The victim is a Fulani herder named Yahaya Sulaiman. Police responded to the event right away after it was reported. He claimed that he was clearly the target of the attack.

He claims that “before carrying out the abduction, the gunmen reportedly asked a resident where the victim was.”

NDLEA Says Murtala Muhammed International Airport Now One of World’s Most Monitored Airports

According to Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), increased security and anti-drug operations have made it very difficult for illegal substances to be smuggled through Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

In the battle against drug trafficking, Marwa characterized the Lagos airport as one of the world’s most closely watched airports.

During a research tour centered on the agency’s operating tactics on Tuesday, he made the statements at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja while entertaining a group from the Narcotics Control Commission, led by its Director-General, Maxwell Obuba Mantey.

Marwa asserts that in order to combat the growing threat posed by drug trafficking and related criminal activity in the West African region, Nigeria and Ghana must work together more closely.

“We understand that we are effectively reducing the space for criminal cartels to operate within our sub-region by coming together to share expertise in intelligence-led operations and interdiction strategies,” he stated.

He described the visit as part of attempts to strengthen strategic cooperation between both anti-drug agencies, pointing out that it goes beyond a typical study tour.

According to Marwa, the collaboration would allow both parties to share ideas about digital forensics, institutional best practices, and intelligence gathering.

Improved cooperation, he continued, would strengthen efforts to break up illegal drug networks, stop the manufacture of psychotropic drugs, and address money laundering associated with drug trafficking.

In order to formalize their collaboration, NDLEA and NACOC signed a Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU, during the visit.

The pact, according to Marwa, is a major step toward bolstering coordinated efforts against narcotics syndicates that operate in the area.

“We have a legal and practical roadmap thanks to this agreement on fighting the illegal production of psychotropic chemicals, their precursors, and related money laundering operations. It transforms our connection from a casual consultation to an organized, combative, and cohesive front against drug dealers, he stated.

Mantey said in his remarks that the visit was meant to strengthen the two nations’ current relationship and enhance operational cooperation.

Therefore, he explained, “for us, this visit is not about starting a new chapter, but about strengthening an already solid foundation, deepening trust, exchanging experiences, and making our collaboration even more practical and impactful.”

He added that the region’s drug trafficking operations are become more complex, necessitating more robust cross-border collaborations to successfully counter new threats.

Speed Darlington Blasts Bola Tinubu Over 2027 Re-Election Ambition

In light of the nation’s economic circumstances, controversial Nigerian artist Speed Darlington has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign.

In a video posted to his Instagram page on Wednesday, the musician openly criticized second-term aspirations.

Darlington bemoaned government policy failure, structural failure, economic miscalculation, and growing insecurity while casting doubt on the president’s accomplishments since taking office in 2023.

Darlington went on to say that Nigerians would endure “hell fire” if Tinubu were to serve another term. You are striving to be Nigeria’s next president, but you are unfit to hold the office once more. We already know from your first term that you will have a terrible second term.

“You removed the subsidy as soon as you took office in 2023, knowing full well that petroleum is essential to Nigerian life.” Knowing full well that Nigerians are inherently avaricious, the oil industry has plenty of reasons to increase fuel prices. Could you please explain what makes you eligible for a second term?

“You don’t know the job, so you’re not qualified again.” You haven’t taken any action to address Nigeria’s growing insecurity.

Naira Holds Steady: Dollar Trades Between ₦1,374–₦1,400 as FX Market Calms Down in Nigeria

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, both the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) and the parallel market saw the Nigerian Naira move within a comparatively stable range in relation to the US dollar.

The official NFEM rate was at ₦1,374 per dollar, with trading bands between roughly ₦1,362 and ₦1,378, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s exchange rate portal.

Depending on transaction volume and location, Bureau De Change operators in Lagos and Abuja offered the dollar at roughly ₦1,385 for purchases and ₦1,400 for sales in the parallel market, also referred to as the black market.

According to reports, as the Central Bank of Nigeria continued to work to increase dollar liquidity in the official forex window, the difference between the official and parallel market rates stayed modest.

Currency traders observed that despite persistent demand pressure for foreign exchange from importers, tourists, and companies looking for dollar supplies outside of the banking system, market attitude has remained cautious.

Analysts added that changes in crude oil prices, foreign reserve levels, and monetary policy initiatives meant to stabilize the foreign exchange market might all have an impact on the naira’s trajectory this week.

LASTMA to Launch Short Code Hotline for Faster Traffic Emergency Reporting in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, or LASTMA, has revealed plans to introduce a special short code system that will make it simple for locals—especially drivers—to report traffic accidents and exchange real-time traffic data.

In an interview on Monday, LASTMA’s general manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, revealed this, pointing out that the program’s goal is to enhance public-agency accessibility and communication.

He clarified that in order to improve consumer comfort, a more straightforward, toll-free short code would soon take the place of the current long-digit contact line.

He stated, “The agency is working to ensure that we get a short code instead of the long digit that is currently running.”

He states that, pending final certification from telecom service providers, the system is anticipated to become operational in the next two to three weeks.

“Our call center will develop a free short code within the next two to three weeks. We’ve made all the required preparations and are just waiting for the network provider’s final permission,” he continued.

Bakare-Oki stated that in order to guarantee a seamless deployment upon approval, the installation of supporting infrastructure and equipment is currently underway.

He stated, “The agency is working to ensure that we get a short code instead of the long digit that is currently running.”
According to him, the website will allow Lagos residents to report a variety of problems, like as emergencies, traffic jams, reckless driving, operational feedback, and other road-related difficulties.

Additionally, he disclosed that the organization currently runs a digital call center with ten responders who handle complaints and questions in Yoruba, English, and regional dialects.

He claims that LASTMA works closely with important emergency response organizations, including the police, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Bakare-Oki disclosed that between January and March, the agency received close to 300 calls, though he noted a temporary drop due to system adjustments linked to the ongoing transition.

“The system has been experiencing downtime because of the integration,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the short code rollout would significantly improve response efficiency and public engagement once fully operational.

“We assure residents that within the next two to three weeks, we will be fully back online with stronger capacity and improved service delivery,” he added.
