My Mother Ate A Lizard-Like Creature To Bring Me Out After 18 Months – Actor Antar Laniyan Shares Strange Birth Story (Video)

Antar Laniyan, a veteran Nollywood actor, has shared the story of how he stayed in his mother’s womb for 18 months, which led to an unconventional labour-inducing procedure.

Speaking in an interview on ‘Behind The Fame’, the thespian disclosed that his mother was advised to eat a lizard-like creature called “Anta” to facilitate his birth.

According to Laniyan, there were concerns that the prolonged pregnancy was a spiritual issue, rather than a medical problem.

He said his mother followed the advice, consuming the dish, and he was born an hour later.

As a result, she named him after the creature, a name he has proudly shared to highlight the sacrifices his mothers made.

Laniyan also revealed that his original name was altered in primary school due to teasing from classmates.

In his words, “There’s a story behind it, and I like telling it at times because I want every individual to know the importance of having a mother: a good mother, a great one.

“The kind of things that our mother passed through before they gave birth to us individually, we do not know, because we were not there. But when a mother goes into telling you how you came to be, you will weep for yourself.

“I overstayed in my mother’s womb; I stayed 18 months, according to her. People around were wondering what was wrong. I mean, something must have gone wrong, not medically. So it could be spiritual. She had to eat something in Yoruba called Anta. It looks like a lizard, smaller than a crocodile.

“So my mother didn’t see anything wrong with adding that thing to my name. She had to take it. They had to prepare it for her. She took it. An hour later, I came. When I got to primary school, and my friends were playing with the name, I added an R to make it Antar.”

Popular Comedian AY Makun Stirs Reactions After Warning People To Beware Of Friends Who Chase Negative News For Clout

Popular Nigerian comedian, AY Makun has sparked online discussion after posting a message about friendship, loyalty, and those who only appear when there’s negative news to circulate.

In a post on X, AY warned his followers to be careful of anyone who calls them “friend” but rushes to jump on negative stories just to trend or make money.

According to him, not everyone smiling around you wishes you well.

His words: “Beware of anyone who calls you a friend yet rushes to jump on any negative news about you just to trend and gain monetization. Not everyone around you wishes you well. May God protect us from friends who are truly enemies in disguise. Their karma is never far.”

But the tweet didn’t end quietly.

An X user quickly replied, claiming AY himself once ignored him years ago in Surulere. He wrote that they met around 2008 or 2009, AY gave him a card, and when he called, it was a PA who kept answering.

He accused AY of “nepotism” and added: “If Alibaba treat you as you treat others, you for no dey where you dey today. Beware of yourself.”

AY responded almost immediately, dismissing the accusation as false. He insisted he didn’t even have a PA in 2008 because he was still building his career at the time. He also said that anyone familiar with comedy in Nigeria would know his relationship with Alibaba has never been an issue.

Another user joined the thread and summarised the whole drama in one line: “Let me simplify it. Avoid friends and acquaintances like Daddy Freeze.”

My Father Fela Kuti Expected Me To Learn Everything On My Own – Femi Kuti Opens Up On His Childhood

Nigerian singer Femi Kuti has reflected on his childhood with his father, the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, saying he grew up without direct guidance and had to learn by observing.

He spoke at the Ake Arts and Books Festival in Lagos, where he described his upbringing as unusual.

According to him, there were no formal lessons at home, yet his father expected him to know things on his own.

He recalled how he was pushed to read and understand many things even though he had not been taught in the usual way.

Femi explained that the normal father-son bond did not exist in their home.

He said Fela demanded excellence from everyone around him, adding that failure was not an option, and excuses were not accepted.

Femi said this made him rely heavily on watching his father’s actions and learning from daily experiences.

He said his understanding of life came from seeing how his father handled danger, police raids, and other challenges.

He often asked questions about fear and survival, and those moments shaped his thinking more than any classroom could.

Femi also said that poor school results never brought anger from Fela.

Instead, Fela reacted in a confusing way that made him question what was really expected of him as a child.

He linked these experiences to his desire to stand on his own.

He recalled how he left Fela’s band years ago to build his identity and follow his own path in music.

He said he believed he was meant to be Femi, not a copy of his father.

Femi also shared that when he released his first album, Fela dismissed it, but he continued to work, grow, and create a career that reflects his own sound and journey.

He said: “He (Fela) expected me to know how to read. How is it possible to know how to read if I am not taught? If I haven’t got any formal education of any sort, how can I read? But I had to read. ‘You should know,’ he would say. ‘Did you take your brain and put it in my head?’

“If you are Fela’s person you had to excel beyond reasonable doubt. You just had to know. So you couldn’t give excuses.

“I learnt by just watching him. I would ask questions probably like ‘Are you not afraid to die?’ He would give me his answer.

“And as I was growing up I would say ‘what’s wrong?’ … but if I failed… Fela would say, ‘Ah you failed, well done.’

“If God wanted me to be Fela, I would have been Fela. I had to be Femi Kuti.”

Why I Apologised To Afeez Owo – Nollywood Actress, Wunmi Toriola Opens Up (Video)

Wumi Toriola, the Nollywood actress, has said she chose to apologise to her senior colleague, Afeez Owo, because she considers herself a true ambassador of culture.

Recall that Wumi publicly criticised Afeez in September for discussing her character during an interview on the African A-List podcast.

Afeez had said the actress’s roles in films were “similar to her character in real life”, adding that “violence is her comfort zone”.

The thespian clarified that Wunmi does not tolerate nonsense and would react to issues whenever people push her.

In response, Wumi, in a post shared on her Instagram page, berated Afeeze, describing the interview as rubbish and questioned why every rift will be dragged to a podcast.

However, Wunmi and Afeez recently reconciled at the movie premiere of their colleague, actor Odunlade Adekola.

In a video that emerged online, Wumi approached Afeez, knelt and apologised for insulting him.

She said, “I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me”.

Afeez, who initially tried to avoid her, lifted her after she went on her knees and hugged her.

In a post on her Instagram page on Tuesday, Wumi stated that she has chosen peace, adding that, even in anger, elders should be off-limits.

She wrote, “I chose to apologise to our Legend because I am a true ambassador of culture, and even in “anger”, our elders should be off limits.

“Also, because our elders deserved calm waters, not raised voices. Once again, to our Fans, friends, no more grudges I have chosen Peace.

“Thank you for your forgiving self @officialafeezowo_fanspage @officialafeezowo.”
