Artistes Need To Understand Contracts Signed With Labels – Funke Akindele

Funke Akindele, the famous Nollywood actress, has urged up-and-coming artistes to study and understand the contracts they have with their labels.

Akindele said this on the sidelines of the premiere of the Prime Video Five Part Mini Series tilted: ‘She must be Obeyed’, held at Filmhouse, IMAX Cinema, Lekki, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mini series is about the lives of three successful music stars, their rivalries and the backstabbing activities they engage in to outshine one another.

The series which premieres on Sept. 29 on Prime Video, features an ensemble cast led by Funke Akindele, Lateef Adedimeji, Nancy Isime and Akah Anani.

Patience Ozokwo, Mike Ezuronye, Rachael Okonkwo, amongst others, are in the cast.

Akindele emphasised on the need for young artistes to be educated noting that they must be patient and careful in their proceedings.

“It is extremely important for young and up-and-coming artistes to ensure that they study their contracts to know the details and know what they are going through.”

“We put out a content that affects young artistes and that is why we came up with this series so that when they watch it, they would learn a lot of things and be very careful.

“Young artistes need to be educated and we need to organise a lot of seminars, workshops for them to know that they are important.

“The young talents are very hungry to be seen as they want to showcase their talent but unfortunately, they don’t study their contracts, they don’t get a lawyer or families that are experienced to educate them.

“The series will teach them a lot of things that will help them grow and learn the basic things in the industry,” she said.

She noted that the series centres on the competition in the entertainment industry.

“The main character, ’SHE’, is very condescending and a bully, just like in every sector, you have bullies everywhere as along as there is hierarchy.”

“You get to see competition, drama, fashion, music and we had to showcase what young talents go through.

“The series is an eye opener for everyone and most importantly, it is very educating as well as entertaining, so, I encourage everyone to watch it.” she said.

“Wear your battle scars with pride” – Yul Edochie tells Funke Akindele

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has applauded his colleague Funke Akindele for being bold enough to stand for the gubernatorial elections.

Funke Akindele deleted everything politics-related on her Instagram page following her defeat during the elections. The PDP was defeated by the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Yul Edochie has taken to his page to applaud Funke Akindele for contesting in this year’s elections. He further reacted to Funke deleting all her political photos on her page. According to Yul, those political photos would serve as scars that need to be worn with pride. And will also proof went to battle and came back alive.

He wrote;

To my dear colleague, @funkejenifaakindele
I want to congratulate you for the bold political step you took, running for Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
You did great.
I noticed you deleted all your campaign pictures from your Instagram page.
Of course, I can’t sit in my house and know your reason for doing so, neither is it my business.
But as a concerned colleague and friend I want to encourage you and through you encourage others out there.
A warrior is always proud of his or her battle scars.
The scars are proof that he or she went to battle and came back alive.
You’re a warrior.
Your campaign pictures are part of your battle scars.
Wear them proudly.
Those pictures deserve to remain on your page forever.
It’s a historical moment for you.
A rare privilege.
No matter what anybody says to you.
Don’t be discouraged by those who are laughing at you for not winning. Na childish brain dey worries dem.

Cowards will always laugh at the brave ones.
That’s the only way they console themselves for being cowards.
When they grow up they’ll laugh at themselves for not having the courage to try what you did.
There are no failures in life as long as you never give up.
It’s either you win or you learn.
The person who fails is that person who has not tried at all.
Out of the millions of Lagosians you were picked to be Deputy Governorship candidate.
It’s a human and spiritual honor to be given the opportunity to serve the people.
It marks the beginning of your political journey.
Never give up.
In 2017 I ran for Governor of my state, from start to finish and it’s one of the best things I’ve done in my life.
One of my proudest moments.
I learnt a lot.
My campaign pictures are still on my page, my battle scars.
I wear those scars proudly.
And I’ll never give up.

One day I’ll be the President of Nigeria.
Funke, you will sit in your office someday as Deputy Governor or Governor or President and look at your first campaign pictures and you’ll have tears of joy in your eyes.
You will be proud of your journey.
Never give up.
I wish you the very best.
May God lead you always.
Cheers.”
