Insecurity: President Tinubu Suspends Trip To G20, AU-EU Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, pending further security briefings on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.

This was contained in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement said Tinubu has ordered the deployment of more security operatives to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, and directed the police to go after the bandits who attacked worshippers.

President Tinubu was scheduled to leave Abuja on Wednesday to attend the 20th G20 Summit of leaders in South Africa and thereafter proceed to Luanda to attend the 7th AU-EU Summit.

“Disturbed by the security breaches in Kebbi State and Monday’s attack by bandits against worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, President Tinubu decided to suspend his departure.

“He now awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who paid a sympathetic visit to Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services regarding the attack in Kwara,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the President reiterated his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home safe.

President Tinubu Sends Shettima To Kebbi Over Schoolgirls’ Abduction

President Bola Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to convey the government’s sympathy to the state authorities.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president assured parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the government would ensure their swift release.

He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for the efforts made to avert the kidnapping and lamented the security breach that led to the regrettable abduction of girls from the boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State.

“I urge you in areas facing security challenges, to share information and intelligence that will help the military, the police and the DSS to make the communities safe,” he said.

Tinubu expressed sadness over the abduction of the schoolgirls, despite intelligence warnings of a possible strike by the bandits.

NFF Apologises To Tinubu, Nigerians Over Super Eagles’ World Cup Miss

The Nigeria Football Federation has extended a heartfelt apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and millions of Nigerians—especially devoted football supporters—after the Super Eagles failed to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

In a statement obtained from NFF’s X handle on Monday, the football body said Sunday’s loss to DR Congo in the Africa Play-off Final in Rabat remains a moment of profound sadness for Nigerian football, stressing that for a nation where the Super Eagles serve as a symbol of unity, hope, and collective pride, missing out on the World Cup for a second consecutive time is a disappointment of great weight and emotional depth.

“The NFF, the technical crew, and the players understand the gravity of this moment. We understand the expectations Nigerians rightly hold. We understand the passion and sacrifice of a country that has always stood firmly behind its team, through triumphs and trials. And we recognise that our collective effort did not deliver the outcome this nation deserved.

“In the dressing room after the match, the pain among the players was palpable. Many struggled to speak.

Throughout the long journey of this qualification campaign, we were privileged to receive enormous support from the Federal Government through the National Sports Commission, the National Assembly, key Ministries, Departments and Agencies, our diplomatic missions, the media, and, above all, the passionate fans whose devotion remains unmatched anywhere in the world. 

“Football in Nigeria is more than a game. It is a national language. A bridge across cultures, a source of pride and emotional identity. A powerful symbol of unity that binds over 200 million people as one family. We owe it to this nation to honour that bond with sincerity, accountability, and action,” the statement read.

Looking ahead, NFF said its immediate focus turns to the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, which presents an opportunity for healing, renewal, and the demonstration of the resilience that has always defined Nigerian football.

“In the coming days, the NFF Board and Management will undertake a rigorous, honest, and strategic review process. This will evaluate technical, administrative, and structural gaps that contributed to this outcome and guide decisive steps to reposition Nigeria’s national teams for future success.

“The NFF solemnly commits to the people of Nigeria: we will rebuild trust, restore pride, and reclaim our standing on the global stage. This setback will not be the final word on Nigerian football.

“Nigeria is a nation of resilience, spirit, and unyielding hope. Just as the nation rises from every challenge, so too will the Super Eagles,”NFF said.

Many People Around You Are Not Telling You The Truth – Pastor Adeboye Tells Tinubu

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being misinformed about Nigeria’s security situation by his advisers.

Adeboye made the remark during the church’s November Holy Ghost Service, themed “The Eve of Glory.”

Referencing a recent statement issued by the Presidency, Pastor Adeboye expressed concern that the content did not reflect the reality experienced by many Nigerians.

According to him, the President, whom he described as his “in-law”, had been informed that security had significantly improved and that internally displaced persons (IDPs) had returned home.

The cleric strongly disagreed with that claim, suggesting that the advisers behind such narratives may be misleading the President.

He said, “I almost spoke out last month when I heard the speech from my in-law, the President. You can go and listen to it again, particularly the section that addressed security. When I heard him say that all is well now and that displaced people have returned to their villages, I almost said that the person who wrote that speech for my President, my in-law, does not like him.

“And if you were to ask, ‘What do you mean? Somebody wrote it, but it was the President who read it,’ my response would be, didn’t he review it before delivering it? Well, if you put it that way, then my conclusion is that there are several people around my beloved in-law who are not telling him the truth. I think the following day, we read in the newspaper about a traditional ruler who was killed, whether in Kwara or Kogi.

“But this is not the time for apportioning blame. Our President inherited this problem; it started before him. And in any case, I am an applied mathematician; I am interested in simply getting the problem solved.

“Let the government use diplomatic methods to convince President Trump to give us 100 days of grace. Call our service chiefs, fortunately, they are new, and tell them to perform within three months or resign.

“We have been praying for Nigeria; we can’t pray all these prayers without something happening.

“There is a law called Newton’s Law of Motion, which states that a body will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by an external force to do otherwise. This means that whatever method God wants to use, at the end of it all, there will be peace in Nigeria again.”

Adeboye explained his reluctance to make public statements, attributing it to his position under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He stated that as a clergyman operating under the Christian umbrella body, he exercises caution. To underscore the importance of this chain of authority, he referenced a biblical principle, noting, “I have discovered in the Bible that a man not under authority cannot cast out a demon.”

Donald Trump’s Threat: ‘Nigerian Govt Won’t Be Intimidated’  — Tinubu Declares

President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigeria will not be intimidated, despite growing international concerns regarding alleged genocide against Christians in the nation.

The President made the remarks in a statement posted on his verified X account on Friday, days after United States President Donald Trump threatened potential military action over alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Tinubu stated that Nigeria would continue to assert itself on the global stage with “calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose”.

Speaking on Nigeria’s security crisis, the President maintained that terrorism remains a long-standing challenge but assured citizens that the government is determined to overcome it.

“We are indeed faced with terrorism — a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle.

“Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail,” he said.

He emphasised that national security is non-negotiable and vowed that no effort will be spared in eliminating threats to peace.

The President urged Nigeria’s international partners to continue supporting the country, noting that collaboration is critical to sustaining progress already made.

This is coming in the wake of the threat by the US President Donald Trump that he had asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.

Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, CPC, in response to allegations of widespread persecution and genocide against Christians.

President Tinubu Writes Reps, Seeks N1.15tr Borrowing Approval To Fund 2025 Budget Deficit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives requesting approval for a ₦1.15 trillion borrowing programme to cover the 2025 budget deficit.

In a letter addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas dated October 31, 2025, the President explained the request became necessary to bridge the unfunded deficit arising from an increase in the total budget size by the National Assembly.

The letter was read during plenary on Wednesday by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie, who presided.

Tinubu noted that while the National Assembly passed a ₦59.99 trillion budget, an increase of ₦5.25 trillion from the ₦54.74 trillion earlier proposed by the Executive, this adjustment created a budget deficit of ₦14.10 trillion.

However, the borrowing plan approved in the budget amounted to ₦12.95 trillion, leaving an unfunded gap of ₦1.15 trillion.

“In view of the foregoing, it is necessary to increase the domestic borrowing limit in the 2025 budget by ₦1,147,462,863,321.39 to close this gap,” the President wrote.

The President’s request, which was made in line with Section 44 (1–2) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, seeks the National Assembly’s approval to establish the borrowing programme in the domestic debt market.

Tinubu expressed confidence in the lawmakers’ prompt consideration of the request, assuring them of his “highest consideration and personal regards.”

The letter was referred to the Committee on Aids, Loans and Budget Management for further legislative action.

It’s Not True – Presidency Denies Reports of Tinubu Visiting White House On Tuesday

Reports of President Bola Tinubu visiting President Donald Trump on Tuesday has been denied.
The Presidency dismissed the report as false.
The report had claimed that President Bola Tinubu will visit the White House on Tuesday to meet with United States Vice President J.D. Vance.
Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a post on X on Monday described the report as false and misleading.
The clarification comes after President Donald Trump threatened possible military action against Nigeria if nothing is done quickly about an alleged persecution and killing of Christians in Nigeria.
Trump had also recently designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern.
The US President cited what he described as ongoing violence against Christians and failure of the government to protect religious minorities.
However, the Nigerian government strongly denied persecution of any religious groups in Nigeria.
Reacting to a report about Tinubu’s impending visit to to the White House, Presidency described the publication as fuelling unnecessary speculation and uninformed commentary about the President’s diplomatic schedule.
Ajayi clarified that if President Tinubu were to visit the White House, such a meeting would be with the U.S. President, not the Vice President.
He wrote: “There is a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the US on Tuesday to see US Vice President J.D Vance. That story is not true. I can see that the fake news by Sahara has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday. If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”

BREAKING: Christian Genocide: Tinubu To Meet US President, Trump

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, “in the coming days.”

Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on policy communication, said the meeting will be centred around claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Bwala’s statement follows Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christians

Posting on X, Bwala wrote: “Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity.”

Trump had threatened military action against Nigeria to “wipe out” terrorists killing Christians in the country.

He also warned that the United States might cut off all aid and assistance to Nigeria.

According to Bwala, both leaders share a strong commitment to tackling insurgency and terrorism.

He noted that Trump had previously supported Nigeria by approving arms sales, which Tinubu’s administration has “adequately utilised” in its counterterrorism efforts.

He wrote: “Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism for which we have massive results to show for it.

“As for the  differences as to whether terrorists  in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved  by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”

BREAKING: Tinubu Rejects Trump’s Designation Of Nigeria As ‘Country Of Particular Concern’

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s classification of Nigeria as a country of particular concern over alleged religious persecution.

Trump, on Friday, designated Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’, expressing concerns over a purported genocide on Christians in Nigeria.

However, in a statement on Saturday, Tinubu insisted that Nigeria is a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.

The statement read: “Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.

“Since 2023, our administration has maintained an open and active engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike and continues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions.

“The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians.

“Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so. Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it.

“Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths.

“Our administration is committed to working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protection of communities of all faiths.”

Tinubu Approves 15% Import Duty On Petrol, Diesel

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has given approval for a 15 percent import duty on diesel and petrol.
As a result, the price of petrol is expected to increase in the country.
The implementation of the import duty will increase a litre of petrol by an estimated N99.72 kobo.
The Guardian reported that this was announced in a letter dated October 21, 2025, where the private secretary to the president, Damilotun Aderemi, conveyed Tinubu’s approval to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Tinubu gave his approval, following a request by the FIRS to apply the 15 percent duty on the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) to align import costs to domestic realities.
The latest development has led to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announcing that it has begun a detailed review of the country’s three petroleum refineries, with a view to bringing them back online.
NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Bayo Ojulari, made the announcement in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday night.
According to Ojulari, one of the options being explored by the NNPCL is to search for technical equity partners to ‘high-grade or repurpose’ the facilities.
Tagged: “Update on Our Refineries”, Ojulari said: “The NNPCL continues to remain optimistic that the refineries will operate efficiently, despite current setbacks.”
It can be recalled that despite spending about $3 billion on revamping the refineries, only the 60,000 barrels per day portion of the facility worked skeletally for just a few months before packing up.
The Warri refinery has remained ineffective weeks after it was gleefully announced to have returned to production, while the one situated in Kaduna State never took off at all.
