Benin Traditional Council Lied – Queen Of Benin Kingdom Backs Peller Over ‘Unauthorized’ Visit

Queen Ewaure of the Benin Kingdom has spoken out for the first time since her suspension over the traditional council’s allegations of an unauthorised visit by Nigerian TikToker Peller.

Recall that the Benin council had criticised Peller’s visit, describing it as unauthorised and a breach of palace protocol.

The council also summoned Peller to appear before a committee of chiefs and warned that the Queen, who received Peller on behalf of the palace, could face removal from the palace.

However, Peller’s management in a statement shared via Instagram on Thursday clarified that the visit was properly initiated through official channels and was never intended to disrespect Benin culture.

According to the statement, Peller’s team, ahead of the visit, submitted a formal request to the palace, which was acknowledged, but was told that the Oba of Benin would not be available during the visit.

Similarly, in an Instagram post, the Queen confirmed that Peller’s visit to the Palace was officially authorised.

The Queen also shared a letter bearing an acknowledgement stamp from the Benin Traditional Council, stating that the controversy goes beyond Peller’s visit and that other issues happening behind closed doors are far bigger than what the public currently knows.

She wrote, “Hello everyone, the issues at hand isn’t just because peller came to the palace’s or me gifting him, a lot has been happening behind close doors, the Benin traditional council lied that peller coming to the palace was unauthorized and I brought him to the palace, but I hope I will be able to convince you all that Peller coming to the palace was authorized, look at the stamp on this letter shows that it was approved by Benin traditional council, but they’re all lying on my head, but what I want you to know is that this isn’t the main problem because there are other issues way bigger than what you all thinks.”

Blackout Worsens In Nigeria As GenCos Shutdown Gas Plants Over Debt

Nigeria’s power crisis has deepened as generation companies (GenCos) halt operations due to an escalating debt burden estimated at about ₦6.8 trillion.

According to a report by Bloomberg, 16 of Nigeria’s 33 power plants were not supplying electricity as of Tuesday, citing data from the Nigeria Independent System Operator, NISO.

The affected plants are impacted by their inability to maintain equipment, secure gas supplies, and meet basic operational expenses.

The liquidity generation sub-sector further mirrors the challenges in the sector across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, according to Joy Ogaji, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Power Generation Companies, APGC.

She stressed that adequate financial generation sub-value for the country will no longer be able to provide services to Nigerians.

“We cannot maintain the machines,” Ogaji said, adding that without adequate funding, equipment cannot be serviced, underscoring the severity of the cash flow crisis confronting the sector.

“Money for hand, light for house, gas for pipe. This is more than an industry issue. It is an economic imperative.

“Reliable power is the backbone of industrialization, job creation, and national development. The time to act is now,” she said.

It was earlier reported that GenCos and gas suppliers had threatened to halt supply over debt amounting to N3.3 trillion.

Mohbad: Late Singer’s Family Lawyer Questions Labs’ Capacity For DNA Testing

The legal team representing the family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed concerns about the capabilities of certain laboratories chosen for the ongoing paternity test involving his son, Liam.

According to Punch Metro, this was gathered on Tuesday from a statement signed by the family’s counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, on behalf of the applicant, Joseph Aloba.

Ogungbe disclosed that a court, on February 24, 2026, directed that the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test be conducted in three laboratories jointly agreed upon by the parties and the court to ensure transparency and credibility.

The laboratories listed include DNA Diagnostics Centre, Fairfield, Ohio, United States, nominated by the applicant; Alpha Biolabs, Warrington, United Kingdom, nominated by the respondent; and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, London, United Kingdom, selected by the court through the Social Welfare Officer.

According to the lawyer, preliminary inquiries were made by the applicant’s representatives to verify the technical competence of the laboratories before sample collection commenced.

He, however, said responses from two of the laboratories raised concerns about their ability to conduct the required analysis.

“Prior to the commencement of sample collection, representatives of the applicant made inquiries to ascertain whether the listed laboratories possessed the technical capacity to conduct post-mortem DNA analysis involving tissue extraction from embalmed remains,” the statement read.

“The responses received from Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited indicated that they do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies,” it added.

Ogungbe said the development had been formally brought to the attention of the court through an affidavit.

“In light of these responses, the applicant deemed it necessary to notify the Honourable Court by filing an affidavit of facts,” he stated.

The counsel also dismissed claims that his client deliberately selected unqualified laboratories, noting that only one of the facilities was nominated by the applicant.

“It is incorrect and misleading to suggest that Mr Joseph Aloba deliberately selected laboratories lacking the competence to conduct tissue-based DNA testing.

“He remains committed to due process and to a DNA testing procedure that is transparent, scientifically credible, and in strict compliance with the court’s directive,” the statement added.

A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu had earlier ordered DNA tests to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the only child of the late singer.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the order while ruling on an application filed by Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to establish whether the child is his late son’s biological offspring.

Mohbad, a fast-rising Afrobeats artiste, died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, triggering nationwide outrage and multiple legal disputes over his estate, royalties, and paternity.

His son, Liam, was born in April 2023, months before his death. The paternity dispute has since attracted widespread public attention.

Senegal Reject CAF’s Decision To Declare Morocco AFCON 2025 Winners

The Senegalese Football Federation has rejected a contentious ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board that awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco, announcing plans to escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Morocco were on Tuesday declared champions after CAF overturned the result of the final against Senegal, ruling that the West African side forfeited the match following a walk-off during the game in Rabat on January 19.

CAF stated that “the Senegal national team is declared to have forfeited the final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, with the result recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.”

The decision followed a protest by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football after chaotic scenes late in the final, when Senegal players briefly left the pitch after a disallowed goal and a penalty awarded to the hosts. The appeal board ruled the incident fell under Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations on misconduct and forfeiture.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 18, the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) said it had taken note of the decision delivered by CAF’s Appeal Committee in case DC23316, which followed a complaint filed during match 52 of the final.

“The Senegalese Football Federation has today taken note of the notification of the decision rendered on March 17, 2026, by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football, in the context of case DC23316,” the statement read.

The federation said the appeal board declared admissible the protest lodged by the Moroccan federation and overturned the earlier decision of the CAF Disciplinary Board, citing a procedural flaw in the initial hearing.

“With this decision, the CAF Appeals Board declared the appeal of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation admissible and accepted it,” the FSF said.

“In doing so, the board overturned the decision rendered by the CAF Disciplinary Board, because the appellant’s right to be heard had not been respected during the initial proceedings,” the FSF said.

According to the statement, the appeal committee ruled that the conduct of the Senegal national team fell under Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, leading to the forfeiture decision.

“The Appeals Committee also determined that the conduct of the Senegalese team fell under Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations,” the federation stated.

“Consequently, CAF declared that the FSF had violated Article 82 and awarded the match by forfeit, with a recorded score of 3-0 in favour of the FRMF, in accordance with Article 84.”

Reacting to the verdict, the Senegalese federation criticised the decision, describing it as damaging to the credibility of African football.

“The Senegalese Football Federation denounces an unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable decision that discredits African football,” the statement added.

The federation confirmed that it would file an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will initiate, as soon as possible, an appeal procedure before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” the statement said.

The FSF added that it remained committed to due process and would continue to inform the public as the case progresses.

“The FSF reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice, and will keep the public informed of the follow-up to this matter,” the statement concluded.

AFCON 2025: ‘Daylight Robbery’ – Shehu Sani Slams CAF For Declaring Morocco Winner

Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for stripping Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

CAF announced on Tuesday evening that Morocco is now the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal had forfeited the AFCON final when they walked off the field during the final game.

For this reason, Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.

This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.

Morocco had remained on the pitch after the centre referee awarded them a controversial penalty while Senegalese players, propelled by their coach, protested by walking off the pitch.

Only Sadio Mane, the team’s captain, remained on the field of play and later persuaded others to come back and continue the match.

Morocco missed the penalty as Senegal went on to win the game by a lone goal.

Angered by CAF’s decision, Sani wrote on X, “Senegal won the AFCON on the pitch but was snatched by CAF in the Boardroom; that’s unconscionable and a dangerous precedent in African football.

“The fact that the Senegalese team walked out in protest and returned to play till the final whistle doesn’t warrant this afterthought daylight robbery. They just want to reward Morocco for hosting and losing.”

CAF Declares Morocco Winners Of AFCON 2025, Strips Senegal Of Title

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared Morocco the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The CAF Appeal Board ruled in favour of Morocco, declaring that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final by walking off the field during the game.

Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.

This decision upholds Morocco’s appeal following the chaotic events in the match.

Recall that the Senegal team briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.

They were called back to the field by their captain, Sadio Mané, and later won the game 1–0.

CAF determined that this action constituted a violation of Article 84, or the equivalent regulations concerning refusal to play or abandoning the field.

Under AFCON rules, a team that refuses to continue playing or leaves the field without authorization faces elimination and forfeiture of the match.
