ASUU Issues Four-Day Ultimatum To FG Over New Lecturer Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has cautioned the Federal Government to commence payment of lecturers under the newly approved salary structure without delay or face the possibility of a nationwide strike.

The union issued a four-day deadline on Thursday. ASUU President Christopher Piwuna said that if no action is taken within that period, the union will take serious measures that could shut down public universities across the country.

Speaking at Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State, Piwuna stated that the government must commence payment of the new salaries immediately.

“We have issued a four-day ultimatum from today to the federal government to begin the payment of the newly approved salary structure.

“Failure to comply will attract a strong response from the union,” he said.

He emphasised that the union expects prompt action, warning that non-compliance will provoke a decisive response.

This warning comes a few months after ASUU and the federal government reached a new agreement in January.

The deal was intended to resolve long-standing issues and end the repeated strikes that have affected Nigeria’s university system for years.

A key element of the agreement is a new salary structure designed to improve lecturers’ welfare and address problems linked to the 2009 agreement between ASUU and the government, which was never fully implemented.

Tonto Dikeh Wants To K!ll Me – Actress Doris Ogala Cries Out, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Spiritual Plot

Doris Ogala, the popular Nollywood actress, has accused her colleague Tonto Dikeh of attempting to harm her through spiritual means.

The issue came to light on Wednesday, after Doris took to social media to share a series of emotional messages about her experience.

She claimed that her only intention was to ask Tonto to help speak to a man identified as Chris about refunding money owed to her, and not to get involved in any personal relationship matters.

Doris said she was shocked by what followed, as she alleged that Tonto instead took steps that could put her in danger.

She claimed that Tonto reported her to a traditional herbalist, an action she believes was meant to harm her spiritually.

As part of her claims, Doris released an audio clip which she said was Tonto’s voice.

In the recording, she alleged that Tonto spoke about contacting a woman she described as a spiritualist in relation to her.

The actress expressed pain over the situation, recalling how she stood by Tonto during her past issues with her former partner, Prince Kpokpogri.

She said she supported her when many others stayed away, making the current situation even more difficult for her to understand.

Doris also warned people to be careful and pay attention to what is happening, stating that the matter should not be taken lightly. She maintained that the situation has left her feeling betrayed.

She said: “Tonto is reporting to k!ll me… why… why are you reporting me to your mamalawo. Guys, you will be shocked at how evil this girl’s heart is.

“Should I keep quiet after seeing this… Ahhh everyone should check oo. This is a bastard I help during her disgraceful ordeal with Kpokpogiri. Make una dey hear oo. Every other person left this girl. I stood by her kai. Why.”

Why Davido Should Have Distributed N200m Birthday Donation To Music Legends – Singer Konga Speaks (Video)

Veteran singer Konga has expressed his disappointment over what he describes as the lack of support from the current generation of Nigerian artists toward industry legends.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, the Kabakaba crooner said Davido should have supported Nigerian music legends with the N200 million birthday donations he received from his friends and fans in 2021.

Recall that Davido added N50 million of his own money, bringing the total to N250 million, which he donated to 292 orphanages across Nigeria.

However, Konga argued that it would have been better if he had used the funds to support struggling music legends, stressing that the funds could have rejuvenated their careers.

He said, “The present crops of Nigerian artists need to humble themselves. Nobody is dragging their money with them. But they have used peer pressure to chase a lot of Nigerian music legends into doing menial jobs abroad.

“If I were part of Davido’s management, one time his friends contributed money to him, I would have said – ‘Davido, carry this money, go and give it to all these legends… bring Baba Fryo back, bring Daddy Showkey. Give Daddy Showkey, Baba Fryo and others N5 million each.’

“If he had done that, the industry would have waken up. Our legends would have dropped a lot of comeback hits. Our music legends are running away due to lack of support. Look at Lord of Ajasa, is that a joke to you? And someone like Olamide will come out to say Wizkid is the greatest Nigerian artist internationally. Where is that coming from? We have been doing international shows for ages.

“You guys are only taking it forward from where we stopped. Fela, King Sunny Ade, Majek Fashek and others have been touring the world for years. Just because our achievements were not documented back then does not mean we did not do anything.”

Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has lowered its petrol prices, setting the gantry price at N1,200 per litre and the coastal price at N1,153 per litre.

The company disclosed this in a statement by its spokesperson Anthony Chijiena on Thursday.

The 650,000 per day refinery dropped its petrol by N85 to N1,200 per liter from N1,285 per liter.

The latest fuel price drop comes after at least five petrol price hikes carried out by the Dangote Refinery since March 2026 amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The adjustment marks a downward review in the refinery’s pricing structure and is expected to influence fuel supply costs across distribution channels, including depots and retail outlets.
