Dangote Group Abandoned Student Crushed by Company’s Truck for 11 Months — VeryDarkMan

A popular social media activist and commentator, Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan has called out Dangote Group.
He alleged that Dangote group abandoned a 22-year-old lady in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State, after she was crushed by the company’s truck driver.
VeryDarkman stated this in a post on Instagram while sharing a video of the hospitalised victim at the hospital on Monday.
According to him, the victim, whose name was not disclosed, has been at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital with hospital bills of over N5 million.
He noted that he joined the protest against the movement of Dangote’s truck in Auchi.
The activist demanded that all victims of Dangote’s truck should be taken care of by the firm’s management.
“On reaching the Irrua specialist teaching hospital in Auchi, Edo State, we met an abandoned victim of Dangote’s reckless unlicensed driver, a 22-year-old girl, whom was going for her project and was crushed. She has been in the hospital for 11 months with bills of over 5 million naira; Dangote has abandoned her.

“Let the world know that we will not be allowing any Dangote trucks today in Auchi if all victims of Dangote’s unlicensed truck drivers are not properly taken care of @dangotegroup. @aliko_dangotegcon, We can’t fight you; you are the richest man in Africa, and you command security agencies. We are only telling you to take responsibility,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Dangote Group is yet to respond to the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
This comes days after Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna Otabor called out Dangote Group after her sister, Ruth, was crushed by the company’s truck in the same Auchi area of Edo State.
But Dangote Group, three days ago in a statement, pledged to take care of all medical bills of Ruth Otabor.
The accidents involving Dangote Group’s trucks is coming at the time its refinery plans to deploy 4,000 brand-new compressed natural gas trucks for direct fuel distribution nationwide.
However, the scheme initially planned to begin on 15th August has yet to kick off.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has said that truck numbering is the reason Dangote Refinery failed to commence its fuel and diesel distribution scheme on Friday, August 15, 2025.
The report confirmed that Dangote Refinery had taken delivery of a number of shipments of the trucks.

Why I Transitioned From Music to Nollywood – JJC Skillz

Popular filmmaker and former musician JJC Skillz has revealed the reason why he transitioned from the music industry to Nollywood.
JJC Skillz spoke in an interview on Channels TV.
According to him, he considered that he wasn’t getting any younger and decided to transition to Nollywood.
Speaking further, he said that despite his success in the UK music scene with groups like Big Brovaz and JJC & the 419 Squad, he had to start anew in Nigeria and face gatekeeping in the film industry.
“As far back as I can remember, I have been shooting music videos for years. Even my ‘We Are Africans’ video, I shot that myself.

“But after doing African Gang in 2011, I realised I was getting too old for the young scene, so I knew it was time to evolve. I packed my bags and moved into Nollywood. I was very passionate about telling stories.

“I wouldn’t say normal life when you’re starting again. I was a JJC (newbie). I didn’t grow up with most of the filmmakers in Nigeria, so it was like, ‘You want to enter our space?’ Some doors were closed. There are gatekeepers at all levels”, he said.
JJC stated that notable individuals, such as actor Deyemi Okanlawon and filmmaker Funke Akindele, supported his journey and believed in his talent.
However, he laments the challenges of cinema ticketing in Nigeria, where filmmakers struggle to receive a fair revenue share.
He stated that the situation is dire, with cinemas taking a significant percentage of ticket sales and taxes further reducing filmmakers’ earnings.

“It’s a situation of monkey dey work, baboon dey chop. We put in a lot of work. Sometimes, the cinemas take 70 per cent, other times 60 per cent, and after paying 22 per cent tax, we’re left with nothing. We have to make the film and also sell it because distribution companies aren’t out there selling. We are stuck in a horrible place,” he said.
The exit of streaming platforms from Nigeria has also left filmmakers uncertain about recouping their investments.
“The hope for a better day was with streaming companies, but they’ve left. So now we’re back to asking, ‘if we put our money into it, will we get it back?’ At the end of the day, it’s a business, and creativity is getting killed”, he added.
JJC Skillz emphasises the need for filmmakers to give audiences value for money and notes that the harsh business environment is stifling creativity.

“Nigerian filmmakers need to improve to give the people value. I’ve even had to market my film with a promise of refunds if viewers weren’t satisfied”, he said.
JJC Skillz has achieved success in Nollywood, directing notable projects like Industreet, Jenifa’s Diary, and Omo Ghetto: The Saga.
His latest film, Hakeem: Seeking Justice, features impressive action sequences and showcases his growth as a filmmaker.

Boko Haram founder’s son arrested with five insurgents in Chad

A young son of Boko Haram’s late founder, Mohammed Yusuf, has reportedly been arrested in Chad, where he was allegedly leading a jihadist cell, according to AFP citing security and intelligence sources.

The suspect, identified as Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, was taken into custody alongside five other alleged insurgents. Though Chadian police confirmed the arrest of six Boko Haram members, they did not immediately verify whether one of them was the son of the radical preacher.

Boko Haram, founded by Mohammed Yusuf in northeastern Nigeria before his death in 2009, has terrorised the Lake Chad region for over 15 years, staging deadly raids on villages and military installations.

An intelligence source in the Lake Chad area told AFP that the detained cell reportedly belonged to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a Boko Haram offshoot that emerged following ideological divisions within the group.

“The team was headed by Muslim, the youngest son of the late Boko Haram founder,” the source disclosed, noting that Yusuf, now 18, was still an infant when his father was killed in a 2009 military crackdown that left about 800 people dead.

Photos obtained after the arrests showed a slender young man in a blue tracksuit, closely resembling Yusuf, standing alongside older suspects.

Yusuf, who reportedly uses the alias Abdrahman Mahamat Abdoulaye, is also the younger brother of ISWAP’s leader, Habib Yusuf, also known as Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi.

A former lieutenant of Mohammed Yusuf, who has since denounced Boko Haram, corroborated the arrest, saying: “He and the team were arrested by Chadian security. They are six in number.”

Chadian police spokesman Paul Manga described the detainees asbandits who operate in the city… they are undocumented, they are members of Boko Haram.” He confirmed the arrests happened “a few months ago.”

“A single mother cannot raise a man” – Jim Iyke

Veteran Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke explains why he believes that a single mother cannot raise a male child into a man.

He stated this during a recent interview with Okay 101.7 FM, Accra, Ghana.

According to him, a woman isn’t built with the necessities to raise a boy into a man.

He said …

“A woman can’t raise a man. You can’t, you’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly. You need a male influence – go get your brother that’s doing well or your father or even any man that you trust. There has to be a male presence in it [raising a boy child].

“Because women are naturally built to nurture, to love. And then what you’re going to raise is a very weak man? He is going to be everything like the men that left you. You need somebody that would discipline him, tell him ‘No’ as often times as possible, and put him in the grind”

2025 DNA report shows 25% of Nigerian men not biological fathers

A new report from Smart DNA, Nigeria’s leading DNA testing centre, has revealed that one in every four Nigerian men who undergo paternity testing is not the biological father of the child in question.

The findings are contained in the company’s 2025 Annual DNA Testing Report, which covers July 2024 to June 2025. While the figure marks a slight drop from 27% in 2024 to 25% in 2025, experts say the persistently high rate of paternity exclusion shows a growing but largely unspoken social crisis in Nigeria.

“These findings are not just about science; they speak volumes about trust, relationships, and the economic and emotional realities of Nigerian families today,” said Elizabeth Digia, Operations Manager at Smart DNA Nigeria.

Analysts suggest that these patterns may be linked to early romantic relationships, pre-marital pregnancies, or social strategies around partner selection. The trend also raises sensitive questions about how paternity is initially assumed and socially accepted in Nigeria, particularly in a culture where male lineage is strongly tied to legacy, inheritance, and the continuity of family names.

Man discovers brand new iPhone bought in Lagos flagged as stolen in UK

A Nigerian living in the United Kingdom, Gbenga Wemimo, has shared a shocking experience after discovering that a brand-new iPhone his wife purchased in Nigeria turned out to be a reported stolen device in the UK.

Taking to the social media platform X, Wemimo revealed that he had bought the iPhone last September for his wife at an Apple-authorised store located in Jakande, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

According to him, the decision to purchase the device in Nigeria rather than abroad was his way of supporting local businesses.

How we almost landed in trouble over ‘stolen iPhone’

“My wife bought a brand new iPhone at the Apple store located at Jakande, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos last September. We decided to trade it in for a new one today at the Apple Store located at Westfield Stratford City Arcade (London) a few minutes ago Only God did not let them call the police on us.

The attendant scanned the IPhone and declared that it had been reported as stolen. Stolen from where? It was not a used iPhone It was new, purchased from an approved Apple Store and we have all the receipts intact.

The attendant saw our indignation and went ahead to consult with her superiors. They scanned again and they declared that it was reported “missing”. They adjusted their language from stolen to missing and told us it has zero swap value.

I was not shocked at all even though I should be. Nigerians like cutting corners for unhealthy gains and they always believe this is good business for them as long as they were able to make a buck. Somehow we were able to walk out of that Apple Store without any drama but I remember telling my wife that we would have had a lot of explaining to do if they had a policy that required that they must report such incidents to the police.

Nigerian business people must try to do better than this There is something called integrity, it has a higher value than the dirty gains they think they are getting by playing dirty. I have always insisted on buying things in Nigeria because it helps the economy but I can see the reason many prefer to shop abroad. We must do better than this as a people. -GSW-“

Nobody wants to marry me because I am a single mother of two – Kaffy

Prominent Nigerian dancer, Kaffy laments the challenges she faces in her personal life following her divorce.

Speaking candidly during a recent discussion, the 45-year-old entertainer disclosed that many men shy away from marrying her because she is a single mother of two.

She criticized the societal stigma attached to divorced women, questioning why people assume a woman with children is less desirable, even though statistics show that many marriages end in separation.

Kaffy further argued that divorced individuals who have worked on themselves may, in fact, be better partners than unmarried people.

She highlighted that over 70% of marriages eventually fail, stressing that real love should bring peace and security rather than anxiety.

Her words …

“I’ve had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother, I can’t even think about dating me because I have two children.

99% of the people that criticize me about my marriage are either not married today or have left their marriages. What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate If she has worked on herself, what is the guarantee that the two single people today are not both going to be divorced people tomorrow?

Because why are people feeling like, I need to marry him fresh and I need to marry her fresh. But both of you are going into the same data that the world has computed for you. There are over 70% of marriages crashed. You are part of the 70%. There’s just so many stuff. Do you know that a lot of butterfly in the tummy is a trauma response? Real love brings peace, not butterflies. Real love is not supposed to make you anxious. You shouldn’t be with… I can imagine Daddy Freeze now, as he’s here now, and he’s thinking about what taste buds is doing in the house. He’s at peace. I’m still healing from those anxious feelings because of the moment I feel like I killed this I’m like, why would you do this to me? I’m 45, but I’ve spent the last 10 years of my adult life trying to fix it. My children were looking at us and I’m like, go. If you have to leave. Oh, really? Oh, yeah. You think I’m irresponsible?

I know how responsible I am as a woman. I don’t sleep around. I don’t do casual stuff. I heard even the, after I used him, his youth, after I used him to collect children, my IVF champion, because I don’t understand…”
