I’m A Golden Minister – Wike Boasts
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, referred to himself as a “golden minister.”
Wike said he was a governor when Rivers clocked 50 years and now he is a minister when the FCT will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year February.
The Minister disclosed this during the flagging off ceremony of the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka way) including road ILS 5 within Katampe District.
He noted that such a feat is an indication that God loves him, adding that nobody should be envious.
Wike said: “So please do all you can when Abuja would attain the golden age of 50 years, it’s done.
“Some of us have been very lucky. We are golden governors and now golden ministers, it’s not everybody that will be that lucky.
“Some of you were governors when your state was not up to 50 years, some were council chairmen when it did get up to that age but we became a governor when our state attained that golden jubilee and now we are minister when FCT will attain that golden jubilee. So you ask yourself, are we not so loved by God?
“Well you may sit on my seat but that does not mean you are loved specially like you are loved by God.”
On Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, described former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose as his elder brother.
Wike disclosed this at the flagging off ceremony of the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka way) including road ILS 5 within Katampe District.
According to Wike: “Fayose is my younger brother and I’m always happy anytime he comes to witness what his elder brother is doing.”
Fayose and Wike are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and were members of the G-5 Integrity Group.
They group worked against the victory of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has declared that he is a proud agent of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike described himself as one of the agents Tinubu is using to fix the problems Nigerians are facing due to bad governance in the past.
He spoke during the official flag-off of the construction of Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, Abuja.
The minister also urged Nigerians to continue to support Tinubu.
”Give support to who needs to do well, Tinubu is doing well and committed to improving the welfare of this country, is committed to see that this country gets to the level where it’s supposed to be.
”Yes, when you are coming from a bad period, you have been patient and patient and then now you require a miracle, that’s what we’re facing.
“You didn’t know that things were terribly bad.You knew that those were terribly bad but someone else has come to fix it. I know that you are impatient.
”I want to appeal to you to continue to be patient, you see how things will turn around. Mr President is working towards it through his agents like us.
”We are agents of Mr President and we are very proud agents, very proud indeed,” Wike said.
Tonye Cole, former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for maintaining ties with the ruling APC while still claiming membership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Featuring on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television on Friday, Cole said Wike should not confuse people about his political loyalty.
“Is he APC or is he PDP? As far as we know today, he is PDP.
“We cannot continue confusing the electorate in Rivers State and confusing Nigerians because it is dangerous for democracy, that you are in one party, you are controlling another party and we are trying to create a one-party state that is a mixture that nobody is clear about,” he said.
Recall that during electioneering for the 2023 presidential election, Wike campaigned for the presidency to move to the South, against his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who hails from the North.
The former Rivers State governor was later appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.
He has expressed support for the second-term bid of the President in different fora.
On August 30, the APC won 20 out of the 23 councils during the local government election in Rivers.
The PDP won in three councils, including Obio/Akpo, where Wike served as the chairman for two terms in 1999 before he rose to become a governor, serving in that position from 2015 to 2023.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has admitted that he is losing sleep over the need to deliver projects in the capital city and surrounding satellite towns.
Wike disclosed that the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, and former FCT Senator, Philip Aduda, have been on his neck on the need to carry out developmental projects across the capital city and its satellite towns.
The minister spoke on Wednesday during the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of Karu Road, from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, and other Karu township roads.
Mocking the FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe, Wike said getting the government to commit to developmental projects is not about “grammar” but relationship.
According to Wike: “When you have the opportunity to relate with your people, you relate with them well. It’s not grammar; grammar does not bring projects, it’s relationship with people.
“It’s not to say that I’m a senator and nobody is inviting me. What we are talking about is to bring something to the people, dividends of democracy.
“Senator Philip Aduda, who has been somebody of the people, so last night he came to me and said, ‘Sir, this is an opportunity. Now that you are doing this Karu dualisation, there are some other small roads, if you join them, it will open the whole of Karu.’ And so, because I know that he means well for his people and talks well about his people, I conceded to him.
“And so, the people of Karu, this is your turn and we will make sure you get the benefit that you are entitled to. We have added these other roads to the roads we are doing now.”
Wike promised that the FCT Administration will rebuild Customs Clinic Junction to CBN Quarter Junction, rebuild immediately Customs Clinic Junction to EFCC, rebuild NIA Quarters Road, rebuild Pasi Road, and also rebuild Primus Hospital Road.
The minister declared that the roads would boost business and economic activities around the Karu area.
He added: “Business opportunities will thrive here. We are not just doing these roads, they will have street lights, and I have ordered the contractor to complete them within 10 months.
“The essence of Renewed Hope Agenda is to bring back hope to the people. I will be coming here very often to inspect these projects because it’s one of the projects we have lined up that our people must enjoy during the third-year anniversary of Mr. President. Let Karu be the city that everybody will be talking about.”
Wike further charged residents to remember Maikalangu and Tinubu during elections following the execution of these projects.
“Now that the Renewed Hope Agenda and the government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fulfilling his promise, I hope that when the time comes we will also fulfill our own promise, no be so?
“I also hope that you will remember the man who does not allow me to sleep, Maikalangu. Remember him when the time comes,” he added.
