Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola has revealed a personal connection with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, recalling how they shared a bunk bed during their boarding school days 49 years ago.
Otedola disclosed this on Monday, October 19, 2026, after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.
The businessman praised Hamzat’s character, describing him as a man of integrity whose honesty and fairness he had experienced over several decades.
Otedola speaks about longstanding relationship with Hamzat
In a post on his X account, Otedola reflected on their longstanding relationship and expressed confidence in Hamzat’s personal qualities.
He wrote, “Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago.”
Otedola added that his experience of Hamzat over the years had been defined by “honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles”.
The dinner was attended by other prominent Nigerian businessmen, including Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu.
Hamzat’s political ambition draws attention
Hamzat, who has served as Lagos deputy governor since 2019, emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate in May after winning the party’s primary ahead of the 2027 election.
He is seeking to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose second term ends in 2027.
Otedola’s description of Hamzat as the incoming governor reflects his confidence in his longtime acquaintance, although the Lagos governorship election has yet to take place.
The post offers a glimpse into the personal relationships behind Nigeria’s political and business circles as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
