Mohbad: Primeboy Drags Nigerian Police To Court

A Nigerian singer, Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian Police Force for alleged abuse of his fundamental human rights.

Recall that, in 2023, the Nigerian Police had declared Primeboy wanted following his failure to honour a police invitation successfully sent to him since the commencement of the investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of popular singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.

However, in a brief statement to Punch on Thursday, Primeboy’s lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, said the singer was demanding the removal of his name from the wanted list, amongst other prayers.

The suit was filed before the Federal High Court, in the Ikoyi area of the state.

“Primeboy has sued the police via an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on October 11.

“He prayed to the court for a couple of reliefs, some of which included a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin issued by the office of the IGP declaring Primeboy wanted was a contravention of Primeboy’s right to respect for the dignity of his human person. Primeboy also prayed the court to delist his name from the wanted list amongst other prayers,” the statement read.

Following Mohbad’s death, Primeboy has found himself at the epic centre of the ensuing controversy.

He also surrendered himself to the police barely 24 hours after he was declared wanted.

Mohbad died on September 12 2023 at the age of 27, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

Mohbad: Naira Marley, Prime Boy, Others To Appear Before Coroner October 25

The coroner’s inquiry investigating the circumstances surrounding the demise of the singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has summoned the controversial artist Abdulazeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, as well as Owodunni Eletu, who goes by Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Primeboy. They are required to attend the inquiry on October 25, 2023.

At the inquest, Magistrate Sotobi Adedayo of the Candide Johnson Courthouse, Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Friday, October 13, 2023, instructed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, to ensure the presence of Naira Marley, Sam Larry and Primeboy at the next adjourned date slated for October 25, 2023. Marley and Larry are currently being detained at Panti.

The magistrate also called for cooperation in the investigation for speedy and fast justice delivery on the death of the singer, while advising that interested parties should not encourage delay in order for MohBad’s remains to be finally laid to rest.

This was even as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Yusuf, an investigating police officer attached to the homicide section of the SCID, stated that in the course of their investigation, there was no evidence beyond reasonable doubt that Naira Marley assaulted Mohbad, nor was there any evidence that Sam Larry and Naira Marley were linked with Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nurse who administered the injection to the deceased.

Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12, and on Friday, October 6, after weeks of investigation, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, announced that the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who injected Mohbad; his friend and fellow artiste, Ibrahim Owoduni, aka Prime Boy; and another friend, Ayobami Sadiq, were the prime suspects in the singer’s death.

He added that the police quizzed 26 people, while five suspects had so far been identified, arrested, detained and interrogated on their alleged roles in the sequence of events that led to the singer’s death. According to him, Ogedengbe administered three different injections, which are believed to have occasioned the chain of reactions that directly resulted in the death of the singer
