The Real Distraction Is Not DNA, Its Sam Larry, Naira Marley – VeryDarkMan Revisits Mohbad’s Case

Vincent Otse, the popular Nigerian social media critic, who is also known as VeryDarkMan, has revisited the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer Ileriouluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

Recall that Mohbad died on September 12 2023 under questionable circumstances and was buried the following day.

Since his passing, numerous efforts by his family, authorities, and other stakeholders to uncover the truth about his death have been unsuccessful.

In a recent reevaluation of the case, VDM released a new video asserting that justice for Mohbad remains out of reach.

VDM had earlier demanded a DNA test to be conducted, alleging Mohad’s wife Wunmi has knowledge in circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

However, in a u-turn, he now claimed that the late singer’s former employer, Naira Marley, and his associate, Sam Larry, have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death but have not acted accordingly.

He said, “Mohbad did not get justice at the end of the day, the truth is that the main distraction was not DNA, the distraction was Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

“They themselves knows what happened to the boy, I’m telling you the truth, all of them know. Up till now nobody has brought proof that Sam Larry or Naira Marley killed the boy, they know themselves, they know what happened that day.

“But they covered it up, they were trying to settle scores on whatever Naira Marley or Sam Larry did to them.”

VDM also pointed out that while Mohbad suffered various forms of mistreatment from them, only one incident was captured in a “cropped” video that circulated online.

Lagos Coroner’s Court Gives Singer Naira Marley, Sam Larry One Last Chance To Appear In Mohbad’s Death Inquest

The Lagos Coroner’s Court, under the direction of Magistrate T.A. Sotobi, has warned that it will force absent witnesses to testify in the inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, if they continue to disregard summons.

The court allowed Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summonses through newspaper and social media notices, The PUNCH reports.

The witnesses include Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley; Samson Eletu aka Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade, the nurse who reportedly treated the singer before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and the driver who drove him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor.

The head of the Aloba family’s legal team, Taiwo Odumosu told newsmen after the trial that Mohbad’s ally, Boluwatife Adeyemo aka Darosha, was the only key witness present at the court sitting on Wednesday.

Odumosu said the magistrate had considered issuing a subpoena on them if they did not appear at the next court sitting.

“Today’s sitting was to continue with the examination of witnesses to know what happened to Mohbad and how he died. So, among all the key witnesses invited and served through substituted means, only Darosha was in court,” the lawyer was quoted by The PUNCH.

“Meanwhile, the magistrate said she would issue another witness summons one last time chance. She said if they fail to appear on the next adjourned date, they will be subpoenaed,” he added.

The court adjourned the hearing to September 30.

Mohbad died at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

His mother, Abosede expressed support for internal resolution within the deceased’s family to the crisis when she spoke on the court premises on Wednesday.

The mother said: “I don’t want anybody to do anything and what his father says should be regarded as the final decision. I don’t want anybody to do anything. What I want is for them to go to church and mosque to pray for him (referring to Mohbad).

“This is because everything people are doing does not make sense. They did not make us (the family) happy. The mother and the father are not happy. We beg them (the government) in the name of God to let us be and allow our family to settle this case.”

Iyabo Ojo Politicised Mohbad’s Death as Movement Against Naira Marley – Seun Kuti

Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has made an accusation against Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo.
He claimed Iyabo Ojo politicised the death of Nigerian singer, Mohbad, as a movement against his former record label boss, Naira Marley.

He made the allegations while reacting to Ojo’s claims that he is “confusing” the youth for saying controversial self-styled social media activist, VeryDarkMan is “a necessity.”
Kuti said he doesn’t believe Ojo’s activism was earned at getting justice for the late singer but targeted at Naira Marley.
Speaking in a video message shared via his Instagram account, the Afrobeat singer said: “I have watched your video, Iyabo [Ojo] but throughout the video you’re just talking about what VeryDarkMan did yet you said I was the one you were calling out.

“But there is one thing that I hold onto, you said I’m a confusionist confusing the youths. [Yoruba] This life is wicked. I’ve been on your podcast before because I bear you no grudge. I bear you no ill will. I stand personal beef. But when it’s political… It was you guys who politicised the death of Mohbad.

“You politicised his death. And I don’t believe you guys politicised his death because you were looking for justice because now what’s the findings? Did you accept the government’s findings? I read somewhere that the government said Mohbad died of substance abuse. If you guys believe the government findings, what are we doing? Justice for what?

“I believe personally, it was a movement against Naira Marley at the end of the day. I don’t see anything other than that. You said we are fighting against bullying in the Nigerian society and 70-80 per cent of celebrities are cultists.

“These are gangs of bullies. Bullies bullying everybody yet everyone is their friend. The gangs constantly bully people and celebrities are their members.

“Everybody is a friend of these members, nobody called them out for associating with gangs even after what happened to Mohbad. What’s happening? Is there any movement against confraternities in Nigeria? Where is the movement for justice for Mohbad now?”

Naira Marley’s Cybercrime Trial Stalled

The alleged cybercrime trial of singer, Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley, was stalled on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The trial could not proceed because parties in the suit are still awaiting approval of a fiat by the chief judge of the Federal High Court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Fashola for alleged cyber crime.

The anti-graft agency preferred the charges on May 14, 2019.

Fashola, who sang the popular song “Am I a Yahoo Boy”, was arraigned on May 20, 2019, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who pleaded not guilty.

Oweibo granted him bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

Witnesses were still being led in evidence by EFCC when Oweibo was transfered out of the Lagos division of the court.

The case was, therefore, transferred to Justice Isaac Dipeolu.

On March 6, when the case was first mentioned before Dipeolu, both defence and prosecution counsel confirmed to the judge that there was a pending fiat awaiting a response from the chief judge.

The judge consequently adjourned the case until Thursday (May 30) for the report.

On Thursday, journalists learnt that the fiat had yet to be approved.

There is no slated date yet for the continuation of the trial.

According to the EFCC, the defendant committed the offences on different dates between Nov. 26, 2018, and Dec.11, 2018, as well as on May 10, 2019.

The commission alleged that Fashola and his accomplices conspired to use different Access Bank automated teller machine cards to defraud their victims.

It alleged that the defendant used a bank credit card issued to another person in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

The EFCC also said that the defendant possessed counterfeit credit cards belonging to different people, with intent to defraud, which, it said, amounted to theft.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1), and 33(9) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015.
