Nigerian Celebrity Stylist, Veekee James Under Fire For Making Her Baby Registry Public

Veekee James, the popular Nigerian celebrity stylist, has faced widespread criticism over a baby registry she shared online.

A baby registry is a curated wish list created by expectant parents that outlines all the items they need, want, or plan to purchase for their new baby.

It also serves as a guide for friends and family members to ensure the parents receive useful gifts, reduce the risk of duplicates, and help with the financial burden of preparing for a new child.

Veekee James, in a video on her Instagram page on Tuesday, announced that some friends have been requesting her baby registry and that it is also important to share it with her fans and followers.

However, Veekee’s action sparked backlash online, with some netizens claiming that sharing the registry with the public is unnecessary.

@iamtheyounggod commented, “What people fail to realize is that even the richest of Nigerians is still a Nigerian. There is a poverty in the spirit that never goes away regardless of how much they make. Stay woke.”

@_chiceeeyyy wrote, “I like veekeee James but this is greed You have rich family and friends that can easily pull this off and you want to still collect from your fans ? Is it because they are gullible ? Imagine pouring a cup of water into an ocean.”

@OnerareUnfiltered wrote, “Veekee James has turned her entire life into a sponsored ad.”

@Uzothemaverick1 wrote, “What is it with Nigerians and Oju kokoro? Even the well to do ones amongst us are still greedy, tufiakwa!.”

@sonofomenuko said, “No be to collect gift from Nigerians be the problem, na wetin dem go talk later be the issue. It’s super weird posting your baby registry on a public platform and inviting the public to go shop for you. Weird even for a poor person, much weirder for someone like her. Tueh!”

@adaarrh wrote, “Baby registry is okay to do but keep it to your friends and family as this will prevent getting the same thing twice and what you don’t want . Why are you including fans to get something for you? She has enough money nau”

@Prynnxx said, “This is very normal in the West. Instead of buying random shii the couples prolly wouldn’t use. Registry is good for weddings too.”

Anthony Joshua’s Boxing Future Is Uncertain After Fatal Crash In Nigeria – Eddie Hearn Says

According to his promoter Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua may consider retiring from boxing following a fatal car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

Hearn said there are no guarantees the former heavyweight champion will return to the ring as he continues to recover physically and emotionally from the December accident in Ogun State.

Recall that Joshua had travelled to Nigeria to visit family after stopping Jake Paul with a single punch in his previous bout. However, tragedy struck on 29 December 2025 when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Sina Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, one of his trainers, died in the crash. Joshua survived and was taken to hospital for treatment before later returning to the United Kingdom. He subsequently attended the burial ceremonies of both men.

Speaking to First Round TV, Hearn admitted Joshua’s future in the sport remains unclear.

“I don’t think there is any guarantees he fights again, but at the same time, I expect him to because it’s something that he loves. It’s something he can carry those guys with him, though as well, and it’s something he wants to do,” Hearn said.

He added that the impact of the crash went beyond emotional trauma.

“From a boxing sense, physically, it wasn’t easy what he went through either. People probably don’t realise the extent of what he’s been through. He’s been training, but he’s not ready yet, and he won’t be for a while to return to boxing training,” the boxing promoter noted.

Hearn disclosed that Joshua had been preparing for a March fight, with a potential bout against fellow Briton Tyson Fury under consideration. Those plans have now been shelved.

“We were gearing up for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury. Obviously, that’s not going to happen now. I don’t know if it will ever happen. In the next few months, he will turn up the dial on training and see where he is at on that,” Hearn said.

Fury is scheduled to return to action in April against Arslanbek Makhmudov after more than a year out of the ring.

Why I Banned The Importation Of Rice – Ex-President, Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has attributed Nigeria’s reliance on rice imports to the 1979 civilian administration’s decision to lift a ban he had previously put in place.

Obasanjo was the military Head of State who handed over power to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, democratically elected President of the Second Republic.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the International Memorial Lecture and Leadership Conference marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, Obasanjo said his government had been on the verge of achieving self-sufficiency in rice production for Nigeria before handing over to civilians.

“By the time we left in July 1979, we wanted to be self-sufficient in rice production. We asked that a report be prepared on what was in the fields. The report showed that we would be self-sufficient that year,” he said.

Based on the findings, Obasanjo explained, his administration banned the importation of rice before leaving office in October 1979.

“When the civilian administration came in, one of the first things they did was to lift the ban on rice importation so they could allocate import licences to their supporters and political associates,” he added.

Obasanjo cited what he described as a notorious case of abuse involving a politically connected importer who inflated the cost of a rice contract in order to extract kickbacks.

“Let me give you an example. One of the barons who obtained a rice import licence from America ordered rice and then asked the suppliers to add $5 million to the cost. They did. They added the $5 million and supplied the rice. He then went back to New York and demanded $2.5 million out of the $5 million. They refused and gave him only $1 million. He reported the matter to the Nigerian embassy and to the Nigerian representative at the UN, who contacted the suppliers. The suppliers said they did not understand what the issue was.

“Eventually, the suppliers explained that the man had asked them to add $5 million to the cost and that, without doing so, they would have lost the contract. They took the risk and secured the deal. He wanted $2.5 million but had taken no risk, so they gave him $1 million.

“The ambassador said he felt like digging a hole and sinking into it. That was your country,” he said.

The former head of state added: “Since the lifting of the rice import ban in 1979, we have not recovered from it. That is why we are still importing rice today. These are the kinds of things that go wrong, and then we ask whether Africa has come of age. I wonder.”

Anthony Joshua Honours Friends Who Were K!lled In Ogun Accident With New Tattoos

British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has honoured two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, by tattooing their names on his body. The tribute comes months after the pair lost their lives in a car accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The development was revealed by a London-based tattoo studio, Fulham Tattoo, which shared photos of the artwork on Instagram on Thursday.

According to the studio, the former two-time heavyweight champion visited their shop unannounced for the session, marking his first time at the facility.

“Huge thank you to two-time heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua for unexpectedly and unannounced walking through the door a few weeks ago for his first visit with us at Fulham Tattoo London … what a walk in,” the post read.

The tribute tattoos were dedicated to Ghami and Ayodele, who were both members of Joshua’s training team.

Recall that Ghami and Ayodele lost their lives in December after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck on a road near Lagos.

Joshua, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident, survived but sustained injuries. He was subsequently hospitalised before being discharged and returning to the United Kingdom.

The late Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was one of his trainers.

Despite the emotional toll, Joshua later attended the funerals of both men, joining family members, friends and members of the boxing community in mourning their de@ths.

Recall that the Lexus Jeep conveying the boxer and his associates rammed into a stationary truck on December 29, 2025, along the busy expressway.

The tragic incident sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria and the international boxing scene, with fans and colleagues paying glowing tributes to the deceased members of Joshua’s team.

Many described Ghami and Ayodele as dedicated professionals who played key roles in Joshua’s career, while sympathising with the boxer over the painful loss.

Super Eagles: ‘He Was Sad’ – Peseiro Speaks On How Ademola Lookman Felt Being Ignored By England

Former Nigeria national team coach José Peseiro has shared how Ademola Lookman felt after being overlooked by England, which led to his decision to play for Nigeria.

Explaining why the Atletico Madrid forward opted for Nigeria, Peseiro said this happened after the player waited for a chance to represent England at the senior level.

Lookman was born in London to parents from Nigeria. He played for England’s youth teams, including the U19, U20, and U21 squads.

In February 2022, FIFA allowed him to change his national team allegiance and represent Nigeria instead.

A former African Footballer of the Year, the skilled forward made a last-minute move to Atlético Madrid, and just last weekend, he became the first English-born player to play in the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, and La Liga.

Peseiro talked to Marca about Lookman’s move to Atletico Madrid before his contract ended.

He said, “For Lookman, it’s a challenge, and it’s a big moment in his career because now he’s reached one of the top clubs in Europe… and he can keep showing England that they made a mistake by not picking him for the senior team,” he said.

Peseiro also mentioned that Lookman was confused about why his good progress in youth teams did not lead to a call-up for the senior squad.

“He was still quite young, but he frequently told me about how sad he felt. After winning the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 and moving up to the Under-21 team, England stopped inviting him to join the squad. He couldn’t understand it. He thought he could have a future there, but in the end, he had to accept the situation.”

With parents from Nigeria, Lookman chose to play for the Super Eagles, a decision he made before Peseiro became the head coach.

He has directly helped score 11 goals, with six of those being goals he scored himself and five being assists he provided, in 13 matches.

ADC Is The Only Party That Can Salvage Nigeria – Atiku Declares

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the only party capable of rescuing Nigeria.

Atiku made the declaration on Thursday on the campaign trail of Dr Moses Paul, chairmanship aspirant for the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.

“This morning, I gladly joined the campaign trail of Dr Moses Paul (Dr Mo), the ADC AMAC Chairmanship Candidate in the February 21 FCT Local Council elections. Our first port of call was Apo Wasa.

“Dr Mo is the kind of Nigerian young people in Abuja can relate to and trust with the future of the Municipal Council.

“I encourage FCT voters, including those in AMAC, to vote for all ADC candidates in these elections. This would be the first step towards ousting the failed APC government.

“ADC is undoubtedly the party that will salvage Nigeria, and the surest bet is to start with Dr Mo and AMAC,” Atiku said in a statement.
