Fuel Scarcity Worsens Despite PENGASSAN Strike Suspension

Fuel scarcity has continued to paralyse economic and social activities in Sokoto metropolis despite the suspension of the three-day strike embarked upon by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria.

The PUNCH, which monitored the situation across the city on Friday and Saturday, observed that most filling stations remained under lock and key, while the few dispensing fuel sold at inflated prices ranging between ₦960 and ₦970 per litre.

Even the NNPC retail outlets, numbering about seven within the metropolis, were not selling fuel, further compounding the hardship of motorists and residents.

At the black market, fuel now sells for as high as ₦1,250 per litre, or ₦6,000 for a four-litre gallon, as desperate motorists resort to roadside vendors to keep their vehicles running.

One of the motorists, Mallam Abba Umar, condemned the attitude of petrol marketers in the state, accusing them of deliberately hoarding the product to exploit residents.

“Most petrol marketers in Sokoto are very devilish and wicked. They have fuel but refuse to sell it during the day. They only open at night to sell between ₦960 and ₦970 per litre.

“This is unfair. The state government should intervene to save us from this hardship,” Umar lamented.

Another motorist, Mrs. Rukayyat Bello, who had been on queue since morning at a filling station along Gusau Road, decried the situation, saying it has made daily life unbearable.

“Transport fares have doubled, and everything in the market is going up because of this scarcity. It’s becoming too difficult for ordinary people to survive,” she said.

Recall that the current scarcity began shortly after the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers threatened to embark on an industrial action over unresolved issues with the Federal Government.

Although the strike was later averted, PENGASSAN eventually proceeded on a three-day strike, which disrupted fuel distribution nationwide.

Despite the suspension of the strike, normal supply is yet to resume in many parts of Sokoto.

Investigations revealed that several marketers now prefer to sell fuel secretly to black market operators, who resell at exorbitant rates, thereby making higher profits at the expense of the public.

The PUNCH reports that major roads in Sokoto remain deserted as many motorists have parked their vehicles due to a lack of fuel, while residents continue to call on the state government and relevant federal agencies to take urgent action to restore normal supply.

I Never Felt My Place Was In Church – Nigerian Singer, Johnny Drille Reveals

Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Johnny Drille, has reflected on his musical journey, revealing how he struggled to find acceptance within the church community despite beginning his career there.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the singer revealed that although he once served as a music director in church, he never truly felt his style of music belonged there.

“I didn’t feel like my music was predominantly in church. Every now and then, I get invited to churches to sing, which is kind of interesting,”
he said.

Johnny Drille also admitted that his transition from gospel to mainstream music came with backlash from some members of the Christian community.

“I’ve gotten a bit of backlash from my Christian community every now and then when they invite me to churches. But at the end of the day, the music is positive. It speaks to good things that sometimes the church doesn’t want to talk about,”
he explained.

He went on to criticise how churches often shy away from expressing love through music.

“The church shies away from talking about love. A lot of times you go for some Christian weddings and you hear Davido and Wizkid. What if the church decides that we want to start doing our own Christian love songs?” he said.

Reflecting on his early days, Johnny Drille said his time as a choir director helped shape his skills as a musician, even though he didn’t perform much at the time.

“There’s a place for worship music, right? But there’s also music about so much more that the church could be singing about. I was a music director, directing the choir, but I never really sang in front of the church. I think it helped me become the musician I am today in terms of my musicianship and performances,”
he added.

“And till today, they are still owing me two months salary, which is $26,000.

“A lot of people have asked me to take the NFF to court.

“But when they write it in the media, they will say ‘Oliseh takes Nigeria to court’. They won’t say ‘Oliseh takes NFF to court’.”

Why My Colleagues Are Envious Of Me – Nigerian Rapper, Odumodublvck

Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that several of his fellow artists are jealous of his success.

Odumodublvck insisted that the narrative that he is not lyrically gifted stemmed from jealousy.

He emphasised that he has achieved more international success than any Nigerian rapper despite claims that he is less talented than most of his colleagues.

The ‘Pity This Boy’ hitmaker claimed that some of his colleagues are jealous of him because he is both a rapper and singer.

Speaking in a recent episode of Toronto Ada’s Room podcast, Odumodublvck said, “In Nigeria, they say that my rap is not good but I’m the most featured rapper by international artists. I think it’s a thing of envy because I sing my hooks, my songs are hits and I get more bookings than them.

“The envy is deep especially when they think they are better. But we pay no mind to that. We just continue pushing for those that believe -let them continue to tune in. It’s very unfortunate for the people on the other side because this thing is not going to stop soon.”

He challenged his colleagues who are claiming that they are better than him to sell more records and shows to prove that they are the better rappers.

Those Remaining In PDP Are Undertakers Waiting To Bury Dying Party – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing its remaining members as “undertakers preparing to bury a dying party.”

Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos, Mr Seye Oladejo, made the remark in a statement issued on Saturday in reaction to a fresh wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling party.

Oladejo urged the PDP to stop dismissing what he described as “a mass exodus” from its ranks, warning that the opposition party was only deceiving itself by downplaying the scale of its internal collapse.

“The PDP’s claim that defections cannot weaken it is laughable and exposes the party’s chronic state of denial, delusion, and self-deception,”
Oladejo said.

“What we are witnessing is not ordinary political migration but the inevitable outcome of years of deceit, lack of ideology, and betrayal among its own leaders. When a house is built on quicksand, it only takes a tremor to bring it down.”

The APC spokesman described the ongoing defections as proof that even loyal PDP members had lost faith in a party that had “refused to reform or present a credible alternative to Nigerians”.

“Those still clinging to the PDP are merely undertakers, staying behind to perform the final rites and dispose of what remains of a once-dominant but now lifeless political entity,”
he added.

Oladejo said the APC was not surprised by the defections, noting that the opposition party had relied for years on propaganda and empty promises.

He accused the PDP of mismanaging the country during its 16-year rule, saying it could not suddenly reinvent itself as a credible opposition “when it remains mired in confusion and leadership crises.”

“The recent defection of key PDP figures to the APC reflects growing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,”
Oladejo stated.

“It’s time for the PDP to learn to walk alone on its long, dark road to 2027. The party’s glory days are gone, and the sooner it accepts that reality, the less humiliating its final exit will be.”

He advised the opposition to conduct an honest post-mortem of its failures and accept that its influence in Nigeria’s political landscape had drastically faded.

“The defections are not just political victories for the APC; they are clear endorsements of our commitment to progress, stability, and people-centred leadership.

Nigerians are speaking loudly, the era of deceitful opposition politics is over,” Oladejo added.

You Can’t Tell Me How To Grieve – Phyna Opens Up On Partying After Sister’s Burial

Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, the Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, who is popularly known as Phyna, has broken her silence following the wave of criticism she received for partying shortly after her sister’s burial.

Phyna, who lost her younger sister Ruth Otabor in an accident involving a Dangote truck in August and laid her to rest in September, recently came under fire on social media after a video surfaced of her clubbing alongside Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.

The viral clip triggered backlash from some users who accused the reality TV star of being insensitive and moving on too quickly so soon after her loss.

While Regina Daniels had earlier defended her, urging the public to stop judging others for how they grieve, Phyna had not commented on the matter until now.

Taking to her X account, the outspoken media personality shared an emotional message addressing the controversy and emphasizing that mourning is a deeply personal experience.

“Grief has no manual, no fixed face, and no timetable. The fact that I choose to keep living, smiling, or sharing moments does not erase the pain I carry.

“Respect the process, even if you do not understand it. If you cannot extend compassion, then at least extend silence,” she said.

Democracy Is Now Gradually Becoming Dictatorship – Shehu Sani Blows Hot

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central lawmaker, has lamented that advanced democracy is gradually becoming dictatorship.

In a post on his verified X handle on Saturday, the human rights activist said people are being threatened and sacked from their jobs for exercising their freedom of speech on the social media.

The ex-senator, who accused the system of intimidating and silencing members of the legislature, decried that freedom was in reverse gear, adding that the world may be tired of democracy.

“Everything happening in dictatorships is now gradually happening in the most advanced democracy; punishing universities for permitting protests, disobeying and disrespecting judges as well as witch-hunting political opponents and arraigning them in court on concocted charges.

“Thinking of constitutional amendments for presidential tenure extension, deploying troops without following due process and harassment of the media,” he wrote.

I’m Like A Father To BBNaija Winner, Imisi – Nigerian Actor, Yomi Fabiyi Says

Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Yomi Fabiyi, has clarified that his public support for Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, was driven by genuine loyalty and gratitude, rather than personal interest or financial gain.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi said his relationship with Imisi predates her reality TV fame, describing himself as a “father figure” to the young star within the movie industry.

“I am an adult and like a father to her in the film industry. She was the only housemate I knew personally. Everything I do, she supports.

“For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well. Supporting her during the show was simply the right thing to do,” he explained.

Fabiyi also revealed that Imisi’s entertainment journey began under his mentorship at his film academy.

“Imisi was one of my students at my film academy, and beyond that, she has always been supportive of me and my son. We used to live in the same area in Ikorodu, and she’s been helpful long before the fame,”
he said.

When asked whether he had any fears about showing support for her, given that some people he once helped had turned against him, the actor noted that he does not allow such experiences to influence his actions.

“I don’t think about things like that. Of course, in today’s social media world, some people distance themselves from those who helped them just to appear self-made. They don’t want anyone to have bragging rights over their success,”
he said.

Fabiyi, however, emphasized that he remains unbothered by such behavior.

“No matter the level of ingratitude, I don’t let it get to me. I’ll keep doing what’s right.”
