GOAT: Jay Jay Okocha Picks Between Ronaldo And Messi

Former Nigeria captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has weighed in on the debate over the greatest footballer of all time, considering whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the GOAT title.

Messi and Ronaldo’s rivalry has dominated football conversations for almost two decades.

The two players have shared 13 Ballon d’Or awards between them, with Messi taking home eight of that number.

In a recent interview with Pulse Fun Facts, Okocha picked the Argentina captain over Ronaldo.

Okocha said, “They are both GOATs but my personal GOAT is Messi because he looks more natural to me.”

Both Messi and Ronaldo have been left out of this year’s nominations for the Ballon d’Or, in what could spell the end of an era.

Despite the challenges he encountered while managing the Super Eagles, Peseiro said the “job was special”.

”Nigeria was an amazing job, with good players. We played very well in the AFCON. I think our team was the best until we lost to Cote d’Ivoire in the tournament,” added vastly travelled coach.

Peseiro is still without a job since leaving Nigeria. The former Venezuela coach said he is waiting for the right project.

”I am waiting for a good job, for a good step. It is true there were offers from South Africa, Europe and in Brazil as well, but I didn’t take any and feel good for those jobs. Someone called to tell me about the Sundowns job and about other things but until now, nothing special,” he remarked.

Super Eagles Need A New Jay Jay Okocha – Siasia Says

Samson Siasia, a former Super Eagles head coach, says he believes the team is currently lacking a creative midfielder.

Siasia said the Super Eagles need a playmaker in the mould of former captain of the side, Austine Jay Jay Okocha to be a world-beater.

Nigeria is yet to find a suitable replacement for Okocha since the former Bolton Wanderers star quit international football in 2006.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi was expected to take up the role but failed to live up to expectations.

Fulham star, Alex Iwobi has been used in the number 10 role in recent years but Siasia claimed he is not good enough to play the position.

“We don’t have an offensive midfield player that can give the last pass to the strikers. We have great strikers, but we need someone that is missing,”
Siasia told Lagos Talks.

“Iwobi can not play that position. He’s a good player, but he’s not doing as much as he’s supposed to as an offensive player. We have to look for that person in the centre of the field, who can give the last passes and score goals.

“In the defence and other parts, right and left midfield, we are good. We need someone like Jay-Jay Okocha, but it has to be somebody that can score more than him.”

Very Soon You Will See Some Banks Get Prosecuted – EFCC Boss Talks Tough

Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has firmly committed to a thorough and vigorous enforcement of the nation’s financial laws. The Commission aims to thoroughly cleanse the banking sector and protect it from the harmful effects of criminal activities by rogue individuals.

This forthright declaration was made on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)’s 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, which was convened under the thought-provoking theme: “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: The State of Play and the Way Forward.”

The conference was held at the opulent Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Speaking tough on what will be done, Olukoyede said: “I make bold to tell you with every sense of humility that we are no longer folding our arms. As a matter of fact some of the mind-boggling, major financial fraud and onslaught that have been carried out against the economy ran through the banking industry. We are committed to working with the institute in sanitizing the financial services sector through robust enforcement of our financial laws and insulating it from impact from criminals both from within and from without.”

Olukoyede further reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to the enforcement of extant laws and penal sanctions, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of their stature or position within the banking and financial sector, would be spared in the cleansing endeavor.

“In as much as we are ready to work with you to sanitize the system, we must also note that it is extremely important to state that when there are criminal infractions, penal sanctions will follow. We have compiled our documents; we have made the necessary investigations, we have concluded and very soon you will see some banks get prosecuted and top officials prosecuted. We need to just do something drastic to bring everybody in line. To do the right thing is extremely important. In a system where there are no penal sanctions for criminal infractions, that system will never survive.

“From our experience with the investigation of financial crimes involving members of the banking profession, there is gross contempt for regulations that bother on impunity. Operators secretly devise means to circumvent regulations and rules in a desperate bid for higher yields. Sharp practices such as forex round-tripping, defrauding of investors through phantom charges and complicity in money laundering and illicit financial flow involving politically-exposed persons continue to undermine the integrity of the sector and by extension the nation’s economy.

“Look at yourselves in the mirror and leave this place with renewed commitment to professionalism and determination to provide services that will assist the growth and development of the Nigerian economy,” the EFCC boss stated.

AFCONQ 2025: He Was Tormenting Them – Eguavoen On Substituting Chukwueze Against Rwanda

Augustine Eguavoen, the interim Super Eagles coach, has opened up on why he substituted Samuel Chukwueze during the second half of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying match against Rwanda on Tuesday.

Chukwueze was brought off at halftime, with Moses Simon taking his place.

Speaking at his post-match interview, Eguavoen said the AC Milan winger had to be replaced because he had a yellow card and was tormenting the hosts.

“He [Chukwueze] is very good, he’s one of our good players. Today, we came up with a strategy, he got a yellow card and he was tormenting you [Rwanda] guys,” Eguavoen told reporters.

“We had three players on yellow cards so it’s kind of a risk also. We have to make some substitutions and we have players who can go forward also.

“We thought Chukwueze should rest not because he’s not playing well but because of the risk of getting a second yellow card.”
