Nigerian singer, Teni has recounted how she lost a nanny job after claiming on her CV that she could cook, only to discover that she could not prepare meals successfully when her employer asked her to do so.
The singer shared the experience while reflecting on her brief time working as a nanny, revealing that she had taken two nanny jobs but did not last a week in either position.
Teni explained that her second employer was a doctor married to a Nigerian man. During the recruitment process, they asked about her abilities, prompting her to claim she could cook on her CV.
She admitted that she had not expected her employers to ask her to cook despite listing the skill on her CV.
The singer further explained, “I didn’t know they’ll say I should actually cook.”
According to Teni, her attempt to prepare food went badly, as the meals burnt. The incident reportedly cost her the job the following day.
She said her employer called her and told her not to bother coming back, bringing her brief nanny career to an abrupt end.
Teni’s experience highlights the risks of exaggerating skills
The singer’s account offers a humorous example of how exaggerating one’s abilities during a job application can lead to an uncomfortable situation when an employer expects those skills to be demonstrated.
Although Teni is now known for her music career, her recollection provides a glimpse into an earlier experience outside the entertainment industry.
Her story also highlights the importance of being honest about one’s abilities when applying for jobs.
