Tech Gurus, Influencers Doing More Harm Against Nigerian Music Industry – Erigga

Nigerian rapper, Erigga has pointed accusing fingers at tech gurus and influencers in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
According to him, they are impacting the industry negatively.
The rapper claimed that quality of music started declining after tech gurus replaced traditional A&R experts in sourcing and grooming talents.
He explained that the tech gurus unlike A&R experts, are more focused on trendy artists because they are more considered about numbers and not talented artists or quality music.
“Everything begin spoil when the Tech Bros enter music come replace actual A&Rs wey know talents, wey know how to nurture and groom talents.

“Tech guys don’t care about the music, what they care about is numbers and the metric with which to get these numbers. They can’t actually scout talents. So, what they do is scout momentum. It’s not like they really care about the artist, they care about the momentum. So, when the momentum drops, they go to the next person.

“With the entrance of tech gurus, people no longer chase talents anymore, but numbers,” the rapper expressed.
Erigga also expressed concern over the divided and short attention span plaguing the music business currently due to the activities of social media influencers.
“Back then, an artist’s competition used to be his fellow musicians. But right now, you fit just drop one hot track like this, next thing – GehGeh and VeryDarkMan don dey fight and the public attention will move from your song to their saga,” he lamented.

Yahoo Boys Have Killed Romance in Nigeria – Erigga

Nigerian rapper, Erigga has called out internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys.
He alleged that fraudsters have contributed significantly to the transactional nature of relationship in the Nigerian society nowadays.
He stated this while speaking in an interview with Yanga FM Lagos.

“Yahoo boys don kill romance. [Genuine] romance no longer exists. When last did you see two lovers holding hands together in the street? It has been long we saw such. The problem now, is that we are raising weak men who feel their entire value is in their pockets,” he expressed.
“Nowadays, relationship is expensive. It used to be meat pie, Mr Biggs Fanta, very affordable back then. And the women were very appreciative. But men also share in the blame, weak men are the ones who set the standards -women took and raised the bars.”

The music star, who owns the radio station, recounted how his journey to success began after a life-changing accident in 1997.
“I worked at Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, producing jingles. I used the money I earned to buy a Beetle car, and on my way to Abeokuta in 1997, I had a terrible accident. That incident changed my life completely,” he said.
He explained that Fresh FM started as a live-streaming project on Facebook, which became popular among fans abroad before evolving into a licensed radio station.

Why Nigerian Musicians Charge High Fees For Performance – Bella Shmurda

Singer, Bella Shmurda, has revealed why Nigerian artistes charge high fees for performances.
According to him, the reason is because of the high fees musicians spend on expenditures.
Speaking in a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, Bella Shmurda explained that musicians pay a lot of people who work with them behind the scene from their performance fees.
He also cited high cost of music production and promotion as well as expensive lifestyles as parts of the reasons.

“Speaking from the perspectives of an artiste, making music is expensive. I don’t repeat clothes because I’m a public figure. I spent $100,000 to pay producers, songwriters and engineers that worked on my album. That’s over N100 million. Not to mention music videos and promotion costs. That’s a lot.

“So, I go for a show, I would charge what would equate my investments. Even if I don’t make profit, I should a least be able to recover the cost of production. So, we are not overcharging. If you look at it from our own perspective, you will agree that we are not overcharging,” he explained.
