EPL: Nkunku fires Chelsea to vital three points after Sancho’s assist

Chelsea returned to winning ways in a thrilling Saturday night encounter against Bournemouth, courtesy of a late strike from Christopher Nkunku.

The super substitute was assisted by debutant Jadon Sancho, who impressed on his first outing for the Blues.

He made a fine effort to find Nkunku, who had to wriggle past a couple players before firing the Blues to all three points.

The win sees Chelsea move from 13th to 7th in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, the result was Bournemouth’s first defeat of the campaign

With his first career Europa League goal, Cristiano Ronaldo broke his goalless streak and helped Manchester United defeat Sheriff Tiraspol.

Real Sociedad defeated Erik ten Hag’s team at Old Trafford in their Group E opening, but they bounced back by winning all three points in Moldova.

Jadon Sancho calmly completed a superb team move from Christian Eriksen’s reverse pass to give the Red Devils the lead early in the game.

Sancho, who had been left out of the England team earlier in the day, nearly scored a second goal, but Sheriff captain Stjepan Radeljic expertly blocked his low shot off the line.

However, United did double their lead before halftime thanks to Ronaldo’s penalty, which was given when Patrick Kpozo tripped Diogo Dalot in the penalty area.

Ronaldo missed a chance to make it 700 club goals when he side-footed over from the edge of the area, and Sheriff was unable to force David de Gea into any significant saves at the other end.

In the other match in the group, Real Sociedad defeated Neil Lennon’s Omonia Nicosia 2-1 to make it two wins in a row.

Leicester is defeated 1-0 by Manchester United.

Jadon Sancho

Manchester United defeated Leicester City 1 – 0 in the Premier League on Thursday.

Man United make it three wins in a row as Jadon Sancho’s early strike seals a 1-0 win and moves Erik ten Hag’s team up to fifth in the table, while Brendan Rodgers’ side remains at the bottom.

Sancho had shown great poise in rounding Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward. After 23 minutes, Jadon Sancho’s smooth finish from Marcus Rashford’s pass maintained United’s recent revival and allowed them to build on victories over Liverpool and Southampton. United remained largely in control against an out-of-sorts Leicester, who are still looking for their first league win of the season and who, along with manager Brendan Rodgers, sensed the home fans’ impatience.

After the first-half break, Leicester seemed to need to respond, and James Maddison came close. However, United made late changes to close the game out, bringing in Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo.
