Naira to Dollar rate today Monday, April 6, 2026

The Nigerian Naira opened the week on a steady note, holding firm against the United States Dollar at about ₦1,377.80 in early trading on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The stable start reflects continued confidence in recent reforms and tight monetary measures introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Data from the official market showed only slight movements compared to last week’s closing rate of ₦1,380.79, suggesting the Naira remains relatively resilient despite global Dollar strength.

Official Market Shows Stability

At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, trading activity remained calm, with the local currency hovering close to the ₦1,380 range.

Analysts say improved transparency from the Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching System has played a key role in keeping rates stable.

The system has strengthened price discovery and boosted investor confidence, helping the market avoid sharp swings often seen in previous months.

Parallel Market Holds Firm

In the informal segment, the Naira also showed little change. Currency traders across major commercial centres quoted the Dollar between ₦1,405 and ₦1,415.

Although the gap between official and parallel market rates stands at around ₦32, it remains significantly narrower than past levels.

Experts attribute this to better coordination between regulators and Bureau De Change operators, which has reduced speculative pressure.

Key Factors Driving the Market

Several economic forces continue to shape the direction of the Naira:

Nigeria’s external reserves remain under close watch. After dipping due to recent debt payments, reserves are projected to rise from about $49.29 billion to over $51 billion, supported by oil earnings and foreign inflows.

The Monetary Policy Committee has retained interest rates at 26.5%, a move aimed at curbing inflation and attracting foreign investors into Naira assets.

In addition, reforms in the remittance space have increased foreign currency inflows, as more diaspora funds are now routed through official banking channels.

Outlook for the Week

Market watchers expect the Naira to trade within the ₦1,370 to ₦1,390 band in the official window in the near term.

Attention will remain on foreign inflows, reserve growth, and global oil prices, particularly Bonny Light crude, which continues to trade at favourable levels.

Investors are also anticipating possible policy signals from the Central Bank that could further stabilise the market and reduce the gap between exchange rate segments.

“She can’t even lie” – Man heartbroken as girlfriend sends cousin to pack her things after being caught cheating

A young man has sparked reactions online after sharing his painful heartbreak story about his girlfriend’s alleged betrayal.

The story was shared on Facebook by Auntie Momoza, where the man recounted how he unexpectedly discovered his partner with another man.

Shock Discovery

According to the man, he visited his girlfriend’s house unannounced, only to find her with another man.

Rather than cause a scene, he said he controlled himself and quietly walked away, but later broke down in tears when he got home.

Girlfriend’s Reaction Sparks More Pain

The man revealed that what hurt him even more was her reaction after the incident.

Instead of reaching out to explain or apologise, she allegedly sent a brief message stating that she would send her cousin to pick up her belongings from his place.

He added that she showed no remorse and later told him to communicate with her mother regarding matters concerning their child.

Three-Year Relationship Ends Abruptly

The man explained that they had been together for three years and share a child.

He expressed shock over how quickly everything ended.

In his words: “Please keep me anonymous. I visited my girlfriend’s place unannounced and found her with another man. I managed to control myself and walked away. I got home and cried myself to sleep. I’ve been together with her for three years and we have a child. I expected her to call and try to lie or something, but she only sent me a text telling me she’ll send her cousin to come fetch her stuff at my place. My heart just sank. It seemed like she didn’t even care I caught her in action. No remorse, zero. Her cousin came to fetch her things and that was it. The last text was to tell me that anything to do with the child I must communicate with her mom. I have never cheated or mistreated her. I’ve tried my best to be a wonderful boyfriend and great dad. For her to betray me like this? With a married man? This life neh!!!…”

The post has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many sympathizing with the man while others shared differing opinions on the situation.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock test, which was conducted on March 28, 2026.

In a statement issued by the board’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, candidates were advised to check their results by sending “MOCKRESULT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number they registered with for the 2026 UTME.

Benjamin disclosed that 224,597 candidates registered for the mock examination, out of which 152,586 successfully sat for the test.

The exercise was conducted across 989 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide.

He added that more than 20 centres experienced technical issues during the exercise and have since been delisted by the board.

The JAMB spokesperson also warned candidates to beware of individuals or groups claiming they could manipulate or inflate UTME scores, stressing that such claims are false and criminal.

According to him, “candidates found engaging in such activities risk having their registration cancelled or their results withdrawn”.

The board further reminded candidates that the main UTME examination will commence on April 16.

BREAKING: Senate Approves President Tinubu’s $6bn Loan Request

The Nigerian Senate has granted approval for President Bola Tinubu to secure external loans totaling $6 billion.

The approval is coming barely four hours after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter from the President, seeking the approval.

Earlier, 626Blaze had reported earlier that President Tinubu’s latest loan request was contained in two separate letters addressed to the President of the Senate, which were read during plenary on Tuesday.

The President, in the second letter, also asked the Senate to approve a $1 billion UK export finance loan facility arranged by Citibank, London branch.

ADC Will Lose Presidential Election If Peter Obi Is Not On Party Ballot — Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could lose the 2027 presidential election if it does not include former candidate Peter Obi on its ticket.

Fayose made the remark while also assessing the performance of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Sunday at the PDP national convention in Abuja, Fayose gave a mixed review of Tinubu’s administration.

“I’m happy with what Asiwaju is doing. You don’t have to have 100 percent of any issue before you are said to be doing well, but when you relate our past with our present, he is not doing well,”
he said.

On the opposition, Fayose stressed that ADC’s chances depend largely on Obi’s participation.

“I told you that if Obi is not on the ballot of ADC, that is the end of ADC. It looks like now that Obi will not; Atiku Abubakar will get the ticket,”
he stated.

He also expressed doubts about Obi’s political future ahead of the election.

“It’s impossible for him to go back to the Labour Party. Obi is a good guy, he’s a fantastic guy, but to become the president at this time is difficult,”
Fayose added.

NCC Orders Network Providers To Compensate Consumers For Bad Service

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to compensate subscribers in areas where network service quality falls below the required standards.

The Commission maintained that subscribers should not be required to bear the full burden of service disruptions when operators fail to meet prescribed service delivery standards.

Under this directive, as made available to Naija News in a statement on Sunday by the NCC Head, Public Affairs Department, Nnenna Ukoha, erring operators will compensate affected users directly for breaches of Quality of Service (QoS) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Ukoha explained that the directive is expected to complement existing and ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality monitoring and enforce performance standards.

The NCC is also mandating Tower Companies, which own the critical infrastructure for Quality of Service delivery, such as masts, to invest in infrastructure with measurable outcomes.

“Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) shall be required to pay these compensations for instances of poor quality of service recorded within specified time frames.

“The compensation will be provided in the form of airtime credits, calculated based on subscribers’ average spending patterns and their presence within Local Government Areas where service failures occur.

“The directive is rooted in the Commission’s broader regulatory philosophy that places the consumer at the centre of Nigeria’s telecommunications ecosystem. Telecommunications services today underpins economic activity, social interaction, and access to digital opportunities. When service quality is poor, the consequences affect productivity, commercial activities, and even public confidence in our communications system.

“While regulatory fines have traditionally served as a deterrent against poor service delivery, the Commission is adopting a more consumer-focused approach that strengthens accountability within the industry.

“The Commission has designed this measure to complement existing and ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality monitoring and enforce performance standards.

“Further to this directive by the Commission to MNOs on compensation to consumers, the Commission is also mandating Tower Companies who own the critical infrastructure for Quality of Service delivery, such as masts, to invest in infrastructure with measurable outcomes using sums that it has fined these companies, in addition to other financial fines the Commission will deem appropriate.

“The Commission will continue to reinforce the obligation of operators to invest consistently in network resilience, capacity expansion, and infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing demand for telecommunications services. At the same time, it will deploy regulatory tools that promote fairness, transparency, and accountability across the sector, ensuring that every subscriber receives the quality of service they deserve while sustaining a telecommunications industry capable of powering Nigeria’s digital future,” the statement read.

Babafemi said the intelligence led to a sting operation by operatives of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Strategic Command of the Agency at the Ojo area of Lagos on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

“In the course of the operation, three jumbo size bags were found in possession of the kingpin 36-year-old Akputa Dickson Ejike.

In Taraba State, Babafemi said NDLEA officers intercepted a truck carrying 100 blocks of compressed skunk weighing 135 kilograms concealed in animal feed bags from Garbachede to Gombe State on Tuesday, March 24.

Two suspects, 21-year-old Osama Mamuda and 22-year-old Auwal Umar, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Babafemi noted that the agency has also continued its War Against Drug Abuse social advocacy, conducting sensitisation lectures in schools across Cross River, Adamawa, Oyo, Kano, and Lagos states.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (Rtd), commended operatives from MMIA, SOU, DOGI, Ekiti, Ondo, Benue, Edo, and Taraba Commands for their efforts and praised all commands nationwide for balancing drug supply reduction with drug demand reduction initiatives.
