I Won’t Stop Contesting Elections Until I Win – Tonto Dikeh

Nigerian actress cum politician, Tonto Dikeh has said that she would not stop contesting elections until she emerges winner.

Recall that the actress was the Rivers State deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2023 election.

She said her chances of governing the oil-rich state in the future were both high and slim because politics is dirty.

Dikeh stated these in an interview with journalists in Abuja during the GOTNI national leadership conference, organised by its National Leadership Centre with the theme, ‘Leadership for sustainability.’

She said, “One of the things I learnt (in contesting the election) is resilience and never giving up. I know after four years, they will forget about me and that, ‘she is not going to come back.’ But I am going to come back. Every four years, I am going to come back. I will come back and I will be in their faces. I will be coming back to the contest.

“My chances (of becoming governor) are high and slim because politics is dirty. It’s not going to be free and fair. (Nyesom) Wike’s candidate didn’t win free and fair. So I don’t expect politics to be free and fair, but I expect that, as someone said, having a lion’s heart requires taking the lion’s share.

“I won’t care what they think about my position, I will keep having the lion’s share, whether it is my personal life or politics, I am here to stay and they have no choice but to accept it.”

According to her, leadership is something that Nigerian youths need, especially now when they are all striving for a better Nigeria and a better life.

Dikeh said, “I said something; I said that the youths are restless. They are young, they are vibrant, and this is the time for them to do things. They cannot achieve those things if they do not fall under the platform of leadership.

“I contested for the position of Deputy Governor of Rivers State under the ADC and I saw how the older politicians perceived me like, ooh! This girl came to joke but I told them I didn’t come to joke.

“I made them understand that I came to fight. I might not have won but it will go down in history that I contested against Wike or Wike’s boy or the other big shots that I contested against.’

How I Was Slapped By A Naval Officer In US – President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given an insight into his life before his achievement in the political field.

He revealed that he once worked as a taxi driver in the United States and even experienced being slapped by a naval officer for unintentionally overcharging him.

The President’s experiences were published in a biography titled ‘Tinubu: My life as gypsy cab driver in the US’, written by seasoned journalist, Mike Awoyinfa and featured on the back page of a national daily.

According to the story, Tinubu worked as an unlicensed taxi driver in Chicago, picking passengers up from the airport and driving them to their destinations.

The President revealed that he took up this driving job as a means of financial support before he started school.

He narrated, “We got an unregistered used car commonly called Gypsy, which we ran as a taxi. We operated at the airport where we picked passengers, and not anywhere else, like the hotel because it was forbidden for unlicensed cab drivers to do so.

“We did that for a while to raise some money. Bolaji went to Tennessee, while I headed for Chicago.

“I was supposed to have started schooling in April. I deferred it till September in order to have more money. Immediately I got to Chicago, I went straight to Richard Daley College. It was very interesting.

“I was able to pay for my apartment and tuition fees at Chicago State University. I supplemented that by doing different menial jobs like door guard and security man.”

Speaking further about the incident, he said the naval officer he carried responded with a slap on his face because overcharged him, as his destination was a nearby.

“As a cab driver, one experience I will never forget was when I over-charged a naval officer who was returning to the country. It was not intentional,” Tinubu said.

“Apparently, I didn’t know the direction. There was no GPRS in those days to locate directions. So, he gave me the direction to his house in a Virginia suburb.

“I gave him the price and the man responded with a slap to my face. He said I should know the correct price to charge to the location he mentioned. He slapped me and gave me the money.”

Nigeria’s number one man, President Bola Tinubu has talked about why he suspended Godwin Emefiele as the Central Bank Governor.

Tinubu says Emefiele was suspended because of how he messed up the financial system of the country.

The president had on June 9, suspended Emefiele to allow for investigation into some allegations levelled against him concerning his activities as the CBN governor.

President Tinubu who broke silence on the arrest and detention of Emefiele on Friday, during an interactive session with Nigerians residing in France and neighbouring countries, said the financial system was rotten under Emefiele.

He said “Then the financial system was rotten. Few people made bags of money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows. But that is gone now. It’s gone.

“The man is in the hands of the authorities. Something is being done about that. They will sort themselves out.”

SaharaReporters had also reported that the suspended Central Bank Gov., Emefiele was arrested by the Nigeria’s secret Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged economic crimes, sabotage, incitement to violence, stealing of public funds among others.

The DSS in an affidavit of facts presented in court while seeking an order of court to detained Emefiele had listed these reasons for arresting him.

It said Emefiele was arrested “upon reasonable suspicion of committing acts which constitute a criminal breach of trust, incitement to violence, criminal misappropriation of public funds, economic sabotage, economic crimes of national security dimension and undermining the security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the DSS and the Office of Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF) on Tuesday asked the Federal Capital Territory High Court not to grant bail to the suspended governor of the apex bank.

They argued that the suspended governor of the apex bank would flee the country if granted bail.

The DSS and the OAGF described Emefiele who is challenging his detention by the secret police as a “flight risk.”
