Step Down For Nigeria’s Sake – Baba-Ahmed Tells Tinubu

Former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider stepping aside, suggesting that it could be the best decision for the country.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Daybreak on Monday, he said the President’s two and a half years in charge have not matched the promises made or the achievements often credited to him.

He argued that official claims from the government do not reflect what Nigerians are facing daily.

“There’s a wide discrepancy between what he says he’s doing and what people say they are living,”
he said.

Baba-Ahmed also criticised the President’s approach to security.

According to him, “President Buhari left a terrible security situation and Tinubu doesn’t appear to have improved it; rather, it appears that he has made it worse.”

He suggested that Tinubu’s age, his long-held ambition to become president, and having “no further value to offer” may be reasons for asking him to step aside.

“If President Tinubu loves the survival of Nigeria, I think he should call it quits,”
he said.

He added that Nigerians should find someone else in 2027, “whether within or outside his party, who has better qualities.”

BREAKING: Again, EFCC Re-arrests Abubakar Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again taken Nigeria’s former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), into custody, just days after his initial questioning by the anti-graft agency.

Sources confirmed to SaharaReporters that Malami was arrested late Monday night and was reportedly struggling to meet the stringent bail conditions set by the EFCC that same night.

Investigations revealed that Malami was actively searching for two serving permanent secretaries to stand as sureties, a critical requirement to fulfill the bail conditions for his release.

“EFCC arrested Abubakar Malami again; he was looking for two Permanent Secretaries for bail conditions on Monday night,”
a source privy to the probe disclosed.

This marks Malami’s second detention in quick succession. He had initially honored an EFCC invitation on Friday, November 28, to clarify certain issues and was granted bail but was almost forced to spend the night in custody due to the conditions.

Malami later confirmed his release from the first detention, stating on his official X handle,“The engagement was successful and I am eventually released while on an appointment for further engagement as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continue to unfold.”

The re-arrest comes amid Malami’s strong public dismissal of the core allegations leveled against him by the EFCC, which center on the recovery process of the $310 million (later $322.5 million with interest) Sani Abacha loot.

Malami dismissed the EFCC’s claims that he “duplicated” a recovery process allegedly completed by Swiss lawyer Enrico Monfrini before Malami assumed office in 2015.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mohammed Doka, Malami described the EFCC’s claims as “baseless, illogical, and devoid of substance.”

Monfrini himself applied in December 2016 to be re-engaged for the same recovery, which Malami argued contradicts the notion that the process was already concluded.

Malami insisted he saved the Nigerian state between 15% (76.8 billion at an average ₦1,600/ rate) and 35% ($179.2 billion) of the recovered sum by rejecting Monfrini’s demand for a 20-40% success fee and a $5 million upfront deposit, opting instead for a local law firm on a transparent 5% success fee basis.

Malami concluded that “any claim or investigation suggesting abuse of office or money laundering in relation to the $322.5million is not rooted in any reasonable ground for suspicion.”

CBN Approves 82 Fully Licensed BDC Operators In Nigeria (Full List)

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed that only 82 Bureau De Change (BDC) operators currently have valid licenses to operate in the country.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Bank’s spokesperson, Hakama Sidi Ali.

According to the apex bank, the approvals were granted in line with its powers under the Bank and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020 and the 2024 Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Bureaux De Change Operations.

The CBN said the final licenses became effective on November 27, 2025, warning that any individual or company operating a BDC without a valid license is in violation of Section 57 of BOFIA 2020.

“By this notice, only Bureaux De Change listed on the Bank’s website are authorized to operate from the effective date,”
the statement said.

While noting that the list of licensed operators will be updated regularly on its website, the CBN urged the public to avoid dealing with unlicensed foreign exchange dealers.

“For the avoidance of doubt, operating a Bureau De Change business without a valid license is a punishable offense under Section 57(1) of BOFIA 2020. Members of the public are hereby advised to note and be guided accordingly,”
the Bank added.

Queen Naomi Left Me, But God Blessed Me With Seven More – Ooni Of Ife Boasts

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has shared the kinds of comments people made about him before he married his wives.

He stated that people used to make fun of him and ask him why he was single, until he finally got married and had a queen.

The monarch added that people also complained that his wife followed him around, noting that she eventually left him and that he now has seven wives.

He stated this while speaking during the opening of his Ojaja University in Osun State.

The institution was launched as part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary held in Ile-Ife.

He said, “Some of them used to make fun of me that, ‘Kabiyesi, why are you single? What is your problem? Go and look for a queen now.’

“Eventually I got another queen by force by fire. Then they said, ‘You are always going around with this queen.’

“The queen left me. To the glory of God, God blessed me with seven more. Did I not try?”

Three of his wives who attended the event, Olori Folasade, Olori Ronde and Olori Temitope, reacted with cheers and laughter as the king spoke.

The monarch then asked the crowd to applaud them.

Recall that the Ooni of Ife, married Queen Silekunola Naomi in October 2018.

The marriage drew wide attention because Naomi was a young prophetess, and the union was seen as a blend of traditional royalty and Christian spirituality.

However, the relationship became rocky over the years. By December 23, 2021, Queen Naomi shocked Nigerians when she announced on Instagram that the marriage had ended.

Tension As Hoodlums Attack Anambra Church, K!ll Two

Unknown gunmen have attacked St. Andrews Anglican Church in Isiokwe, Lilu community, Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, k!lling two people and setting vehicles and the cleric’s residence on fire.

The PUNCH correspondent, who visited the church premises on Monday, gathered that the wife of the priest of the church was among the two persons k!lled, while some parts of the church building were also burnt.

The premises and environs appeared deserted, while some properties were seen littering the place.

Some eyewitnesses and residents in the area confirmed to PUNCH Online that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, disrupted church activities and sent panic in the area.

One of the sources said, “A brutal attack occurred at the St. Andrews Anglican Church, Isiokwe in Lilu community of Ihiala LGA in the early hours of Sunday.

“The heavily armed hoodlums invaded the church as worshippers were getting ready for Sunday activity and started shooting, setting properties on the church premises, including buildings, ablaze.

“Unfortunately, they brutally murdered the wife of the church priest and one other person. They also injured many others, razed down the priest’s house to ashes, burnt down some church vehicles and other church properties, including a part of the main church building.

“This wicked act on a holy day in a Christian church and in a Christian community has not had a single mention from those who are fast to share happenings from elsewhere.”

The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development on Monday, when contacted.

Ikenga added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has intensified intelligence-driven operations, deployed the joint security team and strengthened surveillance across the area.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned in the strongest terms the attack in the morning of December 7, 2025, carried out by armed criminals, which resulted in the de@th of one person.

“Some persons were inflicted with serious injuries, including the church building partially burnt, and other properties destroyed at a church premises in Lilu, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

“The CP states that this heinous and abominable act, committed against innocent worshippers, is not only an assault on the community, but a grave affront to our shared values of peace, sanctity of life, and freedom of worship.

“The command extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and to the entire Lilu community and assures the public that the Police shall relentlessly hunt down the perpetrators of this crime.

“The CP notes that no community should be subjected to such brutality, as the command will not allow criminals to instill fear or destabilize the peace we are working tirelessly to maintain.

“In view of the above, the command has already intensified intelligence-driven operations, deployed the Joint Security Team, and strengthened surveillance across the area.”

According to Ikenga, police operatives are following every lead, adding that no resource will be spared in ensuring that those responsible are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.

“The command urges residents to remain calm and cooperate with the Joint Security team by providing useful information that can assist ongoing investigations for justice to be served.

“The command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ihiala and the entire state,” he added.

The Lilu community, which is among the communities in Ihiala LGA, is a border town between Anambra and Imo states, and has been under the grip of gunmen for many months.

Nnamdi Kanu Suffers First Setback In Suit Seeking His Transfer From Sokoto Prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected Nnamdi Kanu’s request to be transferred from Sokoto prison to either Kuje Prison in the FCT or Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State.

Kanu had filed an ex-parte application through the Legal Aid Council, praying the court to approve his request without hearing from the Federal Government.

He sought an order compelling the Federal Government and/or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) “to forthwith transfer him from the Sokoto Correctional Facility to a custodial facility within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court.”

Alternatively, Kanu sought an order transferring him to the court’s “immediate environs, such as the Suleja or the Keffi Custodial Centre, for the purpose of enabling the applicant to effectively prosecute his constitutionally guaranteed right of appeal.”

However, on Monday, the ex-parte application was turned down by Justice James Omotosho in the interest of justice.

The judge ordered the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to convert his ex-parte application to a motion on notice and serve same on all parties to allow them to be heard.

He subsequently fixed January 27, 2026, for hearing of the motion on notice.

Justice Omotosho had, last week, declined to give audience to Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel, who announced his appearance on behalf of the IPOB leader despite not being a lawyer.

Niger School Abduction: We Aren’t Officially Aware Of 100 Students Release – CAN

The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stated that it has not received any official confirmation about reports claiming that 100 students abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri have been released.

In a statement issued on Monday, the state chairman of CAN, Bishop Bulus Yohanna, said the association and affected communities have not been formally notified of any release.

“It will be a thing of joy if some of our children have been released. We have been praying and waiting for their return,” Yohanna said.

“If it is true, then it is cheering news. However, we are not officially aware and have not been duly notified. We hope and pray it’s true and look forward to when the remaining will be released,” he added.

Recall that the abduction occurred on November 21, 2025, when bandits attacked the school and kidnapped 315 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers.

However, about 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours and were reunited with their families.

Last week, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, visited the school and assured parents that the remaining abductees were safe and would soon return home.

Reacting to reports of the release during a Channels Television programme on Sunday, former Director of Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche (retd.), commended the Federal Government and security agencies for what he described as a significant breakthrough.

“My take is that the government and the security agencies have done a lot, and I believe that Nigerians will be happy for this.

“I can tell you that it is not easy, whichever way or means were used to get these children out,” Enenche said.

I Still Can’t Tell My Exact Age — Obasanjo Opens Up

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former President, has once again admitted that he does not know his exact age, saying he can only make guesses based on how old his classmates were.

He explained that several of his contemporaries from primary school are still alive, and none of them is younger than 90 years.

Obasanjo made this disclosure on Sunday while speaking at the Toyin Falola Interview Series titled “A Conversation with His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.”

The session was moderated by Professor Toyin Falola, with the participation of the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Dr. Matthew Kukah, and former presidential candidate, Professor Kingsley Moghalu.

During the interview, the former president also spoke about the purpose behind establishing his presidential library, describing it as a tool for safeguarding national records and strengthening institutional memory. According to him, millions of documents have already been digitised.

He said, “We have digitalised over 3m materials. We still have about the same number, 3m to digitalise.

“The idea is when these materials are digitalised, people can have access to them. That is number one. As document preservation, we preserve the past, take note of the present and we want all these to inspire the future.”

Obasanjo further disclosed that several personal and historical records are preserved in the library, including his academic files and private correspondence.

He explained that the facility houses his primary and secondary school records, a letter he wrote to former military ruler, General Sani Abacha, after the death of his son, and another letter addressed to his wife during his imprisonment.

Despite the availability of these records, Obasanjo maintained that he still could not definitively state his age, but pointed to surviving classmates as possible references.

He said, “I don’t know my exact age but I could judge from those who were in school with me, I have given you an example of Olubara (Oba Jacob Olufemi Omolade, the Olubara of Ibara) who is still alive.

“I believe there are six of my classmates in secondary school that I know are still alive and none of them is less than 90 years of age. So I leave it to you to guess what my age could be.

“My school record card in primary school, I have been able to keep them and when I became President and I wanted to establish the library, they were available to be exhibited.

“My records in primary and secondary school and even the manuscripts of books that I have written, those that I wrote in prison and so on, even crops of maize that I planted when I was in prison, they are there and somehow I was able to keep them.

“Why the Presidential Library? I believe one of the things we don’t do too well in our society is that we don’t keep records too well, institutional memory is not what we do very well.”
