“There were rumors back then that Samuel Doe’s money caused a fight between IBB and Abiola, this made the former Head of State refuse to give him the presidency.”

Seun Kuti also disclosed that Dele Giwa was killed because he was planning to expose a wealthy Nigerian drug dealer.

He added: “It was alleged that Dele Giwa was about to expose a big man in Nigeria for selling drugs. The best hard drugs in this Lagos are sold in Island, children of the rich are selling it.

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has made a boast on social media.

I’m The Frontman Of Africa’s Most Successful Band – Seun Kuti Boasts

Seun Kuti, the famous Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician, has made a bold claim about the Egypt 80 band, the band which he inherited from Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, his late father and Afrobeat pioneer.

In a recent interview with City 105.1 FM, Kuti claimed that Egypt 80 is Africa’s most successful band, boasting about his important position in society as the frontman of the band.

He said he shares his opinions freely without fear because he can’t be threatened by culture, adding that the media and African award organizers were already overlooking his music.

Kuti said, “I won’t stop speaking my mind because I’m no longer afraid of anything you’re going to do. What are you going to do? You’re not going to play my videos? Are you not already doing this? So what are you going to do?

“Even when I got nominated for the Grammys, no award organization in the whole of Africa nominated my band in any category, knowing fully well that no matter what anybody says about me, I, Seun, am the frontman for Africa’s most successful band. 54 albums. By the time I drop my next album, it will be 55 albums.

“The band that I lead is an African musical institution. If we knew what we were doing in Africa, it would go without saying that this band should be given some kind of national recognition to keep them in the forefront of the psyche of African people all over the world, to know that Africans can achieve institutions like this. But well, that is for an African who knows what he’s doing.”

VDM: Come And Arrest Me Too – Seun Kuti to Iyabo Ojo

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has reacted after he was called out by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.
Iyabo Ojo had slammed Kuti for being among those enabling controversial self-styled social media activist, VeryDarkMan, to constitute a nuisance online.
Kuti dared the actress to arrest him.
Kuti denied being a “confusionist,” claiming that Ojo was “an oppressor.” According to him, he was only against Ojo arresting VDM and not their social media fight.
Speaking in a video message shared via his Instagram account, Kuti said, “I’m not a confusionist. And there was no time I opposed you fighting VeryDarkMan. I only said you shouldn’t be locking people up.

“If you’re angry I said you shouldn’t use the police to oppress people, please, don’t be angry. Continue to be an oppressor. Use the police to arrest everyone. In fact, come and arrest me too. You guys are the billionaires, the owners of Nigeria, if you get angry, everywhere will explode. So don’t be angry.

“I apologise for myself and on behalf of VeryDarkMan. Please, don’t flex your power. [Hisses] Nonsense!”
Recall that VeryDarkMan was recently questioned over allegations of cyberbullying.

Iyabo Ojo Politicised Mohbad’s Death as Movement Against Naira Marley – Seun Kuti

Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has made an accusation against Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo.
He claimed Iyabo Ojo politicised the death of Nigerian singer, Mohbad, as a movement against his former record label boss, Naira Marley.

He made the allegations while reacting to Ojo’s claims that he is “confusing” the youth for saying controversial self-styled social media activist, VeryDarkMan is “a necessity.”
Kuti said he doesn’t believe Ojo’s activism was earned at getting justice for the late singer but targeted at Naira Marley.
Speaking in a video message shared via his Instagram account, the Afrobeat singer said: “I have watched your video, Iyabo [Ojo] but throughout the video you’re just talking about what VeryDarkMan did yet you said I was the one you were calling out.

“But there is one thing that I hold onto, you said I’m a confusionist confusing the youths. [Yoruba] This life is wicked. I’ve been on your podcast before because I bear you no grudge. I bear you no ill will. I stand personal beef. But when it’s political… It was you guys who politicised the death of Mohbad.

“You politicised his death. And I don’t believe you guys politicised his death because you were looking for justice because now what’s the findings? Did you accept the government’s findings? I read somewhere that the government said Mohbad died of substance abuse. If you guys believe the government findings, what are we doing? Justice for what?

“I believe personally, it was a movement against Naira Marley at the end of the day. I don’t see anything other than that. You said we are fighting against bullying in the Nigerian society and 70-80 per cent of celebrities are cultists.

“These are gangs of bullies. Bullies bullying everybody yet everyone is their friend. The gangs constantly bully people and celebrities are their members.

“Everybody is a friend of these members, nobody called them out for associating with gangs even after what happened to Mohbad. What’s happening? Is there any movement against confraternities in Nigeria? Where is the movement for justice for Mohbad now?”

VeryDarkMan Is A Necessity – Seun Kuti Says

Seun Kuti, the famous, Grammy-nominated Afrobeat singer, has stated that the controversial self-styled social media activist, VeryDarkMan is “a necessity.”

He stated this while reacting to the ultimatum given to him and others by Music executive Paul Okoye, aka Paulo to disassociate themselves from VDM.

Recall that Paulo urged his associates including Seun Kuti who also associates with VDM to distance themselves from the controversial activist after he dragged his partner, actress Iyabo Ojo, claiming she wasn’t invited to Davido and Chioma’s wedding but to the after-party.

Reacting in a video message shared via his Instagram account, Kuti said Paulo cannot order him publicly.

“I have a good relationship with Paulo but that doesn’t give him the right to order me publicly. Even if Paulo has helped me, he can’t order me publicly. If he had called me on the phone, I would probably have cut ties with VDM by now. Because I don’t know how much the beef is worth to him,” he said.

“So that’s what I see in the relationship that we all have with ourselves in Nigeria. VDM for me is a necessity. VeryDarkMan is a necessity. Because he can do the personal. But I don’t know how to.

“VeryDarkMan can bring the people against the agents of corrupt politicians. Those people with the spirits of the politicians. Those politicians enablers who use their fame to bully the powerless.”

He added that “elders must earn respect.”

Nigerian Media Gave Burna Boy Credits For Records I Set – Seun Kuti Claims

Seun Kuti, the Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician, has made a new claim about Burna Boy.

He lamented that Burna Boy is erroneously being credited for records set by him and others in the Nigerian music industry.

He recalled that Burna Boy was widely reported as the first artiste to play in Coachella in 2020 despite his (Kuti’s) performance at the festival in 2012.

He also mentioned that before Burna Boy earned his first Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album with African Giant, his elder brother, Femi Kuti had received multiple nominations in the category.

Speaking in a recent interview with The Public Republic, Kuti lamented that his album ‘Black Times’ was nominated for Best World Music Album years ago but no African award organiser considered it for a nomination.

The controversial singer stated that despite earning another Grammy nomination for his contributions to Janelle Monae’s ‘Age of Pleasure,’ which was nominated in the Album of the Year category at the 2024 Grammys, the media didn’t mention him among the Nigerian artists nominated for the 66th Grammys.

“My brother [Femi Kuti] has been nominated at the Grammys multiple times. They’ve nominated me, I was also nominated in the last edition. It was only my name that they [Nigerian media] didn’t mention among the Nigerian artists who were nominated for the 66th Grammys. That’s what they do every time as if I’m from Togo.

“That’s how they said Burna boy was the first Nigerian artiste to play in Coachella in 2020 where me I’ve played in 2012 as if I’m from Togo,” he lamented.
