I Did Not Disrespect Olubadan – Peter Obi Clarifies

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has clarified that his goodwill message to His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, carried no element of disrespect.

In a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, Obi said he prefers to use the expression “my dear elder brother” when addressing individuals especially those close to him and for whom he has tremendous respect.

“I have read the concerns of those aggrieved by what they considered improper addressing.

“I respect protocol and authority, and I try, as much as possible, to adhere to them. However, those who follow me would have noticed that I often prefer to use the expression “my dear elder brother” when addressing individuals especially close to me and for whom I have tremendous respect.

“I always refer to His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, as my very dear elder brother in the same affectionate manner.

“In matters of wrongdoing, motive is important. I assure all that my words were borne out of untrammelled goodwill,” he wrote.

It’s Economic Sabotage – Dangote Refinery Slams PENGASSAN, Seeks FG’s Intervention

Dangote Refinery has condemned the directive by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) ordering its members to halt gas and crude supply to the facility, describing the move as an act of economic sabotage.

The oil company made this known in a statement on Saturday.

This comes after PENGASSAN hit back at Dangote Refinery for sacking over 800 workers belonging to the union.

In a swift response to the demand for reversal of the sack, PENGASSAN had asked its members across the country to cut off gas and crude supply to the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

However, in a lengthy statement, Dangote Refinery described the move as a “criminal and illicit affront” against what it described as a national asset.

“The follow-up question is, in whose interest and on whose behalf is PENGASSAN directing and intending to inflict such anarchic and criminal disruption upon the Nigerian society and persons living in Nigeria? Most certainly not in the interest of the Nigerian State and/or the Nigerian public and citizens.

“This is also economic sabotage against the Nigerian State at multiple levels.

“Dangote Refinery is the only refinery of its type in Africa and ordinarily should be the pride of Nigerians and the government. Indeed qualifies as a strategic national asset. An irreparable injury to the Dangote Refinery, such as PENGASSAN has directed, constitutes a national embarrassment to all of us.

“The directive is a disincentive to external investors who ordinarily would have been encouraged by the success of Dangote Refinery to contemplate investing in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector or generally,”
the company said.

It further urged the Federal Government to call the union to order.

“We are, by this write-up, drawing the attention of the Federal Government and its security and law enforcement agencies – as well as all other levels of government in Nigeria – to this criminal, lawless, reckless and irresponsible conduct of PENGASSAN and calling on them – the Federal Government and its agencies, in particular – to call the Association to order.”

Meanwhile, the company remained silent on what PENGASSAN termed an unjust treatment meted out to Nigerian workers through arbitrary termination of appointment.

Recall that PENGASSAN had vowed to take all necessary action to ensure that the ill-treatment against Nigerian workers by the refinery is addressed.

The Throne Of Our Ancestors Is Not A Stage Of Mockery – Monarch Blasts Taye Currency Over Performance At Olubadan Coronation

The Olu of Kemta Orile in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Adetokunbo Tejuosho, has criticized Fuji musician Taye Currency for his performance at the installation ceremony of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday.

In a viral video making the rounds on social media, the musician could be heard singing in Yoruba “Were la fi n wo were”, meaning “we cure madness with madness.”

Here

Reacting in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, Oba Tejuosho said that Currency engaged in what he called “disgusting and uncultured lyrics.

He asserted that such careless statements and vain glory songs failed to accord the highly respected Yoruba tradition and sacredness of the coronation event the respect that it deserves.

The royal father said that the coronation of a monarch is expected to be a momentous occasion, steeped in tradition, grandeur and the collective pride of traditional institutions and the nation at large, and that no one is therefore allowed to subject such a highly significant cultural and spiritual event to any form of disrepute

He said, “The throne of our ancestors is not a stage for mockery, nor the coronation of a great monarch a subject for careless entertainment.

“Kingship is sacred, adorned with honour and guarded by tradition. It demands reverence, dignity, honor, class and the utmost respect from all who stand in its presence.

“Listening to the musician (Taye currency), who was invited to render music before the Crown, as a matter of fact before the entire world, to serenade the audience and sing in a way to express admiration, singing songs like (were lafin wo were) We use madness to cure madness

“Such lyrics were classless and unbefitting of such occasion, it is insulting to the sacredness of the gathering.

“His Majesty Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja Arusa the the first, is unarguably considered to be the first Nigerian to be a senator, a governor as well as a king, his coronation ceremony was filled with dignitaries from all walks of class, royalties, big political figures, world ambassador and representatives of diverse clans.

“Such conduct and lines of music was unfit and unacceptable in the presence of the entire world, music in the royal court is not mere noise, but an offering of homage to history, culture, and authority.

“It is of utmost importance to state it clearly that before the throne, words must carry weight, rhythm must uphold respect, and melody must be a vessel of honor, (Sekere loba njo).

“To do otherwise is to stain the dignity of our heritage and diminish oneself before the people.

“The sanctity of the crown remains untouchable. Those who approach it must do so with wisdom, restraint, and profound respect.

“Doing a deep thinking will make one queries the reason of the organizers presenting such individual to represent an event of such magnitude, especially with presence of dignitaries such as His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Gcfr) the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“No wonder people invest so huge in having the likes of King Sunny Ade, Commander Ebenezer Obey or Alh Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 d ultimate) at the band stand to duly represent and promote their images.

“And if Oyo State had wanted to promote their own, the likes of Alh Rasheed Ayinde (Merenge) and other calm artistes would have been an appropriate selection for an event like this.”

Obasanjo Is The Most Successful President Since 1999, But He’s Also A Bully – Osinbajo’s Ex-Spokesman

Laolu Akande, former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has hailed Olusegun Obasanjo as one of Nigeria’s best-performing presidents since 1999.

Akande, however, noted that Obasanjo capitalized on bullying to push his third-term agenda.

He explained that the former president bullied those in power as a strategy to advance his third-term ambitions because they could not fight back.

Akande made the remarks on Channels Television’s programme, Inside Sources.

He said: “Ex-President Obasanjo is about the best-performing president since 1999. We cannot deny that. And it’s not easy even for me to say that because I saw another administration. But we cannot deny the fact that so far, President Obasanjo’s administration is the one that has the highest level of success.

“So we must understand the strategy of President Obasanjo. He knows that he has the bully pulpit, and he uses it to raise a loud voice, knowing that the people who would counter him don’t have an equally loud voice.”

This comes as the former president denied widespread reports that he sought a third term.

It had been reported that Obasanjo allegedly bribed the then National Assembly in a bid to amend the constitution to secure a third term, but he was reportedly resisted by lawmakers.

New Olubadan Ladoja Asks Tinubu For Creation Of Ibadan State Before 2027

The 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the creation of the State of Ibadan before 2027.

He made the call during his coronation after receiving his staff of office at an event attended by Tinubu and other dignitaries, including Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde.

Speaking in Yoruba, the monarch said, “My people sent me a message to Mr President. Mr President, they said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”

Governor Makinde, speaking at the occasion, described the emergence of Ladoja as the 44th traditional leader of the ancient city as a source of pride to the people of Ibadan.

He said, “It is a great honour to join in celebrating the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The joy and excitement that fill Ibadan today remind us of the importance of upholding our cherished traditions.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the coronation took place at the revered Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area. Before this, the monarch received the symbolic Akoko leaf, an essential rite of passage, at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, marking his traditional induction.

The ceremonial honour — the official presentation of the staff and instrument of office — was conducted by Governor Seyi Makinde at Mapo Hall, sealing Ladoja’s transition into his royal role.

Governor Makinde made an early return from his scheduled leave to personally attend and supervise the coronation of Oba Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

At the Oyo State House of Assembly plenary session held on Thursday, Deputy Speaker Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, standing in for Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, formally read and acknowledged the governor’s letter of resumption.

In October last year, SaharaReporters reported that, in an unprecedented move, a bill to amend the 1999 Constitution to create new Oyo and Ibadan States passed the second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill, sponsored by Akeem Adeyemi, the son of the late Alaafin Adeyemi, alongside six others, seeks to create Oyo State and Ibadan State.

Details of the bill showed that Oyo State would have Oyo town as its capital, while Ibadan State would have Ibadan city as its capital.

The constitution alteration bill was passed for a second reading during same plenary.

According to the report, EU users are expected to pay a fee starting from €5.99 (£5) a month to see no ads.

“It will give people in the UK a clear choice about whether their data is used for personalised advertising, while preserving the free access and value that the ads-supported internet creates for people, businesses and platforms,” Meta said.
However, it was learnt that the UK users may have no option to not pay and see “less personalised” adverts.

Dangote Refinery Reorganises Workforce Over Sabotage, Denies Mass Sack

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has initiated a major reorganisation of its operations and staff structure.

The refinery said the decision was taken in response to repeated sabotage by staff members that threatened the operational safety of the 650,000 barrels per day facility.

In a letter dated September 24, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager, Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, the refinery said it was “constrained to carry out a total reorganisation of the plant” following “many recent cases of reported sabotage in different units of the Petroleum Refinery leading to major safety concerns.”

Affected staff were directed to hand over all company property to their line managers and await clearance before receiving their entitlements, which the Finance Department would compute in line with their conditions of service.

However, a senior official of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals dismissed reports that the company sacked workers en masse, insisting that the recent development was a reorganisation exercise aimed at curbing sabotage within the plant.

Speaking to The PUNCH on Friday, the official, who confirmed the authenticity of the disengagement letter, stressed that its interpretation had been largely misrepresented.

“Yes, the letter is correct. But the interpretation is wrong. The interpretation is that it affects some people because of certain things discovered in the refinery. It has nothing to do with unionism or anything like that,”
the official said.

According to him, the move was designed to plug leakages and protect the company’s assets following repeated acts of sabotage.

“It doesn’t mean they have been sacked. That is incorrect. What was done was to put a check in place. It is more like a clean-up in the system to check where those sabotage and leakages are coming from and then address them. As soon as the issues are addressed, they will be reabsorbed. That is why it is not a sack and that word wasn’t used,”
he explained.

He added that the exercise was carried out suddenly to prevent those involved in the alleged sabotage from concealing their actions.

“Some acts of sabotage have been noticed repeatedly and the company is only trying to safeguard its assets. Also, you cannot do things like this and give two weeks’ notice; otherwise, those in the act would cover up and complicate issues,”
he said.

The official further clarified that refinery operations were ongoing and that both Nigerians and expatriates were still actively working at the plant.

“As we speak, people are still working at the refinery. The people affected know themselves, and those who did not get the letter are not affected. Anyone who doesn’t have a hand in sabotage has nothing to worry about,” he stressed.

When contacted, Dangote spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, did not respond to messages sent to him by our correspondent
