Why Every Famous Person Or Entertainer Needs Guidance – Nigerian Singer, Iyanya

Nigerian musician Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has shared how he has successfully navigated fame in the entertainment industry for 17 years, crediting his longevity to guidance and mentorship.

The singer made the disclosure in a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, where he spoke about the pressures of fame and the importance of staying grounded.

Iyanya said submitting himself to the guidance of trusted individuals had helped him maintain balance and perspective despite the realities of celebrity life.

“I have been able to maintain fame positively for 17 years because of guidance. I advised my younger self not to take things personal because every famous person or entertainer needs guidance,” he said.

According to him, fame can be overwhelming and deceptive, making it necessary for entertainers to have people who can keep them in check.

“You need one, two or three people in your life to help keep you grounded because everything is going to happen so fast and none of it is real. You’re going to walk into a President’s office, he’s going to know your name, he’s going to sing your song, but it’s not real,” he added.

The singer noted that the attention and recognition that come with fame can disappear just as quickly, stressing that entertainers must not rely on public validation.

“The same guy if you’re not popping two or three years later is not going to remember you. They will have to remind him about your meeting with him,” he expressed.

Iyanya urged celebrities and entertainers to seek counsel and submit themselves to guidance from trusted people in their lives.

He emphasised that such individuals provide moral support and direction, helping public figures navigate the different phases of fame and personal growth while avoiding the pitfalls that often accompany celebrity status.

How Being A Celebrity Affected My Love Life – Singer Iyanya Opens Up On Why He’s Still Single At 39

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, the Nigerian singer, who is popularly known as Iyanya, has opened up about how his career has impacted his love life.

The Kukere hitmaker explained that he is still single at 39 because the ladies he dated in the past manipulated him and often threatened to tarnish his image whenever there is a misunderstanding.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Iyanya said those experiences traumatised and left him with a commitment issue.

“I’m not thinking of a serious relationship or marriage because I’m not mentally ready yet. If you are patient and stick around until I get to a convenient space, then we can do it.

“But for now, to be committed is one of the hardest things for me to do. Because I have been committed several times as a celebrity and each time, I got hurt.

“You know, when you are famous, you always have girlfriends who can’t wait to go to the blogs when you have misunderstandings.

“I’m human, too. It’s not possible for me to be in the music industry for 17 years and all I have been doing is playing games with women.

“Of course, I have emotions, so I’ve met people and fell in love them genuinely. But they always threatened me with going to the blogs whenever we have issues. That kind of made me develop commitment issue because it has happened several times,” he explained.

The single said he has now embraced celibacy due to his struggles with committing to a relationship.

He, however, admitted that he still struggles with staying celibate consistently.

Sometimes You Run Into A Girl Who Gives You Reasons Not To Be Celibate – Iyanya Reveals He’s Struggling With Celibacy

Popular Nigerian singer Iyanya has revealed his ongoing struggle with celibacy, admitting that his resolve often falters whenever he encounters attractive women.

In a candid conversation on the Afropolitan podcast, the ‘Ur Waist’ crooner explained that he often ends up with regrets whenever he broke his celibacy but struggles to stay consistent.

“My celibacy fluctuates; it goes up and down. Sometimes you are trying to stay celibate and you run into a girl who gives you all the reasons not to be celibate. You do what you have to do, you now start missing the celibacy again,” he explained.

The 39-year-old singer said he is not considering marriage now because he believes he is not yet mentally ready.

“I am not thinking of getting married… So, I am very honest when I meet people now. I think that is what has helped me a lot. When I meet you I don’t go, ‘Oh! I’m crazy about you.’ When I meet you I go, ‘Listen, I’m healing. Don’t expect so much from me.’

“Maybe, when I was younger, I wouldn’t mind, I would just say what you want to hear. But now what has really helped me a lot is just saying, ‘I’m not in that space and I’m not going to lie to you or play with your emotions’,” he added.

Why Male Celebrities Struggle To Bounce Back After Hitting A Low — Nigerian Singer, Iyanya

Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has urged fans to show more empathy toward celebrities, noting that fame does not shield them from emotional challenges.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Your Waist crooner reflected on the pressures of fame, describing the life of a celebrity as “a double-edged sword.”

“We need to understand that celebs are humans with deep feelings and struggles like everyone else.

“Beyond the media glamorisation of their lives and personalities is a human simply asking and wishing and yearning to be human like the rest of us. It is a double-edged sword,”Iyanya wrote.

He further noted that male celebrities, in particular, often face even greater internal struggles due to societal expectations that discourage vulnerability.

“For male celebrities, perhaps there may be an even deeper level of struggle to come back up when one has hit a low — because men are wired to be stoic, not show vulnerability, not ask for help or they’d be considered weak,”
he added.
