NNPP Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji constituency, citing anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.

The Chairman of NNPP in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, who made the disclosure while briefing journalists in Kano on Saturday, said the decision followed Jibrin’s repeated media outbursts against the party and its leadership.

Daily Trust reports that this is coming barely 24 hours after the member said it shouldn’t come as a surprise if he dumps the party.

He also said he is old enough to take a stand independently what is best for him politically.

Reacting, Dungurawa described Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose electoral success was only made possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform, not personal strength.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,”
Dungurawa said.

He explained that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up to engage Jibrin after his interview with Channels Television, but said a subsequent media outing proved he had crossed the line.

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,”
the chairman said.

Dungurawa further accused Jibrin of defaulting in the payment of mandatory party dues, vowing that NNPP would institute legal action to recover the funds.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,”
he added.

On speculations that Jibrin may return to the APC, Dungurawa said such a move would not affect NNPP’s strength, stressing that “politics is about groups and coalitions” and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Tinubu Moves Crude Oil Sales Revenue From NNPCL To CBN

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly given a new order to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Tinubu ordered the apex bank to take over the responsibility for crude oil sales from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The move was to show transparency and accountability as NNPCL over the years has maintained sole control over crude oil sales, and only rendered accounts to the Federal Government.
According to Western Post, under the new arrangement, NNPC will submit receipts for crude oil sales to CBN for vetting and documentation.
A source within the CBN confirmed to the news platform that receipts of payment for the oil sales will be forwarded to the apex bank with immediate effect.
The source added that the new arrangement will block any gap in the crude oil sales and declared receipts.
Experts told the news site that this arrangement is opaque as it makes the NNPC the overall responsibility rendering whatever amount it wishes to FG for the crude oil sales.
They added that the move is no longer tenable amid declining oil revenue following lower oil production arising from crude theft and other sharp practices.
Recall that the CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, last week stated that the collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the NNPCL is to ensure that all foreign inflows are returned to the Central Bank.
Cardoso, who was delivering a keynote address at the launch of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) “2024 Macroeconomic Outlook Report”, said, “This coordinated effort will greatly enhance the Bank’s foreign exchange flows and contribute to the accretion of reserves.

“The expected stability in the foreign exchange market for 2024 can be attributed to the reduction in petroleum product imports and the recent implementation of a market-determined exchange rate policy by the CBN.

“This reform is designed to streamline and unify multiple exchange rates, fostering transparency and reducing opportunities for arbitrage.

“The resulting consistent and stable exchange rate will not only boost investor confidence but also attract foreign investment, elevating Nigeria’s appeal to global investors.”

Kano NNPP Rep Sacked By Tribunal

The National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal in Kano has nullified the election of Muktar Umar Yerima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the House of Representatives member for Tarauni Federal Constituency.

Ruling on the petition brought by Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a three-man panel of the tribunal led by Justice I.P. Chima stated that Yerima was not qualified to qualify to occupy the position as he reportedly forged the primary school certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The tribunal which ruled that NNPP had no candidate in the election and all the votes cast for Yerima were wasted votes, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Yerima.

The ruling was made after the primary school, Hausawa Primary School disowned the certificate rendered by the sacked lawmaker.
