The Real Distraction Is Not DNA, Its Sam Larry, Naira Marley – VeryDarkMan Revisits Mohbad’s Case

Vincent Otse, the popular Nigerian social media critic, who is also known as VeryDarkMan, has revisited the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer Ileriouluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

Recall that Mohbad died on September 12 2023 under questionable circumstances and was buried the following day.

Since his passing, numerous efforts by his family, authorities, and other stakeholders to uncover the truth about his death have been unsuccessful.

In a recent reevaluation of the case, VDM released a new video asserting that justice for Mohbad remains out of reach.

VDM had earlier demanded a DNA test to be conducted, alleging Mohad’s wife Wunmi has knowledge in circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

However, in a u-turn, he now claimed that the late singer’s former employer, Naira Marley, and his associate, Sam Larry, have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death but have not acted accordingly.

He said, “Mohbad did not get justice at the end of the day, the truth is that the main distraction was not DNA, the distraction was Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

“They themselves knows what happened to the boy, I’m telling you the truth, all of them know. Up till now nobody has brought proof that Sam Larry or Naira Marley killed the boy, they know themselves, they know what happened that day.

“But they covered it up, they were trying to settle scores on whatever Naira Marley or Sam Larry did to them.”

VDM also pointed out that while Mohbad suffered various forms of mistreatment from them, only one incident was captured in a “cropped” video that circulated online.

Lagos Coroner’s Court Gives Singer Naira Marley, Sam Larry One Last Chance To Appear In Mohbad’s Death Inquest

The Lagos Coroner’s Court, under the direction of Magistrate T.A. Sotobi, has warned that it will force absent witnesses to testify in the inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, if they continue to disregard summons.

The court allowed Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summonses through newspaper and social media notices, The PUNCH reports.

The witnesses include Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley; Samson Eletu aka Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade, the nurse who reportedly treated the singer before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and the driver who drove him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor.

The head of the Aloba family’s legal team, Taiwo Odumosu told newsmen after the trial that Mohbad’s ally, Boluwatife Adeyemo aka Darosha, was the only key witness present at the court sitting on Wednesday.

Odumosu said the magistrate had considered issuing a subpoena on them if they did not appear at the next court sitting.

“Today’s sitting was to continue with the examination of witnesses to know what happened to Mohbad and how he died. So, among all the key witnesses invited and served through substituted means, only Darosha was in court,” the lawyer was quoted by The PUNCH.

“Meanwhile, the magistrate said she would issue another witness summons one last time chance. She said if they fail to appear on the next adjourned date, they will be subpoenaed,” he added.

The court adjourned the hearing to September 30.

Mohbad died at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

His mother, Abosede expressed support for internal resolution within the deceased’s family to the crisis when she spoke on the court premises on Wednesday.

The mother said: “I don’t want anybody to do anything and what his father says should be regarded as the final decision. I don’t want anybody to do anything. What I want is for them to go to church and mosque to pray for him (referring to Mohbad).

“This is because everything people are doing does not make sense. They did not make us (the family) happy. The mother and the father are not happy. We beg them (the government) in the name of God to let us be and allow our family to settle this case.”

Mohbad’s Family Alleges Police Cover-Up, Complicity, Demands Transparency In Probe Of Singer’s Death

The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, has voiced their disappointment and frustration with the police investigation into his death, accusing the authorities of complicity and a lack of transparency.

In a statement, the family’s representative, Emmanuel Oroko, criticised the police for relying on witnesses’ views without conducting a thorough investigation.

The family also alleged that the police failed to cooperate with the family’s independent autopsy and toxicology test, and refused to provide access to evidence and items taken from the crime scene.

The family has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to remove the officers in charge of the case, citing apparent mishandling of the investigation.

The family’s statement reads: “On all fronts of the investigation, the police officers who investigated the murder of the late singer exhibited overt complicity in the narrative.

“The police relied on witnesses’ views to reach legal conclusions. They failed to tell us what investigation they carried out and what they discovered.

“Secondly, when the court granted us an order to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test, the police refused to cooperate with us.

“Based on our interaction with the forensic pathologists and their requirements, we wrote the police to give access to the forensic experts to see items taken from the scene of the crime including notes made by them.

“All these will help the forensic experts to have a better view of what happened and also form a reasonable conclusion after considering all facts and evidence before them.

“We petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to remove the officers in charge of the case because of their apparent mishandling of the investigation into the death of Mohbad.”

“The Police Service Commission is the civilian oversight body established under the Nigerian Constitution 1999 for the Nigeria Police. Its powers include appointment, promotion, discipline and dismissal of erring police officers except the Inspector General of Police. We are yet to get a response from them,” he added.

Mohbad’s Father Curses Anyone Who Monetizes Late Son’s Remembrance

Mr. Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad has cursed any individual monetizing any content made in remembrance of his son’s death.
Speaking yesterday after attending a court hearing regarding Mohbad’s death, Joseph slammed those commercializating his son’s memory.
“I talked about Mohbad’s first death anniversary and how it’s in two categories. Some people want to use the death of a 26-year-old to make money. When I pass and his song is playing, I shed tears.

“So if somebody has decided that his death anniversary is an opportunity for them to make money, they and their family will suffer from leprosy. This is the time to remember that it has been one year, and we still haven’t gotten justice,” he stated.

Mohbad’s Family Conducts Fresh Autopsy, Awaits Result

Ilerioluwa Aloba, the family of the late singer, who was also known as Mohbad, has conducted a fresh autopsy seeking to determine the cause of his death.

PUNCH Metro reported that the Magistrate of the Coroner Court sitting in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, T.A. Shotobi, on June 26, granted an order to the father of the deceased, Mr. Joseph Aloba, to engage a licensed and certified pathologist for a completely independent autopsy on the late singer.

The court also ordered that the applicant, Aloba, should bear all costs associated with the examination, evaluation, and autopsy.

A member of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the autopsy was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20.
Odumosu noted that the family would proceed to carry out toxicology and histology tests on the necessary samples already obtained if the post-mortem procedure failed to reveal the cause of death.

“The second autopsy as requested by the Aloba family and ordered by the Magistrate of the Coroner Court, Ms. T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, 2024. This autopsy is a two-part exercise, with the first part now completed.

“If the cause of death cannot be determined from this initial examination, the second part will proceed, involving a toxicology and histology test on the necessary samples already obtained,” the statement read in part.

The legal team further disclosed that the procedure was witnessed by Mohbad’s father and two separate pathologists appointed by him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi.

“This comprehensive procedure, conducted last Friday, was witnessed only by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist appointed by Mr. Joseph Aloba and his team, legal representatives of both Mr. Joseph Aloba and  a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba to observe the procedure,”
the statement added.

Mohbad died at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

Being a former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. The Lagos State Police Command had on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.

His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, amongst others.

The singer’s body was on September 21, 2023, exhumed for autopsy to unravel the cause of his death.

However, a pathologist, while testifying before the Coroner’s Court on May 15, revealed that an autopsy couldn’t determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to the decomposition of his body.

Following the disclosure, PUNCH Metro exclusively reported that the US-based lab refuted the claim by the Lagos State Government that the toxicology test was conducted at its facility.

The revelation was in response to inquiries made by our correspondent, who embarked on a fact-finding mission to ascertain the musician’s cause of death.

Responding to PUNCH Metro’s inquiry on May 17, the Client Services Associate, Forensics Division, NMS Labs, Esther Dede, stated, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.”
