They Both Belong To Us – Akwa Ibom Gov Pledges Support For Comfort Emmanson, Ibom Air

Pastor Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, has pledged support for Comfort Emmanson, the embattled passenger involved in a confrontation with Ibom Air.

The governor equally pledged support for the airline, which is owned by Akwa Ibom State government.

Emmanson is also an indigene of Akwa Ibom.

Eno, who did not disclose the nature of the planned support, said Emmanson and the the airline “belong to Akwa Ibom State hence should be supported”.

Recall that Emmanson following her altercation with the crew members was remanded and later pardoned by the aviation minister, Festus Keyamo.

She claimed in an interview that she had been traumatized and unable to move around and interact with people any longer as her body had been unduly exposed .

Speaking during a grand reception held for him at his home local government area – Nsit Ubium – on Saturday, Eno advised that Akwa Ibom people should not join the fray in apportioning blames either to the airline or the passenger, who he said might have made mistakes.

He said, “We will continue to support our flagship airline , the Ibom Air. Every Akwa Ibom person should be proud of the airline which has flown our colours.

“Our money is invested in Ibom Air, so you should be proud of the airline. If there was any crisis, do not join issues with others who are spoilers because they don’t love good things.

“Whatever had transpired, we will solve the problem. It was a small mistake, both parties belong to us. The lady is our daughter. When two people fight, there is always the third person to separate the fight.”

Ibom Air: Comfort Emmanson’s Lawyer Speaks On Her Next Plan After Release From Kirikiri Prison

Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after an altercation with the airline’s crew, has yet to decide whether to press charges against the carrier.

Her lawyer, Adefunke Maria, disclosed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, condemning the treatment her client received from the airline’s flight attendant, who allegedly blocked her from disembarking after a flight from Akwa Ibom to Lagos last Sunday.

Maria said, “On the way forward, whether Comfort will allow the sleeping dogs lie, she will inform us, we can’t disclose that online. She is a full-grown adult. If she is going to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. But for now, we can’t decide for her. She will revert.

“For now, she just needs to rest, put herself together.”

Recall that viral videos showed Emmanson and a flight attendant engaging in a physical altercation as security officials tried to intervene. While many Nigerians criticised her aggressive reaction, others faulted the attendant for preventing her from leaving the aircraft.

Particular outrage was directed at the alleged indecent exposure Emmanson suffered during the confrontation with ground staff at the Lagos airport.

Maria accused the airline’s staff of filming the incident and leaking the footage online, an action she strongly condemned.

Emmanson was arrested at the airport, arraigned in court, and remanded in prison the same day. The speed of her prosecution fuelled accusations of selective justice, with calls for similar treatment of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as Kwam 1, who attempted to block a moving ValueJet aircraft in Abuja on August 5, 2025, but was not prosecuted.

On August 13, 2025, Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, ordered that all charges against Emmanson be dropped, leading to her release. He also directed airline operators to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on her.

Despite her release, social media users continue to urge her to seek legal redress. For now, her lawyer says she is taking time to rest and “put herself together” before deciding on her next move.

Peter Obi slams Ibom Air’s lifetime ban on passenger, says justice favors the powerful

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised the decision by AON to impose a lifetime flight ban on a young passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, over misconduct on board.

In a statement on Tuesday, Obi revealed that he had apologised to the airline and its crew for the passenger’s “unacceptable conduct” but expressed shock at the severity and speed of the punishment, describing it as unjust and disproportionate.

Quoting the ancient Greek philosopher Anacharsis, Obi said the incident once again highlighted how “the law is like a spider’s web: it catches the weak, while the powerful break through with ease.”

He questioned the due process behind the overnight sanction and decried a system where the less privileged face swift and harsh consequences, while influential individuals often escape accountability for more serious offences.

Obi argued that while the young woman’s actions were wrong, there should be space for compassion, rehabilitation, and understanding, especially when misconduct may stem from frustration or displaced aggression.

He warned that justice must be consistent to avoid becoming “oppression in disguise,” adding that power must never determine who is punished and who is pardoned.

His words …

“The Poor Must Not Be Punished While the Powerful Walk Free

Yesterday, I sincerely apologised to Ibom Air and its crew for the unacceptable conduct of one of their passengers.

This morning, I woke up to learn that the passenger, the young Ms. Comfort Emmanson in her twenties, has been banned from flying for life—once again showing how our system works, proving the truth of Anacharsis’ words that “the law is like a spider’s web: it catches the weak, while the powerful break through with ease.”

There is everything systemically
Wrong and unjust about this authoritarian decision. What due process was followed over night leading to this sanction? Have we exhausted the avenues of justice and compassionate resolution on this matter?

It is a tragic irony that a young lady in her twenties can be banned for life, while we—her parents —commit worse crimes against humanity and are celebrated; those in positions of authority perpetrate far greater offences that harm the nation deeply, yet move freely in comfort, shielded from consequences, and in Ms. Emmanson’s case, the authorities acted with lightning speed, but the same urgency is absent when dealing with the influential and politically connected.

If this young woman, who indeed acted wrongly, now seeks to apologise, who will hear her cry in a country where the pain of the poor is invisible and the dignity of the less privileged is often disregarded? Justice must be consistent, or it becomes oppression in disguise.

This must change. Justice must be equal for all. There must be room for compassion, for rehabilitation, and for understanding when misconduct stems from frustration or displaced aggression. Power must never determine who is punished and who is pardoned.

May God heal our land.

A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO”

Ibom Air: Prosecute Airport Staff Who Leaked Comfort Emmanson’s Indecent Video – Singer Simi

Singer Simi has reacted to the trending video showing Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson’s indecent exposure.
She demanded the prosecution of airline officials who exposed the lady’s private area.
Speaking in a post on Instagram, she questioned the fairness of punishing Emmanson for her behavior while ignoring the actions of those who recorded and shared the video without editing out the indecent parts.
The singer emphasized that sharing the video without blurring out Emmanson’s private parts was an invasion of her privacy and deserved punishment.
“Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that, and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it out. I personally want to know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because they will face the law.”

“But voluntarily posting her half-naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too because you cannot condemn one madness and leave another one,” she said.
Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on Ibom Air Flight Q153, was involved in a scuffle with flight crew and ground staff after refusing to switch off her phone during takeoff.
The situation escalated, and Emmanson was eventually removed from the plane, with a video of the incident going viral on social media.
