Late Singer, Mohbad’s Widow, Wunmi Gives Update On Her DNA Court Case With Her Father In-Law, Joseph Aloba

I Saw One Senator Recently Calling On Tinubu To Remove Ribadu – Deji Adeyanju Says

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Wednesday called for the open trial of terrorism suspects, following the House of Representatives’ demand that the Federal Government publicly identify terrorism financiers.

Lawmakers at Wednesday’s plenary adopted a report from its security debate held last week, passing a resolution that seeks full public disclosure and swift sanctions.

The report stated, “That financiers of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping be publicly named, sanctioned and prosecuted.

“That terrorism-related prosecutions be open, expeditious and transparent.”

Deji Adeyanju, in an interview with Vanguard, said, “I think that the Reps are not serious because many of them are not sincere. It is a known fact that some politicians hold meetings with terrorists in their constituencies.

“Did you not see the recent video of a local government chairman in one of the northern states holding discussions with terrorists? There is no genuine commitment on the part of the government to confront this problem. The Reps are simply unserious. Is it an open trial that will solve the problem?

“There is too much romance with terrorists in Nigeria. The only time you feel the presence of security agencies is when people call for a protest. Once there is a call for protest, that is when you suddenly see the full weight of the Nigerian security apparatus.

“But when it concerns actual public safety and national security, everything becomes business as usual. Security has been commercialised.

“I saw one senator recently calling on the President to remove Nuhu Ribadu and appoint an ex-General as NSA. Is that what will solve Nigeria’s problems? This wave of insecurity did not start today. ‘’Was it not under Buhari that insecurity became entrenched?

“Large parts of the country were practically conceded to terrorists. The Abuja–Kaduna expressway was overrun. Katsina, his home state, witnessed attacks, including the attempted breach of the President’s convoy. Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina and Jigawa were heavily infiltrated by bandits and terrorists.”

Popular Comedian AY Makun Stirs Reactions After Warning People To Beware Of Friends Who Chase Negative News For Clout

Popular Nigerian comedian, AY Makun has sparked online discussion after posting a message about friendship, loyalty, and those who only appear when there’s negative news to circulate.

In a post on X, AY warned his followers to be careful of anyone who calls them “friend” but rushes to jump on negative stories just to trend or make money.

According to him, not everyone smiling around you wishes you well.

His words: “Beware of anyone who calls you a friend yet rushes to jump on any negative news about you just to trend and gain monetization. Not everyone around you wishes you well. May God protect us from friends who are truly enemies in disguise. Their karma is never far.”

But the tweet didn’t end quietly.

An X user quickly replied, claiming AY himself once ignored him years ago in Surulere. He wrote that they met around 2008 or 2009, AY gave him a card, and when he called, it was a PA who kept answering.

He accused AY of “nepotism” and added: “If Alibaba treat you as you treat others, you for no dey where you dey today. Beware of yourself.”

AY responded almost immediately, dismissing the accusation as false. He insisted he didn’t even have a PA in 2008 because he was still building his career at the time. He also said that anyone familiar with comedy in Nigeria would know his relationship with Alibaba has never been an issue.

Another user joined the thread and summarised the whole drama in one line: “Let me simplify it. Avoid friends and acquaintances like Daddy Freeze.”

EFCC Arraigns Two Businessmen For N1.55 Billion Fraud, Illegal Forex Operations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned two businessmen, Dr. Fagite Oladipo and Raymond Akintayo, before the Federal High Court in Lagos on charges of conspiracy, fraud, and the unlawful conversion of N1.55 billion.

The funds were reportedly obtained from Ocean Lord Limited under the pretense of holding a legitimate foreign exchange transaction licence.

Alongside the two individuals, the EFCC also arraigned two corporate entities, Cabota Power Company Limited and Cabota Group Limited, facing an eight-count charge detailing alleged fraudulent activities that occurred between May 2 and May 15, 2025.

At the start of proceedings, EFCC counsel requested that the charges be read to the defendants to enable them to enter their plea. Both Oladipo and Akintayo pleaded not guilty to all counts.

According to the charge sheet before Justice Daniel Osiagor, the EFCC accused the defendants of conspiring to obtain N1.55 billion under false pretences, claiming they had a valid licence to engage in foreign exchange transactions, a licence the prosecution asserts was non-existent.

The EFCC stated that this conduct violates Section 8 and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The anti-graft agency further alleged that the defendants fraudulently converted N464 million belonging to Ocean Lord Limited on May 6, 2025.

The sum was reportedly broken down into four separate amounts: N85 million, N150 million, N208 million, and N121 million. These actions, the EFCC said, contravene Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code Act.

In addition to the fraud and theft charges, the defendants were accused of operating as a financial institution without proper authorisation.

The EFCC claimed that Dr Oladipo and Akintayo conducted bureau de change operations without a licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, violating Section 57(1) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA), 2020.

Following their not guilty plea, the defendants’ counsel, Chief (Dr) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, informed the court that a formal bail application had been filed and served on the prosecution.

EFCC prosecutor Mr Suleiman requested additional time to prepare a counter-affidavit, noting that the bail documents had just been received.

When the defence sought an oral bail application, Justice Osiagor declined, citing the need for procedural fairness.

The defence then requested that the defendants remain in EFCC custody pending the formal hearing of their bail application, a request granted by the court.

The matter was adjourned to December 11, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application.

EPL: Arsenal extend league lead with routine win over Brentford

Arsenal tightened their grip on the Premier League summit with a controlled 2-0 victory over Brentford on Wednesday night, driven by goals from Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka.

Mikel Arteta refreshed his starting XI with three changes from the Chelsea draw, introducing Ben White, Noni Madueke and captain Martin Ødegaard. The adjustments delivered immediate impact.

Merino breaks the deadlock

Arsenal took the lead in the 11th minute. White advanced on the right and delivered a precise cross that found Merino, who powered a header past Caoimhin Kelleher.

Forced into a makeshift striking role due to injuries to Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyökeres, Merino continued his productive run.

The goal marked his 13th of 2025, the highest tally by any Arsenal player this calendar year.

Brentford came closest to responding when Kevin Schade’s header from a corner was tipped onto the crossbar by David Raya, but the visitors struggled to sustain pressure.

Saka seals the result

Arsenal doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time. Merino slipped a well-weighted pass through midfield to Saka, who finished despite Kelleher’s initial touch.

The hosts maintained control after the break, though Arteta suffered two injury concerns, with Cristhian Mosquera and Declan Rice withdrawn after sustaining knocks.

The result extends Arsenal’s unbeaten streak to 18 matches in all competitions and marks their eighth consecutive home victory, reinforcing their strong position at the top of the league.

LaLiga: Mbappe masterclass drives Real Madrid past Athletic Club

Real Madrid delivered one of their most assertive performances of the season as Kylian Mbappe led a dominant 3-0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés.

With both managers under criticism, it was Xabi Alonso who walked away with a statement win, while Ernesto Valverde was left with more questions than answers.

Mbappé strikes early to set the Tone

The match opened with Madrid’s attacking trident in full flow. Trent Alexander-Arnold initiated the breakthrough with a pinpoint diagonal pass that found Mbappé in space.

The Frenchman surged past two defenders before rifling a decisive finish into the bottom corner.

Madrid repeatedly exposed Athletic’s defensive structure, with Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior all finding room between the lines.

Madrid were inches from doubling their lead when the post denied Mbappé, and Unai Simón later produced a strong save to stop another chance.

Thibaut Courtois, meanwhile, produced his trademark highlight moment by denying Álex Berenguer with an elite low stop.

Fluent team move doubles the lead

Real Madrid’s second goal was a showcase of fluid, high-tempo football. Bellingham, Vinicius and Álvaro Carreras combined intricately before the ball was worked to Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back delivered a measured cross that Mbappé headed across goal, leaving Eduardo Camavinga to apply a simple finish.

Athletic rally fizzles out as Mbappé strikes again

Athletic started the second half aggressively, forcing Courtois into another sharp save from Mikel Jauregizar.

But just as they began to grow into the match, Mbappé crushed any hopes of a comeback. Given time outside the box, he unleashed a venomous strike that left Simón helpless.

The goal effectively sealed the contest. Madrid dropped deeper and absorbed pressure, while Athletic struggled to break them down.

Injuries to Alexander-Arnold and Camavinga created minor concerns for Alonso, though neither appeared serious.

Simón was tested again by a long-range Fede Valverde strike, but the final stages were marked by a subdued San Mamés crowd, a clear acknowledgement that the game was out of reach.

The Last Last singer said that he had an emotional connection to the story after hearing about it on The Breakfast Club radio show.

He then connected with music executive Wack 100; and Hollywood Unlocked personality Jason Lee, and offered to help.

“When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke. After hearing the story on The Breakfast Club, I reached out to Wack 100 and connected with Jason Lee because no family should ever face this kind of pain alone,” he said in a press statement. “I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”

The statement also said the 34-year-old star was particularly moved by the story of Amari Peterson, a 14-year-old, 3.8 GPA student-athlete whose life was tragically cut short.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee noted in a statement that “Burna Boy’s generosity is an example of how people around the world want to help, even when they’ve never met the families impacted.”

CBN Scraps Deposit Limits, Increases Weekly Withdrawal Threshold

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced major changes to its cash-handling regulations, removing the cap on cash deposits and increasing the weekly withdrawal limit across all platforms to N500,000, up from the previous N100,000.

The policy shift was communicated through a circular issued to financial institutions and titled “Revised Cash-Related Policies”, endorsed by Dr. Rita Sike, Director of the Financial Policy & Regulation Department.

In the document, the apex bank explained that the overhaul aligns with efforts to curb the surging cost of managing physical cash, tackle security risks, and stem money-laundering vulnerabilities linked to Nigeria’s cash-driven economy.

The CBN noted that although earlier cash directives were created to push Nigerians toward electronic payment options, a review became necessary to align with current economic conditions.

With effect from January 1, 2026, the circular listed several major amendments. The cap on cumulative deposits has been abolished, and additional charges for surpassing former deposit limits have been eliminated.

The bank also announced a fresh cumulative withdrawal ceiling of N500,000 weekly for individuals and N5 million for corporate entities across all access points. Any amount above the stated limits will incur excess-withdrawal fees as outlined in the new guidelines.

The earlier monthly special approval which permitted individuals to draw N5 million and corporates N10 million once every month has now been scrapped.

For ATM usage, customers will still be restricted to N100,000 daily, with a total weekly limit of N500,000, which contributes to the overall weekly withdrawal total applicable to ATMs, POS machines, and other channels.

The CBN added that withdrawals exceeding the approved thresholds will attract charges of 3% for individuals and 5% for organisations, to be split 40% to the CBN and 60% to the servicing bank or financial institution.

Banks have also been instructed to ensure ATMs are stocked with all available currency denominations. Meanwhile, the ceiling on over-the-counter withdrawals using third-party cheques remains at N100,000, which will also count toward a customer’s weekly limit.

In addition, deposit money banks are mandated to submit monthly compliance reports to departments responsible for supervision, including Banking Supervision, Other Financial Institutions Supervision, and Payments System Supervision.

The circular clarified that the new rules will not apply to revenue-collecting accounts operated by federal, state, or local governments.

Accounts belonging to microfinance banks and primary mortgage banks domiciled with commercial or non-interest banks also remain exempt.

However, the previous privileges granted to embassies, diplomatic offices, and donor agencies have been withdrawn.
