Drama Looms As Nigerian Military Goes After Illegal Miners Over Growing Terrorism

The Nigerian military high command has issued a new threat to illegal miners around the country.

The military said that its troops will not give a breathing space for those aiding and abetting terrorists’ activities in the mining areas through their illegal activities.

It also vowed to track down sponsors of illegal mining activities, saying the decision was based on its resolve to get rid of the criminals.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, who disclosed this at the Defence Headquarters during a press briefing on Thursday, said the military was up to the challenge more than ever before.

He said, “Interestingly, the perpetrators of the terrorist and insurgency activities are using it as a guise for their personal gain through illegal mining and other unlawful activities.

“For instance, the foot soldiers carry out the illegal mining from mining pits, while their sponsors are in the cities and towns moving around as normal citizens to dispose of the proceeds.

“The situation underscores the importance of ongoing military operations which are critical to the nation’s effort to achieve peace and security. The military is up to the challenge, and more than ever before, and the outcome is not in doubt.”

He revealed that military officers were presently strategically deployed around the country and that they were working closely with other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

According to him, the ongoing operations reflect the commitment of the military to end terrorism and insurgency in the country, adding that the armed forces would remain focused in the conduct of their operations in support of national security interests.

He further said, “The priority of our operations is the protection of the citizens as well as villages, towns and cities from the senseless violence of terrorist and other violent extremist groups.”

Mohbad: Police Gives Reason Why No Arrest Have Been Made Over Singer’s Death

Spokesperson of the Delta State police command, Bright Edafe has responded to Nigerians calling for the arrest of some suspects alleged to be responsible for the death of 27-year-old singer, Mohbad.

Social media users have demanded the arrest and investigations of Naira Marley, owner of Marlian Music, a label the late singer was signed into, before cutting ties over royalties and change of management.

This comes after old videos of the late singer crying out surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) saying that Marlian Music should be held responsible if he dies.

Other videos of the deceased singer being harassed on a music set with numerous reports that he was threatened and humiliated by some industry players also surfaced.

However, reacting to the requests, Edafe on Thursday said that the microblogging platform is not a police station.

He added via a quoted post that the force is incapable of taking action if the family of the deceased singer lays no complaint.

He wrote: “Twitter is not police station! Twitter is not police station!! Twitter is not police station!! May his soul rest in peace.”

In another post, he quoted a post saying, “If the family don’t put in a complain, the police can’t do anything.. even though, we know in this case the police is hapless, let the family lay a complain first.”

Ondo: When Akeredolu Was Away, There Was ‘Little Governance’ – Aide

Doyin Odebowale, the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy to Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has stated that when his principal was on a three-month sick leave, the state was robbed of optimal governance.

Recall that Akeredolu had last week returned to the country after spending three months in Germany.

The governor, who returned on Wednesday, is still in his Ibadan home, where he has been carrying out official duties.

Speculation has emerged of a rift between Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa following the governor’s sacking of his deputy’s media team with the directive that each member submit government properties in their possession with immediate effect.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Odebowale said Ondo State Government officials robbed locals of governance.

“I can tell you for free, yes, when he was away, there was little of governance,” he said.

“People wanting to contest – yes, they want to be governor, they want to be this, they want to be that. It is within their right, but they were distracting us, and they were recruiting people.”

The governor’s aide stressed that the primary purpose of governance is the welfare of the people, saying officials must serve the people and relegate politicking to the background.

“The governor is not interested in these petty politics that people have reduced the whole state to in his absence,” he added.

“Talking about their relationship, I know the governor and the deputy still met a few days ago. There’s no problem at all,” Odebowale said in reassurance.

Ex-President Buhari Now A Farmer, Goes to Farm Four Days A Week – Garba Shehu

Former President Muhammadu Buhari is now into farming.
This was revealed by Garba Shehu, media aide to the ex-president.
He revealed that Buhari spends four days a week at his farm.
Shehu made this known in a statement released on Thursday titled ‘One Hundred Days after Buhari’.
Shehu said Buhari chose to stay in Daura to be far away from Abuja in order not to distract the new APC administration and in the hope that the distance will make it possible for him to have a good rest.
The statement reads, “He goes to the farm four days of the week and is upbeat about how well the crops and his animals are now doing. He gets a good measure of rest but the visits have not abated. To manage the numbers, he has a weekly program drawn for him as they did while he was in the Villa.”
Shehu said the former President receives myriads of “special guests” which includes party faithful, grassroots groups, farmers, artisans, artists, praise singers, nurses and doctors, religious leaders, community leaders and several other professionals.
Shehu also said critics have refused to acknowledge to acknowledge the achievements of Buhari when he was in power.
“There has not been a single area that had not been touched by the Buhari government. We have seen massive positive changes in the last eight years but as they say, the one who is pretending to be asleep is harder to wake up than the one who is actually sleeping.

“Bullies who attacked governments and “something dropped” will continue to antagonize Buhari borne of anger from lost opportunities. A certain Buhari “critic” who served a Military Governor in one of the Northern States, even his underwear was bought from government coffers. When they came in they freed thieves, robbers and receivers of stolen goods and even gave them a working capital.

“Within a few weeks, crime returned to Kaduna, and yes, the other places and he has the effrontery to speak as he did. This society has no use for such squalid nonsense!

“President Tinubu, a wise politician, will equally see through their masquerade. Muhammadu has done his part and left. History will judge him, and fairly I think,” Shehu said.
