2027: Why Goodluck Jonathan Will Not Run Under PDP – Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has claimed former President Goodluck Jonathan will not contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He spoke on Friday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme.
He also claimed that Jonathan’s recent interactions with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, should not be interpreted as signs of an alliance, noting that politicians often meet for different reasons.
Momodu added that speculation is common in politics, citing public reactions to a recent meeting between Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.
He said: “Those who are saying, oh, former president Jonathan will run on the platform of PDP, I doubt, because those who are determined to kill PDP, they are still very much entrenched. Those who are saying, okay, he and former Governor Peter Obi are meeting, it’s normal for politicians to meet. They meet all the time.

“The other day when we saw the picture of the senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu, people said he’s going to dump NNPP and he’s going to APC. People speculate a lot. This is not a time to speculate. This is a time to focus and strategize.

“So all this noise about this will go there, let people go. In a democracy, if you cannot agree on consensus, then let there be primary, let them go to poll and whosoever wins, so be it.”

I Was Betrayed By Many Politicians – Goodluck Jonathan Reveals

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has alleged that he was betrayed during his 2015 re-election bid.

Jonathan made the remark in Benin, the Edo State capital, during the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe.

According to him, Oghiadomhe is one of the few friends he has who can stick out their necks for him.

“Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals,”
said the former President of Nigeria.

“I have witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election. You will find it difficult to see somebody who says the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening.”

During Jonathan’s presidency, Oghiadomhe served as Chief of Staff between 2010 and 2014.

Recently, there has been widespread speculation that the former president may contest the 2027 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. However, he has yet to confirm the reports.

You Can’t Sack Tinubu With Same Method Used Against Jonathan – Kwankwaso Warns El-Rufai

Musa Ilyasu Kwankwoso, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has sent a message to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai.
According to him, El-Rufai can’t remove President Bola Tinubu the same way he orchestrated the removal of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Kwankwaso stated this ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Kwankwaso described El-Rufai’s approach as outdated and ineffective, warning that the same tactics used against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 could not be replicated against Tinubu.
“You cannot oust President Bola Tinubu from the presidency in 2027 by engaging in the same method you did to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, using poverty, insecurity and economic devastation. Your blackmail is clear to all,” Kwankwaso said.
The APC chieftain maintained that President Tinubu had made notable progress in addressing insecurity and stabilizing prices of commodities, crediting National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for ongoing improvements in the security sector. He accused El-Rufai of being displeased with these gains, insisting that Nigerians could clearly see the government’s efforts.
Kwankwaso further challenged El-Rufai to present evidence to support his allegations that the Tinubu administration was sponsoring banditry and other criminal acts. “In the absence of such evidence, El-Rufai should desist from further comments and allow the government to continue the good things it is doing for Nigerians,” he added.
He also alleged that El-Rufai was attempting to instigate the northern region against the Tinubu administration, but stressed that northerners were “not stupid” and could see the progress being made in areas like Birnin Gwari, Sokoto, and Borno.
Tagging the emerging coalition of opposition politicians as “a failure,” Kwankwaso argued that figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and El-Rufai had nothing better to offer Nigerians. “Who amongst them has performed as good as Tinubu when he had the chance?” he asked.
The Kano APC stalwart also recalled recent successes recorded by security agencies in arresting commanders of bandits and terrorists. He called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu administration while discarding “all forms of blackmail perpetrated by opposition figures.”

2027 Presidency: They Want To Destroy You Politically – Group Warns Jonathan

The South-South Reawakening Group (SSRG), a socio-political organization in the Niger Delta, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to be cautious of the various groups urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The group led by Dr. Joseph Ambakaderimo said any attempt for the former President to yield to such call would lead to his political demise, saying that the people behind the call do not mean well for him and Nigeria as a whole.

Ambakaderimo in a telephone conversation in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said about six different associations in the Niger Delta region met recently to look into the import of the calls by some northerners to drag Jonathan into the political fray and came to the conclusion that “those behind the scheme were Nigeria’s enemies”.

Acording to him, “go back to history, you will see that these are the same people who hated Jonathan with passion when he served as president. They said he was weak; he was incapable of securing Nigeria from Boko Haram terrorists. So, what has suddenly changed now?

“The Jonathan narrative in this enterprise of drafting him to run in the 2027 elections hasn’t been made clear to us by Jonathan himself. Therefore, l wouldn’t want to say much until he, Jonathan, speaks by declaring his intentions.

“However my understanding at this time and the question to ask is how come the sudden 360 degree likeness and love from persons who worked against Jonathan and previously called him all the unprintable names have now become the ones urging him to come out of his political hibernation?.

“My understanding is that there is a grand plan to scatter the southern votes by way of drafting in as many candidates as possible from the south to scramble for the southern votes while leaving the northern votes intact for the supposedly single dominant candidate.

“If this is the strategy of Jonathan’s new found friends, we may likely see a scenario where that Northern candidate might win with not more than three million votes, which will lead to a possible runoff in 2027. This strategy is just to weaken the incumbent, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and take power back to the North through the back door.

“So far, we are watching this game with rapt attention to see the destination where it will anchor”, Ambakaderimo said.

Recall that a pro-Jonathan group, Bring Back Our Goodluck, last weekend in Kano had called on Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election, declaring that Nigerians were “misled in 2015” into voting out his administration.

2027: Replacing Tinubu With Jonathan Not Solution To Nigeria’s Problems – Farotimi

Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has rejected calls for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in 2027, stressing that Nigeria’s challenges are deeper than any single leader.

Farotimi spoke in an interview with Channels Television, noting that a change of personnel without addressing structural issues in the country would not deliver meaningful progress.

“A thousand Goodluck Ebele Jonathans cannot solve the problems of Nigeria. If we do not address our structural problems and tell ourselves the truth, nothing is going to change. They can recycle all these people as many times as they can,”
he said.

He recalled that Jonathan was once heavily criticised and voted out in 2015, but ten years later, political actors are attempting to rebrand him as a “saviour.”

Farotimi argued that Nigeria’s political class has consistently failed to act in the interest of the people.

“They want to bring Goodluck Jonathan because it is the safe option for them. It is not about what is in it for the people,” he noted.

He stressed that true change should focus on strengthening systems and institutions, rather than depending on recycled politicians.

“If we’re talking about change in 2027, what does it mean in education? What does it mean for security, agriculture, telecoms, or the structure of the country?” he asked.

The activist maintained that Nigerians should demand systemic reforms instead of looking to past leaders for salvation.

2027: “I see Jonathan back in Aso Rock as President” – Prophet Serimoedumu

The General Overseer of Mount Zion Divine Gospel Ministry Inc., Prophet Bomadi Serimoedumu, has predicted the possible return of former President Goodluck Jonathan to Aso Rock in 2027, saying Jonathan will win if he decides to run and will usher in a period of prosperity and joy for the nation.

During a church service at the Paradise City Zion headquarters in Bomadi, Delta State, Serimoedumu, who is revered by followers as the “Field Marshall of the Prophetic” and “Secret Revealer of the Niger Delta,” said he had a spiritual vision where Jonathan emerged victorious under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner.

In his prophecy, the prophet described seeing the PDP flag flying high with Jonathan leading it, symbolizing his success.

He also predicted that Jonathan’s leadership would bring about four years of economic growth and widespread happiness across Nigeria.

“I see President Goodluck Jonathan in Aso Rock leading this country again. If he chooses to run in 2027, he will return as President. There will be prosperity, and the people will rejoice,” Serimoedumu said.

The cleric also recounted a spiritual experience linked to the 2023 elections, where he claimed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima appeared to him in a vision.

In this vision, Tinubu promised to serve only one term and sought Serimoedumu’s prophetic endorsement.

“I saw Tinubu seated on a chair with Shettima on the floor beside him. Tinubu asked for my support, promising to run only one term. However, Shettima seemed unhappy about the one-term plan,” the prophet revealed.

He described these visions as “awe-inspiring secret things” and reaffirmed his role as the “Secret Revealer of the Niger Delta.”

This prophecy fuels ongoing speculation about the 2027 presidential race, particularly regarding whether Jonathan will attempt a return to power after his first tenure from 2010 to 2015.

2027: Jonathan ready to run again – Insider

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reportedly accepted to be the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election to confront incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A close ally of Jonathan confirmed to Vanguard that the former leader has agreed in principle to re-enter the presidential race, with the goal of tackling widespread poverty and hardship that many Nigerians have endured in recent years.

According to the source, prominent political figures and elder statesmen convinced that Jonathan’s previous tenure brought stability to the country and the economy are behind the push to bring him back.

“Jonathan is being urged to contest again to reposition Nigeria. The idea is to give him one term to stabilise the system and possibly return power to the North by 2031 without much resistance from the South,” the ally revealed.

Behind-the-scenes meetings have already taken place, including a recent one with former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, in Minna. Although the details of Babangida’s response remain private, insiders believe the northern political establishment has been largely sold on the idea.

Jonathan is also said to be engaging leaders across the South-South region, including undisclosed stakeholders in Port Harcourt, to secure support from his home base.

The PDP is reportedly going all-in to bring Jonathan back into the party’s core fold. According to PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, calls for Jonathan’s return have grown louder as many Nigerians now reflect positively on his administration.

“People now admit they made a mistake by not re-electing him. He’s being asked to return and rescue the country,” Abdullahi told BBC Hausa Service. He also confirmed that Jonathan is laying down conditions, including clarity on the party’s primary process and his role if he accepts the offer.

Sources say PDP leaders have also met with Jonathan in The Gambia to persuade him to take the party’s presidential ticket.

Ex-president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has congratulated Gov Duoye Diri of Bayelsa state after he emerged winner of the November 11 governorship election.

Congratulating Diri in a statement made available on his official X handle, Jonathan, who once served as the Governor of Bayelsa state, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to work towards the improvement of the country’s electoral system.

In his congratulatory message, Jonathan held that Governor Diri’s victory was well deserved, adding that his victory demonstrated the people’s faith in his leadership.

“Congratulations to His Excellency @govdouyediri on his re-election as the Governor of Bayelsa State. Your victory at the poll is well-deserved, as it demonstrates the people’s faith in your leadership and reward for years of commitment to peace, prosperity, and progress of Bayelsa,” statement by the former president partly read.

“Your success confers on you more responsibilities, as the people have, through the ballot, entrusted you with hope and expectation for a better and prosperous future. I urge you to reciprocate this confidence reposed on you by the people through this mandate and work for the general good and progress of all Bayelsans, irrespective of political affiliation, senatorial district, clan or community,” it added.

Calling on the election umpire to take serious issues from the off-cycle election and work towards improving the country’s electoral process, Jonathan said;

“Finally, I call on the electoral umpire and other stakeholders to take seriously the issues of the off-cycle elections and work towards the improvement of the electoral system and sustainability of our nation’s democracy.”

Diri was declared winner of the kneely contested election. Unlike in Kogi and Imo where the winners won with a landslide margin, the margin between Diri and his main contender All Progressives Congress’ Timipre Sylva was slim as Diri polled a total of  175,196 votes to defeat Sylva who scored 110,108 votes.
