FG Celebrates Toyin Abraham As ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Hits N1bn In Nigerian Cinemas

The Nigerian government has applauded actress Toyin Abraham after her latest movie, Oversabi Aunty, grossed ₦1 billion at the Nigerian box office.

The movie which was released December 19, 2025, grossed N1 billion on Monday.

Reacting to Toyin Abraham’s achievement, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Film Corporation, described the new record as “as another strong signal of progress for the nation’s creative economy”.

The Corporation in a statement shared by its managing director, Ali Nuhu, said: “This achievement places Ms. Abraham in the prestigious league of filmmakers whose works have not only connected culturally with audiences but have also demonstrated strong commercial viability in an increasingly competitive cinema market.

“Oversabi Aunty is a clear example of how locally rooted stories, when properly produced, and strategically marketed, can achieve extraordinary reach and impact. The film’s success reflects a deep understanding of the Nigerian audience, a strong distribution strategy, and the growing cinema-going culture across the country.”

Also, celebrating her achievement, the actress in an Instagram post, appreciated her fans and the general public for their support.

Reality show star Mercy Eke has shocked actress, Toyin Abraham by gifting her N1 million at Toke Makinwa’s recent baby dedication.
Recall that the media personality over the weekend, dedicated her daughter Yaya in church.
She also hosted a party for the special occasion.
A video captured the moment Mercy Eke gifted Toyin the money.
It happened that Toyin approached Mercy and pointed at the cash in her hand.
She whispered something to the former Big Brother Naija housemate, and Mercy handed over the cash.
Mercy Eke also whispered a few words to Toyin, who opened her mouth wide as she checked the pile of cash in her hands.

Why I Can’t Speak Edo Language Despite Being From Auchi – Toyin Abraham

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has opened up on why she cannot speak her native Edo language.
The actress who hails from Auchi in Edo State revealed why she can’t speak the language while speaking with Tiktoker, Jarvis during the movie premiere of Ginger.
TikToker Jarvis had praised her fluency in Yoruba.
Toyin explained that Yoruba has become her main language since she was born and raised in Yoruba land and is also married to a Yoruba man.
She added that she cannot speak a word of Edo but understands and speaks Yoruba perfectly.
She said: “Yoruba is like my major language. I can’t speak Edo.
 
You know I was born and brought up in Yoruba land. And I married a Yoruba man. So I’m practically Yoruba. I can’t even speak Edo. One bit . But there’s no Yoruba I can’t speak”
 
Toyin Abraham, born in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, had her early life and education in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Her father, Pastor B. E. Aimakhu, was from Edo, while her mother was also said to be from the same state.
Despite her Edo background, she grew up deeply connected to Yoruba culture.
She attended Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and later studied at Ibadan Polytechnic before fully pursuing a career in acting.

She made the call amid the recent pump price hike.

The actress, who is a firm supporter of the Tinubu-led administration took to her Instastories, crying out to her Maker for help.

She noted that she needs God more than ever as whatever she is going through is way beyond her imagination.

Actress Toyin Abraham Reportedly Arrests X User Who Wished Death on Her Son

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham has allegedly had a social media user on X arrested.
The individual was reportedly arrested for wishing death on the actress’ son.

According to a source close to the user, the authorities were contacted, and the user was arrested four days ago.

The police reportedly came from Lagos to apprehend the individual.
The user had tweeted, “So na you dey promise good governance on behalf of Nigeria? Onijere seh. Your son go kpai soon” (meaning “Your son will die soon”).
He added, “Use me as first scapegoat.”
Toyin Abraham responded, “Okay then, since you say I should use you, then your wish is my command.”
Reactions to the arrest have been mixed. Some have praised Toyin Abraham’s action, while others have criticized her response.
“Well, she did good. It’s okay to come for her, which is not even necessary. What is joy is cursing her. That’s extreme,” wrote Tiwa Topeh.

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham has commended organizers of the 2024 African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
According to her, they did a great job.
Recall that the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards took place on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.
In a now-deleted post, the actress and filmmaker shared a photo of Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, praising her for orchestrating the awards impeccably. She asserted that this was the most exceptional and authentic AMVCA to date.

Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi clashed with some street touts who attempted to cause havoc at her movie set.

The actress who would not accept any interference with her job, bravely confronted the area boys who stormed into her movie set to cause commotion.

The resolute actress during a heated discussion confronted the goons and questioned whether she was not permitted to film in Lagos.

She boldly told the area boys in a viral video that she would not tolerate them damaging her set while threatening to pursue legal action.

Toyin unexpectedly took the initiative to offer the invaders ₦10,000 in an attempt to mediate the situation. However, the local boys refused to back down and urged the actress for a larger payment.

I’m World’s Best Actress – Toyin Abraham Boasts

Toyin Abraham, the popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker,  has boasted that she is the world’s “best”.

Speaking in an interview with skit maker, Bae U Barbi, she explained that the title wasn’t a self-proclaimed one, stressing that fans gave her the title.

She said the title of “world best” suits her because her acting and beauty are top-notch.

Abraham said, “I didn’t call myself [the world’s best actress], people called me word best because I am the world’s best.

“My confidence is top-notch, my beauty is top-notch, my brain is top-notch, my acting is top-notch. So, I am world best. I didn’t call myself, they [fans] called me and I claimed it.”

The actress also admitted during the interview that the entertainment industry favours women more than men.

According to her, female entertainers are more successful than their male counterparts because they are “very emotional”.

She added that her latest film, ‘Malaika’ is her most expensive movie, saying she paid veteran actor, Emeka Ike and others millions to feature in the movie.

Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham and colleague, Femi Adebayo have mourned the passing of singer, Mohbad.
In separate posts on social media, the stars expressed sadness over Mohbad’s passing.
Recall that Mohbad died last Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday at Ikorodu, Lagos, amid controversies surrounding his death.
Taking to her Instagram page to pay her last respects to the singer, Toyin Abraham on Sunday wrote, “I was in denial, I couldn’t use the ‘was’ for you Imole. I really want to wake up from the dream. I can’t forget the memories on my movie set ‘Ghost and the Tout’ and how you showed a level of humility that is lacking in some of your peers.
 
“Just as your name, Your light shone so brightly I can’t really believe it’s gone. Your death has opened a lot of shocking, complex, and unbelievable underlying stories that sound so hard to let go.
 
“Though we can’t have you back but total justice for you may start the healing process. The necessary government parastatals need to do their job.”
 
Also, paying tribute, Femi Adebayo on his official X, noted that the late singer lived up to his name ‘Imole’ by shining brightly briefly before his exit.
“In memory of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba Mohbad, a star whose musical brilliance graced the world. Though your life was tragically cut short, your music remains a testament to your resilience and artistry. “Imole,” meaning “Light” in Yoruba, was your name, and you lived up to it by illuminating the lives of many.
