Strike: ASUU NEC To Review FG’s Final Terms On Wednesday

The National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities is set to meet on Wednesday to determine the union’s next steps following the conclusion of renegotiations conducted by the Federal Government-appointed committee led by Yayale Ahmed, The PUNCH reports.

In a last-minute effort to avert a fresh ASUU strike, the government’s renegotiation team reconvened talks with the union on Monday.

The meeting, which began yesterday, is expected to formally conclude today (Tuesday), according to a senior ASUU NEC member who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions placed on media engagement during the negotiation process.

“The renegotiation meeting started on Monday and will end on Tuesday. After that, NEC will meet and determine our next steps by Wednesday. Everyone will know the outcome then,”
the NEC member said.

ASUU’s one-month ultimatum to the Federal Government elapsed on Saturday, heightening anxiety across public universities.

The union has repeatedly threatened a full-scale strike, accusing the government of a “nonchalant” attitude towards its longstanding demands.

The demands include the review of the 2009 ASUU–Federal Government agreement, payment of outstanding salaries and earned allowances, and the release of funds for university revitalisation.

Despite these grievances, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who is currently out of the country, insists that the government has met the union’s demands.

Speaking to State House correspondents two weeks ago, Alausa reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s directive that no strike should occur in public universities, stressing that negotiations were ongoing.

“As I told you, the President has mandated us that he doesn’t want ASUU to go on strike, and we’re doing everything humanly possible to ensure that our students stay in school,”
he said.

“We’ve met nearly all their requirements and have returned to the negotiation table. We will resolve this.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress has declared its support for ASUU, warning that it will “fight alongside the academic community” if the government fails to address the union’s demands.

I Had No Blueprint While Coming Up As An Artist, I Had To Build A Structure For Myself – Wizkid New Claim (Video)

Wizkid, the world-famous Nigerian singer, has stirred controversy after stating that he had no blueprint during his rise to fame, despite having launched his career under Banky W’s record label.

The Ojuelegba crooner made the statement in a snippet of his upcoming HBO documentary Long Live Lagos.

“There was no blueprint for me. I had to build a structure for myself,”
he claimed.

His comment sparked debate on social media, with many insisting that it not only downplayed Banky W’s impact on his career but also disrespected the great Nigerian musicians who paved the way for the new generation of artists.

Wizkid, however, admitted elsewhere in the documentary that Fela Kuti inspired him to pursue music.

“Fela Kuti was instrumental to why I believe I could really make music,”
he said.

Some of the reactions on X include:

Franko_Nero wrote: “I still vividly remember the day that Bankole [Banky W] announced on a show that he wants to introduce a boy wonder, a germ in the making. Today, this ungrateful child is claiming otherwise. If Banky knew that today would come, I am sure he would have chased him far away.”

Arhcent said: “This guy is erasing the role Banky W and EME played in his career. The person Banky picked from school into the studio is saying ‘I had to build a structure for myself.’ God sees all.”

Duke of Isoko wrote: “If he never built a structure, Banky probably wouldn’t have noticed him. This dude came out with his own style of music, dressing sense, etc., but I understand that English is a problem in this place.”

Sir Dickson opined: “People are debating this with reference to Banky’s impact in his life. There is no real context to that. I believe he was speaking about his style of music. He reinvented himself. Wiz has never denied Banky’s impact, nor can he. Let’s calm down.”

I Was Shocked – Nollywood Actress, Ariyiike Dimples Reveals Why She Stopped Going To Church For 3 Years (Video)

Ariyike Owolagba, a Nollywood actress and media personality popularly known as Ariyiike Dimples, has shared a frustrating experience that led her to stop attending church.

Ariyiike Dimples, in an interview on the ‘Open Up’ podcast,  said she had stopped going to church for three years after a church elder questioned her fashion sense.

The thespian said the elderly woman told her she would go to hell for wearing a pencil skirt to church.

According to her, the woman considered the dressing to be indecent.

Ariyiike Dimples, however, added that she is still a practising Christian despite quitting church.

She said, “In my community church, you see only elderly people. You barely see the young ones. The young ones have gone to other churches. It was too serious. Yes, you can have your doctrines, but there is a way you can simplify it for young people and take them in without judging them.

“The reason I stopped going to church was because I wore a pencil skirt to church and an elderly woman said I will go to hell fire. I was shocked and felt wrongly judged so I stopped going to church for 3 years. And thankfully, I was already out of my parents’ house.

“The woman reported me to my dad. I had to take picture of the skirt and send to my mum to prove that I wasn’t dressing indecently. But my dad believed in the ideology of a community raising a child. So, I chose to avoid the community church so that they won’t see me.”

More Trouble For Nigerian TikToker, DJ Chicken As Ogun Govt Moves To Prosecute Him Over Multiple Road Crashes

The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has revealed plans to prosecute TikToker Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, in connection with a vehicular incident that took place on November 1, 2025, in Sagamu, Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, DJ Chicken crashed into two motorcycles, seriously injuring a rider and a lady passenger, and attempted to leave the scene without showing remorse.

“On 1 November 2025, Mr Abiodun crashed into two motorcycles in Sagamu, Ogun State, seriously injuring a rider and a lady passenger.

“Mr Abiodun was unremorseful and attempted to leave the scene of the incident, which provoked an angry reaction from passersby who mobbed him,” the statement noted.

“At the time, the Ogun State Police Command began investigation and review of the circumstances, mindful to prioritise the medical care, privacy, and recovery of the victims.”

The statement further revealed that DJ Chicken was involved in another road crash in Lekki, Lagos State, on November 23, 2025, which is reportedly his third accident in two months.

“Yesterday, 23 November 2025, in Lekki, Lagos State, Mr Abiodun was again involved in another road crash. This lone car incident almost harmed pedestrians, but for good fortune and the pedestrians’ quick reflexes.

“Yesterday’s incident is reportedly the third road crash in two months involving Mr Abiodun at the wheel.

“While it may be reasonable to allow crash victims get compensation from persons who have driven recklessly and to resolve road traffic collisions as a civil wrong, some road users are special dangers to society and should be held to account under criminal law.

“Mr Abiodun is one such person. At least two of the crashes were documented in real time video coverage and are self-evident. Mr Abiodun’s heedless return to the wheel with no greater care just three weeks after makes it imperative that the State must intervene to protect the public – especially as there is an organic outcry against his continued driving,”the statement partly read.

Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, has directed officials to expedite action on the case, citing DJ Chicken’s “heedless return to the wheel” as a threat to public safety.

“The State must intervene to protect the public. Mr Abiodun’s actions make it imperative that he be held accountable under criminal law,” the statement reads.

“According you, the Attorney-General and Honourable Commissioner for Justice – Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN – has directed relevant officers to expedite action on the pending crash case from Sagamu for prompt arraignment. The Office of the Attorney-General is working closely with the Police to achieve this outcome.”
