The presidential candidate of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February election, Atiku Abubakar has been urged retire from politics following his loss at the Supreme Court.
The call was made by Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).

The advocacy group disclosed this in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko.
Onwubiko advised Atiku to shun politics and become a statesman and campaign for proper electoral reforms.
Speaking further, the group urged the opposition to advocate that the powers of appointment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman and electoral officers be removed from the president.
He said, “We advise Atiku Abubakar to quit politics and become a statesman and allow youngsters like Peter Obi and few other good people to refocus and re-energise opposition party to wrestle power if the laws are made to remove the powers of appointment of INEC Chairman and electoral officials by the President.

“HURIWA expects Atiku Abubakar to be a statesman and campaign for proper electoral reforms so political cases are decided before any levels of government are sworn in after the election”.

APC Congratulates Tinubu, Hails Supreme Court Judgement (Full Text)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the Supreme Court for affirming the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The election was affirmed yesterday.
Recall that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), had earlier approached the court to challenge an earlier verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which confirmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25th election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the apex court, in a ruling presided over by Justice John Okoro on Thursday, dismissed the petitions of the aggrieved presidential candidates and upheld the lower court’s verdict, describing their appeal as lacking in merit.

Reacting, APC, in a statement signed and issued on Thursday evening by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, commended the Supreme Court judgement, describing it as a landmark victory for the party, Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima.
The statement titled ‘APC LAUDS SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT – CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT TINUBU ON EPOCHAL
VICTORY’ reads: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) applauds the judgement of the Supreme Court affirming Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the validly elected President of Nigeria.

“Dismissing the appeals of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) as lacking merit, the Supreme Court upheld the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Court that found in favour of the President.

“This epochal judgement underscores the independence and vibrancy of the Nigerian judiciary as an indispensable feature of our democracy.

“It is our hope that this judgment will put to rest all lingering misgivings about the 2023 presidential election so that we may all now concentrate on working collaboratively across party lines on behalf of our people.

“We heartily congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the Nigerian people on this important landmark victory for our democracy.”

The fresh evidence Atiku sought to tender was the academic records of Tinubu, which were handed over to him by the Chicago State University (CSU) on October 2.The former Vice President had informed the court that the fresh evidence was crucial to his appeal, adding that it has inherent jurisdiction to entertain and decide on the application.

Failure Of IREV Does Not Stop Collation Of Results – Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has held that non-availability of election results on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) is no ground for the nullification of the February 2023 presidential election.
The apex court gave the ruling on Thursday.
Justice Inyang Okoro, leader of the five-panel of Supreme Court justices, gave the ruling in the appeals filed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the Presidential Elections Petitions Court (PEPC) which upheld Bola Tinubu’s February win.
He said it is clear that the petition seeking to nullify the election for noncompliance must not only be ready to prove how the non-compliance affected the outcome election but must be ready to give evidence.
According to him, the petitioner abandoned the duties imposed on them to prove the gravity of noncompliance and its effect.
Justice Okoro said the Electoral Act empowers the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to determine the best method to use during an election.
He added that the unavailability of results on the IReV, cannot be a ground to nullify the the election.
Justice Okoro says the petitioner needed to lay credible evidence to prove the alleged noncompliance. According to him, he has not produced an original or certified true copy of the evidence they want the court to rely on.
He held that the non-availability of the presidential election results on the IReV Portal did not affect the outcome of the election
