Undergraduates Can Take UTME But Must Declare Status – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has stated that candidates who are already enrolled in tertiary institutions may register for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry, but must formally declare their matriculation status, otherwise, they risk losing both admissions.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Board’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, who said the directive had been misrepresented by individuals he described as “self-styled education advocates,” leading to confusion among candidates and parents.

“The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has been drawn to a misleading and unfortunate distortion of a portion of the board’s clear directives to candidates registering for the 2026 UTME/DE, as contained in the 2026 UTME/DE advertisement.

“This deliberate misrepresentation is being propagated by some unscrupulous self-styled education advocates for parochial interests,”Benjamin said.

He noted that such misinterpretations often emerge at the start of every registration cycle, accusing some commentators of spreading false narratives without properly understanding the guidelines.

“Many of them do not take the time to read or properly understand the guidelines, yet hastily rush to the public space with false narratives aimed solely at attracting traffic to their social media platforms,” he said.

Benjamin stressed that registering for UTME or DE while still enrolled in another institution is not prohibited, but failing to disclose that status is considered an offence under JAMB regulations.

“For the avoidance of doubt and for record purposes, and in line with its statutory mandate to prevent multiple matriculations, the board directed that all candidates registering for the 2026 UTME/DE must disclose their matriculation status, where applicable,” he said.

He added, “It is not an offence for a candidate to register for the UTME/DE while still enrolled in an institution. However, failure to disclose such a status constitutes an offence.

“Disclosure simply means that once a candidate secures admission through the latest registration, the former admission automatically ceases to subsist. The law is explicit that no candidate is permitted to hold two admissions concurrently.”

According to Benjamin, the policy has become more critical following discoveries that some already-matriculated students have been involved in examination malpractice as hired test takers.

“Mandatory disclosure, therefore, expedites appropriate action whenever such candidates are apprehended,” he said.

While noting that JAMB’s systems are capable of detecting previous matriculation records, he warned that candidates who fail to make the required disclosure could forfeit both their existing admission and any new one obtained through the examination process.

“The board, therefore, urges the public to be cautious of these so-called education advocates who are perpetually eager to mislead candidates and parents for selfish gain.

“Members of the public are advised to carefully read official guidelines and avoid accepting distorted interpretations wholesale,” he added.

JAMB also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its examinations.

The board had earlier announced that registration for the 2026 UTME began on January 26, adding that only Computer-Based Test centres with facilities that allow remote monitoring would be permitted to participate.

It said the policy, tagged “No Vision, No Registration, No UTME,” is aimed at reducing registration irregularities and strengthening confidence in the examination process.

Aderombi Adedayo, a former Big Brother Naija housemate and comedian, who is popularly known as Dee One, has revealed that he has been invited by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force for a routine interview.

Deeone made this known in a post shared on X on Thursday, where he read out the content of the police invitation letter addressed to him.

According to the letter signed by the Commissioner of Police, Force Intelligence Department, the invitation is part of an ongoing inquiry and is described as a fact-finding interview.

The letter directed Deeone to report to the FID Annex Office, Lagos, through the OCCIOS team.

He noted that while opinions have varied, he does not regret making the video and insists that he did nothing wrong.

He stated that he would not apologise if the invitation is linked to his comments, which he described as his personal views expressed as a Nigerian citizen.

“I saw something strange that happened in Turkey involving our President, our dear President, and I shared my views as an ordinary Nigerian. If this invitation is about the video I posted yesterday, I have received many calls and heard different opinions. Some people said Deeone was cyberbullying, that I should not have mentioned the President’s son or spoken about the President.”

I Quashed My Beef With AKA Before His Death – Burna Boy Reveals

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has disclosed that he and late South African rapper AKA settled their differences before his death.

The duo fell apart in 2019 after Burna Boy threatened to “deal” with AKA if they ever met.

This came after the South African rapper reportedly encouraged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South African after sharing screenshots of hate messages he allegedly received from Nigerian accounts over AFCON quarterfinal match banter.

Burna Boy has now revealed that they quashed their beef before the rapper passed on.

In a posthumous birthday message to the late rapper via his Instagram page, Burna Boy, however, regretted that AKA passed away before they could execute some of their plans and collaborations.

Burna Boy wrote, “Happy birthday Supa Mega. We fell out over bullsh*t even though we squashed it over Twitter DMs nobody knew about, we never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do.

“I will regret that until I see you again. Until then, R.I.P Mega.”

Recall that AKA was shot dead by a gunman outside a restaurant in Durban on 10 February, 2023.

The trial into his murder is still ongoing.

Nigerian Security Agents Are Impersonating Nnamdi Kanu On Social Media – Family Raises Alarm

The family of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has sounded the alarm over what it claims is the impersonation of the pro-Biafra activist on social media by agents of the Nigerian government.

A statement released on Thursday by Prince Emmanuel Kanu, on behalf of the Okwu-Kanu family, said several accounts have been opened in Nnamdi Kanu’s name especially on Facebook and Instagram, seeking engagement with members of the public.

The family warned that the fake accounts are being used to spread disinformation to damage the reputation of Kanu and IPOB, and also target his supporters for possible victimization.

Stressing that Kanu does not have any social media account since his incarceration, the statement read, “The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), hereby issues this urgent public safety warning to the general public.

“It has come to our attention that fraudulent social media accounts, particularly on Facebook and Instagram, are impersonating Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. These fake pages — often using official-looking logos, claiming locations such as Nairobi or Sokoto, and posting misleading updates — are not associated with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB, or the Kanu family in any way.

“Since his illegal rendition and detention in June 2021, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has had no active or verified online presence on any social media platform. He does not operate Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, or any other profiles posting personal messages, location updates, or soliciting engagement.

“These impostor pages are part of a sustained deceptive operation, believed to be orchestrated by Nigerian security agencies and their collaborators. Their objectives include: harvesting your personal information, contacts, and data from unsuspecting followers and likers.

“Spreading disinformation to damage the reputation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB. Provoking or monitoring genuine supporters for potential harassment, surveillance, and arrest.”

Warning against any interaction with the said social media accounts, the statement added, “We strongly advise the public as follows: Do not follow, like, comment on, share, or engage with any such fake pages.

“Immediately unlike and unfollow any suspicious account claiming to represent Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Report these fraudulent pages to the platforms as impersonation/scam accounts. Rely solely on verified IPOB channels, primarily through official handles and trusted media affiliates such as Radio Biafra.”

According to the family, anyone who choses to interact with the fake pages does so at their own risk.

“Exposure of personal details could lead to severe consequences in the current climate of repression against the Biafran struggle.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains committed to the peaceful, non-violent pursuit of self-determination for Biafrans. We will continue to expose these dirty tactics and call for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,”the statement added.

Nigerian Actress, Angela Okorie Arrested Over Alleged Cybercrime Case Involving Colleague, Mercy Johnson

Angela Okorie, the popular Nollywood actress, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre in connection with an alleged cybercrime case involving her colleague, Mercy Johnson.

Nigerian filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi made the news known on his Instagram page.

The actress was said to have been picked up at her residence in Lagos.

After her arrest, she was taken to Yaba Panti, where she spent the night because there was no available flight to Abuja at that time.

Reports say she was later placed on an early morning flight to the Federal Capital Territory, where she is expected to appear in court in connection with the matter involving Mercy Johnson.

The development comes after years of public tension between both actresses.

Angela Okorie and Mercy Johnson have been involved in repeated online clashes, with accusations and counterclaims shared on social media platforms.

At different times, Angela had spoken about feeling hurt and reacting from emotional pain.

She once admitted that some of her past words were said out of anger and personal struggles, saying that she had reflected on her actions and expressed regret over how things played out.

Despite this, the conflict later resurfaced online.

Angela made several statements against Mercy Johnson, including spiritual and personal allegations.

The alleged cybercrime case is believed to be connected to those online exchanges, which reportedly drew the attention of law enforcement authorities.
