Why I Almost Quit Music – Nigerian Singer, Lojay Opens Up

Lekan Osifeso, the famous Nigerian singer, who is popularly known as Lojay, has shared insights into his early challenges in the music industry and times of self-doubt.

The ‘Monalisa’ hitmaker, in an interview with Punch, stated that he once considered quitting music altogether.

He said, “I’ve had moments where I almost quit music. There were nights I doubted if anyone would ever hear my songs. But those silent years shaped me; they taught me patience, resilience, and gratitude for every single listener today.”

Speaking on managing the pressures and expectations that come with fame, Lojay said he often retreats from the spotlight to reconnect with what matters most.

He stated, “Family, faith, and silence. Sometimes I just disappear for a bit no music, no social media. Just time to breathe and reconnect with God and my people. That’s how I remember who I am outside the noise.”

Reflecting on his breakthrough song Monalisa and its remix with Chris Brown, Lojay noted that the collaboration taught him valuable lessons about music’s universality.

He stressed, “It showed me that music really doesn’t have boundaries. Chris came in with full respect for the record he understood it, felt it, and elevated it. It made me realize that authenticity travels further than trying to sound ‘international.”

Speaking on why it took him a while to release his debut album XOXO, the singer explained that he wanted to take his time to create something meaningful.

He added, “I didn’t want to drop an album just to say I did. I wanted to live first to experience enough emotions that could fill an album with truth. Every song on XOXO came from a real place, and I needed time to find that honesty.”

EFCC Begins Investigation On Oladips’ Extortion Allegation Against Operatives

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it has launched an investigation into allegations by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, claiming that some of its operatives attempted to extort ₦10 million from him.

It added that the accused officers have been suspended of their operational duties pending the conclusion of investigation.

EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday said the commission was alarmed by such allegation and would ensure that truth was unravelled.

Recall that Oladips had accused some operatives of the Commission of extorting the sum of Ten Million Naira from him before securing his release when he was arrested alongside other suspected internet fraudsters.

Reacting, the EFCC Spokesperson insisted that the picture painted by Oladips was not a true reflection of the anti-graft agency.

“We have seen his claims and have commenced investigations on them accordingly. It is also needful to state that if the allegation is found to be false and raised to malign the Commission or tarnish its image, appropriate sanctions will also be imposed.”
He added.

He, therefore, urged the public to await the outcome of the investigations and continue to keep faith with the commission.

What Inspires Artist Signing Under Mavin Record Label – Don Jazzy Reveals

Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has revealed that in talent scouting, he prioritizes an artist’s character and vision over sheer musical ability, describing it as investing in the “vessel” behind the music.

In an interview with RollingStone Africa, the producer emphasised evaluating personality, hunger, and cultural fit before signing anyone to the label.

He explained that while predicting breakout success is impossible, instinct often signals genuine drive.

Artists, he added, frequently underestimate their own potential until growth unfolds over time.

“Beyond the music, I focus on the vessel, the person. I look at their personality, their hunger, their vision. At Mavin, we also pay attention to how well they’ll fit into our culture.

“You can’t always predict who will blow up, but sometimes you can feel when someone truly wants it. Many don’t realize how big their dreams can get until time unfolds,” he said.

Don Jazzy stressed alignment with Mavin’s collaborative ethos, noting that every addition to the roster is vetted for long-term compatibility.

The strategy has fueled the label’s track record, launching global acts like Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Rema, and Ayra Starr.

BREAKING: Court Bars INEC From Recognizing Outcome Of PDP National Convention

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an order preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from acknowledging or acting on the outcome of the upcoming 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Friday while delivering judgment in a suit challenging the legality of the convention.

The judge predicated the decision on the grounds that the PDP failed to comply with relevant conditions and laws for the conduct of such conventions.

The judge held that evidence provided by the electoral umpire and some of the respondents showed that congresses were not held in some states of the federation in breach of the law.

In addition, the court held that the signing of notices and correspondence of the PDP by its National Chairman without the National Secretary violated the law and consequently made such notices and correspondences a nullity.

Besides, Justice Omotosho held that the PDP failed to issue the mandatory 21 days notice of meetings and congresses to enable INEC carry out its mandatory duty of monitoring such meetings and congresses.

Justice Omotosho held that the failure of the PDP to comply with the law has put the planned convention in jeopardy, and subsequently advised the PDP to do the necessary before going ahead with the election.

He therefore restrained INEC from receiving, publishing or recognizing the outcome of the convention slated for Ibadan, until the law has been complied with.
