:00 AM WAT, with participants keeping a careful eye on the mid-day fixing for more signs on the currency’s short-term direction.

Singer Omawumi Defends Transactional Love, Claims Women Have Long Throat

Omawunmi, a Nigerian musician, has expressed her opinions on how relationships have changed over time. She refuted the notion that relationships in the modern era are more transactional, pointing out that although relationships have always involved trades, they now seem different.

“I disagree,” the singer said in a podcast segment with Pulse. Because we women have had long throat since the beginning of time, you know, but our transactional was different because if it was all those like secondary school to uni days of holding hands or crushing on a girl or a boy, you know, you just stay there, buy them ice cream and popcorn. But now, it’s now iPhone.”

Explaining further, she said people often misunderstand the word “transactional,” stressing that mutual effort is a normal part of relationships.

“Some sort of transaction has always existed. Therefore, the word “transactional” has a lot of power when used. If I’m dating a man who gives me presents, I always strive to equal that energy, so if you’re feeling someone, I always encourage that.

She also discussed how the public views women, pointing out that even when they reciprocate in diverse ways, they are frequently perceived as merely receiving.

However, the majority of people don’t think that women have the same level of energy. They just see the women only collecting. So men, they go overboard sometimes, just especially because some men tend to like shiny objects. And shiny objects, not the only one person they like. So everybody is struggling to get that shiny object.” She concluded by highlighting consistency as a major issue in modern relationships, saying effort often fades after initial attraction.

“And once you’ve finished obtaining it, you’ll need to cut back on all the paparazzi you were doing earlier. No, today. You must maintain your energy.
