Grammy 2026: I Initially Thought Davido Didn’t Like Me — Omah Lay Reveals (Video)

Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has revealed that he once thought fellow Nigerian artist Davido didn’t like him—a misconception that was later proven wrong and eventually paved the way for their Grammy-nominated collaboration, With You.

Speaking during a GRAMMY 2026 red carpet interview with OkayAfrica, shared by HYPETRIBE on Monday, Omah Lay explained that his perception changed after he came across a video clip of Davido reacting positively to his music.

According to the singer, the moment came at a difficult time for him personally, and seeing Davido’s reaction left a strong impression.

“I was in the house, really, and I was going through it when I saw it, and I lost my mind,”he said.

Omah Lay admitted that he had previously thought there was tension between them.

“It was the fact that I didn’t know Davido was like that. I thought we had a beef. I thought he didn’t like me,” he explained.

However, the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up after they connected.

“It was funny, and we connected so well after that. Boom—magic happened,” he added.

He went on to describe their collaboration as natural and effortless, noting that the chemistry came easily once they began working together.

Omah Lay also spoke about Nigeria’s strong presence at the Grammys, particularly in the Best African Music Performance category.

When asked who he expected to win, he responded, “Me and Davido, of course. But Burna is there, Ayra is there, Wizkid is there. Any of us—we are repping Nigeria.”

Despite the multiple Nigerian nominations in the category, the award ultimately went to South African singer Tyla for her song Push 2 Start.

2026 Grammys: How I Almost Omitted ‘With You’ On 5IVE Album – Davido Reveals (Video)

David Adeleke, the Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, popularly known as Davido has disclosed that his hit song With You, featuring Omah Lay, nearly didn’t make the final tracklist of his 5IVE album.

Speaking during an interview with OkayAfrica, reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday, Davido shared that the song failed to impress during internal listening sessions and was not seen as a standout by his team.

“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.

The singer admitted that the song’s massive success later became an emotional moment for him, as he often reflects on how close it came to being left out.

“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” Davido added.

With You went on to earn Davido another Grammy nomination and has since become one of his most successful recent releases, topping charts and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.

Davido also recalled how he found out about the nomination, describing it as unexpected.

He said the call came while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday, as he was out checking a car.

“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.

Looking ahead, Davido said his focus is firmly on touring and releasing new music.

He confirmed that he will perform at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup.

The singer is scheduled to take the stage on both Saturdays, April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.

“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.

“I also expected Davido to guide her better.

“Cultural representation matters, and it’s crucial.

“I am disappointed in Davido for allowing her to dress this way. I am really disappointed.”

Davido’s Song Owned Last Year – Oyemmyke Reacts After Davido Lost 2026 Grammys To Tyla (Video)

Oyemmyke, the Nigerian social commentator, believes there is a deliberate effort to deny Nigerian singer Davido a Grammy Award.

In a video he released on social media, Oyemmyke questioned why it was Tyla who won the ‘Best African Music Performance’ award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Davido, Burna Boy and AyraStarr were part of the nominees in the category and Oyemmyke felt Davido should have won that category.

Tyla clinched the prize for her song Push 2 Start, marking her second win in the category. She previously won the same award in the inaugural 2024 edition for her global hit Water, becoming the first artiste to win the title twice since the category was introduced.

Reacting to Davido losing to Tyla, Oyemmyke said: ‘’Tyla again?!! Don’t get me wrong, I think Tyla is a fantastic musician but not last year. Davido’s ‘With you’ owned last year. That was the song of the summer all around the world.

“At this point, they do not want to give Davido the Grammys. Sentiments aside. I think he needs to give it up because that’s Davido’s biggest record in the last seven years and that’s because Davido has records but with you?

“This would have been a great opportunity for Omahlay and even if Davido didn’t get it at all, I thought this would have been AyraStarr’s turn.

“At the end of the day its our fault because we put too much respect on this Grammys”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the international recognition of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, following his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The president described Fela as more than a music star, saying he was a bold voice for ordinary people, a deep thinker on freedom, and a strong force who used music to speak against injustice.

According to him, Fela’s work changed the sound of music around the world and pushed important messages that are still felt today.

Tinubu said that Fela’s bravery, talent and strong beliefs shaped his era and continue to inspire many across different countries.

He added that in line with Yoruba belief, Fela has moved to a higher spiritual level and has become eternal through his impact and legacy.

The president also pointed out that Fela became the first African to receive the Recording Academy of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award, even though it came after his death.

He said the honour confirms Fela’s lasting influence worldwide and the key role he played in placing African music on the global stage.

Tinubu stated that Fela created Afrobeat and that his sound and ideas can still be seen and heard in today’s Nigerian musicians, as well as in Afrobeats and other music styles across the world.

“Fela Kuti has blazed the trail with the Recording Academy of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming the first African to receive this honour, though posthumously.  The award is an affirmation of his enduring global influence and the foundational role he has played in the evolution and impact of Africa on modern music.

Why I Don’t Do 50/50 With My Husband Stan Nze – Nollywood Star, Blessing Nze Speaks (Video)

Nollywood actress Blessing Nze has opened up about how she and actor Stan Nze manage finances in their marriage.

The movie producer said their relationship is not based on popular sharing formulas like 50/50 or 70/30.

Obasi explained that both she and her husband take full responsibility when it comes to money, describing their system as one where each partner gives their best without measuring who contributes more.

She said they both pay for things when needed and later exchange receipts to keep a record of expenses.

According to her, this approach allows them to function as a team rather than turning their marriage into something that feels like a business arrangement.

She added that fixing money ratios in marriage can make it feel too formal and transactional, which she tries to avoid.

The actress made it clear that their focus is on partnership and support, with each person stepping in whenever necessary instead of calculating percentages.

“It’s 100/100. There is no 50/50 with me and my partner. We just do things equally and sometimes he does it and just sends the receipt to me, and I do likewise.

“I bring mine, he brings his. I can’t be doing 50/50 or 70/30 because it’s like office work already,” she said

Blessing Obasi is well known for her roles and production work in Nollywood.

She got married to Stan Nze in September 2021, and the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in October 2023.
