The legendary Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi delivered a stellar performance, scoring a hat trick as Argentina secured a commanding 6-0 victory over Bolivia in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
The 37-year-old who had three goals and two assists for his side on Tuesday night said he just wanted to enjoy every moment while recognising the end of his career is close.
After the slaughtering of Bolivia, the fans at the Monumental de Nuñez Stadium were enjoying themselves as they chanted Messi’s name, making him emotional.
“It is very nice to play here feeling the affection of the Argentina fans,” the 2022 World Cup winner said.
“It makes me emotional to listen to how they shout my name.
“We all enjoy this connection with the fans and we love playing at home.”
When asked about a possible appearance at the 2026 World Cup in North America, he was discreet with his answer but just wants to enjoy his last days in football.
“I didn’t set any date or deadline about my future,”
“I’m just enjoying all this. I am more emotional than ever and taking all the love from the people because I know these can be my last games.”
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner finished the Tuesday game with his 10th hat trick equaling the record of his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo for the most hattrick at the international level.

As of the end of August 2024, the Nigerian Naira is one of the poorest-performing currencies in sub-Saharan Africa.
The World Bank disclosed this in its latest edition of Africa’s Pulse report.
Report showed that the Naira is at par with the Ethiopian Birr, and South Sudanese Pound in terms of decline in the region.
The report blamed the continued increase in the demand for dollars and limited dollar inflow for Naira depreciation in the last months.
According to the report, the Naira lost about 43 percent as of August.
“By August 2024, the Ethiopian birr, Nigerian naira, and South Sudanese pound were among the worst performers in the region.
“The Nigerian naira continued losing value, with a year-to-date depreciation of about 43 percent as of end-August.
“Surges in demand for US dollars in the parallel market, driven by financial institutions, money managers, and non-financial end-users, combined with limited dollar inflows and slow foreign exchange disbursements to currency exchange bureaus by the central bank explain the weakening of the naira,” it said.
Recall that the Naira weakened significantly on Tuesday to N1658.97 per dollar from N1552.92 exchanged on Monday.
In the past months, the Naira has continued to fluctuate against the dollar in the foreign exchange market despite interventions by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Nigeria’s inflation rose to 32.70 percent in September from 32.15 percent recorded in August 2024.
Despite this, the World Bank’s Economic growth in Nigeria is projected at 3.3 percent in 2024 and 3.6 percent in 2025–26.

The biggest loser of the night was Megan Thee Stallion who came into Tuesday’s (Oct. 15) broadcast of the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards as the top nominee with 12 nominations, but left empty-handed.
The night’s biggest winner was Kendrick Lamar who scooped eight awards out of 11 nominations.
