Fuji Legend, KWAM1 Loses Bid To Block Awujale Selection Process

The Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode on Monday declined to grant popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, an interim injunction seeking to stop Governor Dapo Abiodun and five others from continuing with the selection and installation of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

Ayinde, represented in court by Wahab Shittu (SAN), had sought the injunction pending the hearing of his substantive suit challenging the selection process.

But  Justice A. A. Omoniyi dismissed the application, holding that the interim injunction lacked merit and that there were no strong grounds to justify its grant.

He subsequently ordered the expedited hearing of the substantive matter, fixing 14 January 2026 for proceedings.
KWAM1 had declared his interest in the vacant Awujale stool, claiming lineage from the Jadiara Royal House of the wider Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

However, the Fusengbuwa ruling house rejected his claim, stating that he is not from the royal house.

To challenge what he perceived as injustice, Ayinde filed a suit against the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Governor Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, and three others.

The other respondents include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Oke Adebanjo; and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Olorogun Sunny Kuku.

The suit, HC3/238/2025, was filed ex parte, citing Order 38 Rules 4 and Order 39 Rule 1 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction

A copy of the court document dated 16 December 2025 was obtained by our correspondent.

Ayinde urged the court to restrain all respondents from further action on the Awujale selection process to protect his interest and preserve the res from being dissipated or interfered with.

He prayed the court to restrain the respondents, “their agents, or anyone acting on their behalf, from taking any steps in the installation process of the next Awujale of Ijebuland pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”

The musician said he is an aspirant to the Awujale stool, “and the injunction is necessary to secure his interest and preserve the res from being dissipated or interfered with by the respondents.”

With the interim injunction denied, attention now turns to the substantive hearing

scheduled for 14 January 2026, which will determine the fate of KWAM1’s claim to the Awujale stool.

Declare Your Lineage – Royal Family Tells Musician KWAM 1 Over His Interest In Becoming Next Awujale Of Ijebuland

The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode, next in line to produce the new Awujale of Ijebuland, Ogun State, has instructed Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, to confirm his family’s royal lineage to validate his membership in the ruling house.

KWAM 1, in a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode, announced his interest in the stool, describing himself as a “bonafide son” of the ruling house.

KWAM 1 also stated that his candidacy aligns with Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

In an interview with Punch, the Chairman of the ruling house and former National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said only bonafide members of the family would be allowed to participate in the selection process.

Owoyemi explained that KWAM 1, Olori Omooba of Ijebu land and others interested in the stool have been directed to complete the Fusengbuwa ruling house royal lineage data form.

According to him, the form, which requires contenders to trace their genealogy back seven generations, ensures that only genuine princes from the family can participate, thereby blocking “strangers” from claiming the throne.

He said, “The first step for anyone interested in contesting for the Awujale throne is to declare their lineage by filling the standard Fusengbuwa ruling house royal lineage data form. Once confirmed as a legitimate member of the ruling house, they can then apply for the expression of interest form.

“We have told him, just like everyone else interested in the Awujale throne, that the first step is to declare his lineage. He will do this by completing the royal lineage data form, showing his full name, which parent and grandparent he descends from, and continuing up to seven generations.

“The completed form will be signed and submitted to the head of the ruling house unit of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, who will affirm that he is a genuine member. Only then will the process move forward.”

Owoyemi emphasised that although the application window for the throne officially closed on December 5, KWAM 1 had been given a five-day extension, which would lapse on December 10.

He noted, “We won’t shut anybody out of picking the next Awujale, but we must ensure that you are a legitimate member of Fusengbuwa. Every right comes with responsibilities. For a royal family, everyone must prove their legitimacy by completing the royal lineage data form.

“When we receive the form, we will review it meticulously. If clarification is needed, we will contact the applicant. We welcome men of influence who will use their influence to enhance the throne, not to claim it, ensuring that what truly belongs to our family is preserved.”

Owoyemi explained that the local government has given them 14 days to select candidates, and the ruling house hopes to have a new Awujale by the second or third week of January 2026.

He added, “The local government has given us 14 days to select candidates, which expires on December 18. After that, the kingmakers have seven days to deliberate and choose one candidate, whose name will be forwarded to the governor.

“Legally, the government then has 21 days to conduct background checks and security clearance, allowing for objections or protests. After this period, the State Executive Council will ratify the nominee, and the governor will announce the next Awujale, after which coronation rites will commence.

“So, combining the candidate selection, kingmakers’ deliberation, and legal objection period, we are looking at around 42 days. Therefore, we expect the next Awujale to emerge between the second and third week of January.”

JUST IN: FG appoints K1 De Ultimate as aviation security ambassador after viral Airport drama

The Federal Government has appointed Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol following the controversy surrounding his conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the decision on Wednesday while outlining resolutions to recent incidents of unruly behaviour at airports.

According to Keyamo, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced the six-month flight ban earlier imposed on the singer to one month, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will work with him to raise awareness on acceptable behaviour within airport premises.

“The NCAA is to reduce his flight ban to one month. FAAN will also partner with the music star to engage him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward. Having publicly shown remorse, the NCAA will also withdraw its criminal complaints against KWAM 1,” the minister stated.

The move follows appeals from notable individuals and K1 De Ultimate’s public apology over the August 5 incident, during which he was accused of obstructing a ValueJet aircraft’s movement.

The musician stated that the flask he carried on the day contained water for medical purposes, not alcohol as alleged.

Keyamo stressed that the leniency was granted on compassionate grounds but reiterated that the government would continue to strictly enforce safety and security laws in the aviation sector.

The incident involved a heated exchange between K1 De Ultimate, airline staff, and security officials after he reportedly spilled liquid on personnel and walked onto the tarmac, preventing the plane from taxiing.

The NCAA had initially placed him on a no-fly list and filed a criminal case with the police before softening its stance following his apology.

Leaked Audio Links KWAM 1 To Threats Against ValueJet Airline Boss, Kunle Soname (Audio)

Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has come under fresh scrutiny after a leaked audio emerged in which he allegedly threatened Kunle Soname, the owner of ValueJet Airlines, following their recent public clash.

The recording, now circulating widely online, captures the musician recounting his version of events during a heated altercation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

KWAM 1 maintained in the audio that the contents of his flask were water, not alcohol, as the aircraft’s pilot reportedly claimed. He said his health condition required him to drink water frequently, accusing airline staff of disregarding this and subjecting him to what he described as “public embarrassment.”

In the clip, the singer appeared to issue a warning to Soname, vowing that the airline boss would “feel me in his business.” He also boasted of having supported Soname’s ventures in the past through political connections.

“My name is Wasiu Ayinde, nobody does that with me and gets away with it,” the Fuji star said, insisting he neither jumped the queue nor caused trouble before being told he could not board the flight. He alleged that the situation escalated unnecessarily, prompting him to open the flask and pour out its contents to prove it contained only water.

The dispute comes just days after reports of the airport confrontation surfaced, fuelling online debates over the treatment of high-profile passengers and the limits of airline authority.

Suspended pilot details alleged altercation with KWAM 1 at airport

Suspended ValueJet Airlines pilot, Capt. Oluranti Ogoyi, has given a detailed account of her confrontation with Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Ogoyi and her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, were suspended by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for safety regulation violations, while K1 has been banned from flying in Nigeria for six months.

In a written statement cited by The Will, Ogoyi said boarding for flight VK201 began at 8:10 am, when K1 approached the aircraft with a gold flask containing an unknown substance.

“Ground staff requested, as per standard procedure, to verify the contents of the flask, but he refused. He was seen drinking from it, and the staff suspected it contained alcohol, which is prohibited onboard aircraft in Nigeria,” she stated.

According to her, the musician allegedly snubbed the request, saying, “Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”

Security at the aircraft entrance repeated the instruction, but K1 reportedly became confrontational, halting boarding.

“To manage the situation, I left the cockpit to engage him amicably. Without warning, he poured the contents of the flask on me, security personnel, and some nearby passengers,” Ogoyi claimed.

Airport security then intervened, and the Head of Security advised that K1 should not be allowed on the flight, a decision Ogoyi agreed with for safety reasons. She said the incident caused delays, disruptions, and posed risks to passengers and crew.

“After shutting the aircraft doors, I saw Mr. Ayinde still near the aircraft, obstructing movement. I made a public announcement to explain the delay while security worked to move him away. Once he was out of sight, I commenced taxiing and departed for Lagos at about 8:50 am,” she added.

NCAA Petitions IGP to Arrest KWAM 1 Over ValueJets Clash

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has submitted an official petition to both the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, calling for veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, to be investigated and prosecuted over an incident involving a ValueJet plane.

On Tuesday, KWAM 1 attempted to block the aircraft from taxiing after being removed from the flight for reportedly carrying a flask of alcohol.

His behaviour has been widely described as a breach of standard operational procedures and a disregard for aviation safety protocols.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NCAA urged the Attorney-General and the IGP to “launch a thorough investigation into the incident.”

They also called on both offices to initiate “appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 supra and all other applicable laws.”

In addition, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria, recommending that K1 De Ultimate be placed on a No-Fly List until all investigations are concluded.

KWAM 1 nearly knocked down by aircraft at airport

Veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, was nearly hit by a ValueJet aircraft on Wednesday morning at the Abuja airport in a dramatic incident that has sparked widespread concern.

According to eyewitness accounts, the singer was scheduled to board a ValueJet flight from Abuja to Lagos but was reportedly deboarded by the flight crew for allegedly violating aviation regulations. The nature of the violation has not been officially disclosed.

Enraged by the development, KWAM 1 allegedly stormed onto the tarmac and attempted to stop the aircraft from taking off by standing in front of it.

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the Fuji icon can be seen confronting ground staff as the aircraft begins to taxi. The footage shows a tense moment where the plane moves dangerously close to KWAM 1, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Aviation experts and social media users have raised questions about how the incident was allowed to escalate to that point, with some accusing the airline of endangering lives by proceeding with the take-off process despite the presence of a pedestrian on the runway.

ValueJet and airport authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of press time.

According to her, over half of these royalties went to independent artistes or labels, showcasing the democratising power of streaming.
“Spotify listeners discovered Nigerian artistes nearly 950 million times in 2023 and Nigerian artistes own over 80 per cent of the tracks featured on Nigeria’s daily top 50 chart in 2023.

“Over 1,400 Nigerian artistes added to Spotify’s editorial playlists in 2023.

“We are proud to amplify their voices and fuel the Nigerian music revolution.

“As a leader in the streaming economy, we are committed to supporting African creators to make a living from their art and we’ll continue to invest further in African artists to ensure this momentum continues,” she said.

She noted that Highlife, Fuji and Igbo Pop also saw listenership increase in Q1 2024, growing by 240 per cent, 175 per cent, and 270 per cent respectively compared to Q1 2023.
According to her, top artistes remained Fuji King K1 De Ultimate on top, while Highlife finds new life with Umu Obiligbo‘s energy and Phyno for Igbo Pop.

“For top tracks, Fuji gets a fresh spin with Adewale Ayuba’s Koloba Koloba, Highlife goes nostalgic with Chief Osita Osadebe’s Nwanem Ebezina and Igbo Pop gets a vibrant boost with KCee’s Ojapiano.

“Men dominate listeners of local music genres like Fuji (85 per cent), Highlife (89 per cent) and Igbo Pop (81 per cent).

“However, Gen Z, aged 18 to 24 is the leading age group across all the three genres, making up 32 per cent of Fuji listeners, 31 per cent of Highlife listeners, and 46 per cent of Igbo Pop listeners.

“Interestingly, cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Katsina all top the charts for streaming these local genres – Fuji, Highlife, and Igbo Pop.

“The top 5 exported music genres from Nigeria are Afrobeats, Nigerian Pop, Afropop, Nigerian Hip Hop and Afro Rhymes and Blues,” she said.

K1 De Ultimate Begs President Tinubu To Pardon Sunday Igboho

Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal aka K1 De Ultimate has sent a message to President Bola Tinubu.
He pleaded with Tinubu to pardon embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho so that he can return to the country.
Recall that in July 2021, Igboho was arrested by the Interpol at Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Prior to his arrest, the Department of State Services (DSS) declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling weapons in his residence.
The secession agitator was detained in a prison in the Benin Republic but was released in March 2022 to get medical attention on the condition that he would not leave the West African country.
Since his release, Igboho has remained confined within Cotonou.
K1 De Ultimate, in his passionate appeal during a live performance, sang melodiously on the need for peace in the country, calling for Igboho’s pardon.
He urged Tinubu to harmonise all interests, premising his argument on Nigeria’s unity.
He said: “Asiwaju, please anyone who has offended you, kindly forgive them. Irrespective of their tribes — Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa — we need to embrace ourselves.

“Akanbi, please let Sunday Igboho come back home, he’s one of our own. ‘Omo eni o sedi bebere, ka fi ileke si idi omo elomi’ (the borrowed translation is — “One cannot say because one’s daughter has ample buttocks he would put the waistbeads on another man’s daughter”)

“Please when you (Tinubu) settle properly in office, kindly resolve this grey area. Let Sunday Igboho return to his root. Likewise other agitators from various regions, call their leaders to a roundtable discussion.

“I know it is what you can do, and you can do it.”
Kwam 1 further prayed for the success of Tinubu’s administration.
