Tyson Fury Announces Return To Boxing 12 Months After Fifth Retirement

Tyson Fury has announced his return to professional boxing in 2026, a year after stepping away from the sport for the fifth time.

The former heavyweight champion announced his decision on Instagram, ending months of speculation after sharing training clips over the festive period.

“2026 is that year. Return of the mac,”
Fury wrote. “Been away for a while but im back now, 37 years old and still punching.

“Nothing better to do than punch men in the face & get paid for it.”

Fury retired in January 2025, a month after suffering his second consecutive points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, who beat him twice in 2024 in Saudi Arabia and Riyadh as the Brit failed in his bid to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.

Despite those losses, Fury boasts a 34-2-1 record and is a two-time world champion, having defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and Deontay Wilder in 2020.

The 37-year-old has a long history of retirements and comebacks, having previously stepped away from boxing in 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2022, each time returning to the ring months later.

A potential third fight with Usyk would still draw huge interest, while a long-awaited all-British clash with Anthony Joshua had been targeted for 2026. That bout is now uncertain following a recent car crash involving Joshua that killed two close members of his team.

Speaking on the situation, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said Joshua’s future in the sport was unclear.

“This is an awful time for everyone involved,”
Warren said. “I don’t even know if he will ever have the appetite to fight again or if he will ever fight again, that is something that only time will tell.”

Fury also sent his condolences to Joshua after the crash, writing on social media: “This is so sad. May God give them a good bed in heaven.”

With his latest announcement, Fury now appears set on another comeback, aiming to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

Anthony Joshua’s £100m Fight With Tyson Fury In Jeopardy After Car Accident In Nigeria

The injuries sustained by British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua in Monday’s car crash may be more severe than initially reported.

Joshua was pulled out alive from a wrecked SUV vehicle along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

However, two of his close friends he was travelling with, have died following the crash.

For Joshua, this accident has now left his £100m mega-fight with Tyson Fury next year in the balance.

According to the Daily Mail, the former heavyweight champion might have suffered damage more serious than publicly declared.

There is a real possibility that the 36-year-old has suffered knee and rib injuries.

Some of the videos circulating on social media, show Joshua in pain as people carried him out from the mangled vehicle.

Ex-Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua Insists Tyson Fury Fight Now ‘More Possible Than Ever’

Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, says a long-anticipated clash with Tyson Fury is finally within sight, asserting that the British heavyweight showdown “is now more possible than ever.”

In a chat with Marca, the former unified world champion said Fury has finally run out of excuses and must face him next.

“I think it’s very possible. I think it’s more possible now than ever. He has no options anymore. He has to fight me,”
Anthony Joshua said.

His comments come weeks after Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, revealed that the former WBC champion was more interested in a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk than in the all-British clash fans have been waiting for.

“The fight he really wants is another go with Mr Usyk; he really wants that,”
Warren told Sky Sports in October.

Fury, who briefly announced his fifth retirement earlier this year, has endured back-to-back losses to Usyk, both on points. Those defeats remain the only blemishes on his professional record.

The rivalry between Joshua and Fury has been simmering for years. Talks for a fight have collapsed more than once, leaving fans frustrated as both men took different paths in their careers.

Joshua, 35, appears eager to seize his last chance to reclaim the heavyweight division’s top spot. He has spoken about wanting to match Muhammad Ali’s record by becoming a three-time world champion, and he sees Fury as the key to that dream.

Time is running out for both fighters, and Joshua seems convinced the moment has finally arrived.

“I’ve always said, it’s not a matter of if, but when,” he added, hinting that one of boxing’s biggest rivalries might finally get the ending fans have been waiting for.
