How Criminals Hide Behind Tinted Vehicles To Commit Crimes – Police

As the Nigeria Police Force begins enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit regulation, the Borno State Police Command has revealed that armed robbers, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and terrorists now use tinted vehicles to carry out their criminal operations.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said this in a statement released on Saturday, October 4. He mentioned that the use of tinted car windows to perpetuate crime was uncovered through Crime Frequency Data.

“Through our Crime Frequency Data, evidence has shown that tinted vehicles have frequently been used to conceal or facilitate serious crimes. Armed robbers, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and terrorists have all taken advantage of tinted glasses to hide their identities or illicit objects” Daso said

He highlighted recent examples to show the dangers posed by unchecked tinted windows.

“One stark example is the m#rder of a University of Maiduguri lecturer on April 2, 2024. After assailants whisked away his vehicle, investigators turned to CCTV footage. The car was visible, but the suspects’ faces were impossible to identify because the windows were heavily tinted, delaying justice at a critical stage,” he explained.

Daso also recalled a separate tragedy on September 26, 2025, when three children suffocated inside a dark-tinted car after locking themselves in. He said passersby could not see them in time to intervene.

He stressed that regulation was necessary to strike a balance between public safety and legitimate personal use.

“Beyond these, countless cases link tinted vehicles to kidnappings, contraband movement, and armed robbery operations. Criminals exploit the anonymity that dark glass provides. Failing to regulate it leaves law enforcement handicapped and the public vulnerable” he said

The police spokesman clarified that exemptions exist, noting that factory-fitted tinted windows, some VIPs, and individuals with medical conditions such as photophobia will not be affected.

“Contrary to misperceptions, the Police are not imposing a blanket ban on tinted vehicles. Legitimate exemptions exist” he said

Daso explained that owners of tinted vehicles would now be required to register and secure permits.

“This digital process captures biometric information, NIN, and full vehicle details, creating a verifiable database that strengthens investigations. When a tinted vehicle is linked to a crime, authorities can trace its owner swiftly,” he stated.

He assured citizens that the system would not be used to vilify Nigerians.

“The reality is simple: tinted vehicles without proper accountability undermine security. The tragic cases of Maiduguri, alongside countless other incidents nationwide, prove that failure to regulate tinted glass can cost lives.

The Nigeria Police Force has made its position clear: officers must act professionally, respect citizens’ rights, and avoid exploitation. Commands have been directed to enforce accountability mechanisms, and citizens are encouraged to report unprofessional conduct through the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) for prompt action,” he added.

I Never Linked Buhari to Boko Haram, Trending Reports Are Misleading – Goodluck Jonathan Clarifies

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has clarified that he did not accuse former President Muhammadu Buhari in his recent remarks concerning Boko Haram’s activities in Nigeria.

Jonathan, in a statement on Saturday, said certain reports in the media suggesting that he alleged that Boko Haram nominated the late President Buhari to represent them in dialogue with the federal government, and therefore, somehow complicit in the Boko Haram crisis, are misleading.

He submitted that his comments on Buhari and Boko Haram were grossly misinterpreted.

Recall that Jonathan spoke on Friday in Abuja at the public presentation of “Scars,” a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.).

His comments, however, have attracted a series of backlash.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan, however, clarified that he was referring to the deceitful nature of the insurgents in his speech.

He explained that Boko Haram often invoked the names of respected public figures to sow confusion, exploit political divisions, and undermine public confidence in government.

The statement added that Jonathan’s comments were not an accusation against the late former president or any other individual.

It reads, “The attention of the Office of Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been drawn to misleading reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that Dr. Jonathan alleged that Boko Haram nominated the late President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to represent them in dialogue with the Federal Government, and therefore this made him somehow complicit in the Boko Haram crisis.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that the former President’s comments were grossly misrepresented. At no time did Dr. Jonathan suggest, imply, or insinuate that President Buhari had any connection with Boko Haram or that he supported the group in any form.

“Dr. Jonathan’s remarks, made in the course of a broader discussion on Nigeria’s security challenges, were meant to illustrate the deviousness and manipulative strategies employed by Boko Haram in their early years. His reference was to a well-documented episode when various individuals and factions falsely claimed to represent the terrorist group and purported to name prominent Nigerians as possible mediators: without those individuals’ knowledge or consent.

“The point Dr. Jonathan sought to make was that Boko Haram, in its characteristic deceit, often invoked the names of respected public figures to sow confusion, exploit political divisions, and undermine public confidence in government. His comments were therefore an illustration of the group’s duplicity, not an accusation against the late former president or any individual for that matter.

“The former president’s position was that if indeed Buhari was their choice negotiator, why didn’t Boko Haram expeditiously bring their evil terrorist agenda to an end when the retired General became president?

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Jonathan recognizes that President Muhammadu Buhari, like every patriotic Nigerian, stood firmly against terrorism and was himself a target of Boko Haram violence. Both men, during their respective tenures, shared a common commitment to restoring peace and stability to Nigeria.

“The Office of the Former President therefore urges the public to disregard any misinterpretation of his remarks. Dr. Jonathan remains committed to peace, unity, and the strengthening of democratic values in Nigeria. He believes that the nation’s progress depends on a truthful understanding of its challenges, not on the distortion of facts for political or sensational purposes.”

I Inherited Islam From My Family, But My Wife Is A Pastor – President Tinubu Preaches Peace In Plateau

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday stressed the importance of religious tolerance, urging Nigerians to promote unity and peaceful coexistence across the nation.

Using a personal example, President Tinubu drew an inference from his family, noting that despite inheriting and practising Islam, he is married to a pastor and they live together happily.

The President, who spoke in Jos at the burial programme of the late Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, appealed to the residents of Plateau State and Nigerians as a whole to shun religious and ethnic differences.

“I inherited Islam from my family; I didn’t change, but my wife is a pastor, and she prays for me at all times.

“I have never convinced or converted her; I believe in the freedom of religion.

“We are praying and answerable to the same Almighty God. We will account to Him for our deeds and character.

“So, our love for others is what matters; we must learn to live together as one people,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Yilwatda described his late mother as a dedicated, committed and loving wife who dedicated her life to the service of humanity.

“She was a strong, loyal and determined woman; she led an exemplary lifestyle full of sacrifice and humility.

“My parents, particularly my mother, lived for others; whatever I give her, she shares it with our neighbours.

“That is the woman that we are celebrating today,” he said.

BBNaija Is A Waste Of Time – Disqualified Housemate, Faith Says

Before his disqualification from the BBNaija show on Thursday evening, Faith had reportedly contemplated a voluntary exit, describing the reality show as “a waste of time.”

He was disqualified from the show after a physical altercation with fellow housemate Sultana during a skincare task rehearsal.

The disqualification, which happened days before the much-anticipated grand finale, has sparked mixed reactions from housemates and viewers alike.

Faith’s exit adds to a growing list of housemates who have been shown the door for breaking house rules.

In 2019, Tacha was disqualified after a clash with Mercy, who herself was penalised with strikes. Erica’s 2020 exit came after repeated infringements and confrontations, while Beauty Tukura was thrown out of the Level Up season in 2022 after a series of offences.

Rice, Saka on target as Arsenal hammer West Ham 2-0 in Arteta’s 300th game

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were on target as Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 win over West Ham, marking Mikel Arteta’s 300th game in charge in style.

The Gunners maintained their impressive start to the season, having lost just once so far.

Arteta opted for an attacking lineup featuring Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Eberechi Eze in midfield, showcasing Arsenal’s depth after their £250 million summer outlay.

Rice punishes former club

Odegaard’s early injury, his third in as many home matches, forced an adjustment, with Rice moving into a more advanced role.

The England international made it count, reacting sharply to finish after Eze’s effort was parried by Alphonse Areola.

Arsenal dominated possession throughout, with West Ham limited to long-range attempts as they struggled to contain the hosts’ fluid attack.

Saka marks milestone in style

The win was sealed in the second half when Jurrien Timber was fouled by El Hadji Malick Diouf, allowing Saka to calmly convert from the spot.

The goal, on his 200th Premier League appearance, took his tally to 55 goals and 45 assists.

The result sent Arsenal top of the Premier League table, leapfrogging Liverpool ahead of their clash with Chelsea.
