I Wish Nigeria Was A Better Country – Nigerian Singer, Simi

Simisola Kosoko, the Afrobeats star, who is better known as Simi, has expressed pride in her Nigerian identity, noting that what she loves most about the country is the unique spirit of its people — something she believes cannot be replicated by foreigners.

The Joromi crooner, however, said she wished Nigeria was a better country, adding that if the country was working citizens won’t be migrating en-masse.

Speaking in a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, Simi said, “My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it.

“Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian. Even when they are faking African accents in Hollywood movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent.

“They always fake East Africa and South African accents. Being a Nigerian doesn’t just come as naturally, it just feels like home.

“That is why I wish the country was better. Because I feel like no one would want to leave.”

If IVD Slaps Me I’ll Slap Him Back, We’ll Fight – Blessing CEO Speaks On Domestic Violence Allegations

Controversial relationship coach Blessing CEO has addressed the viral video that sparked panic among her followers earlier in the week.

The video, which showed her looking distressed and claiming to be unsafe, sparked online rumours that she was being assaulted by her partner, businessman Ikechukwu Ogbonna, also known as IVD.

However, Blessing later revealed that her distress was connected to a robbery incident in her home and not a case of abuse.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, she explained that a domestic worker employed as a housekeeper had stolen valuable items from their residence.

According to her, the situation escalated when IVD confronted the worker, leading to a physical exchange that was misinterpreted online.

The mother of two said that she later took down the video following police instructions to allow proper investigation into the robbery.

The social media personality stated that many people jumped to conclusions because of her partner’s past controversies.

She said the assumptions were unfair and insisted that IVD could never assault her, stressing that she was capable of defending herself.

She said: “It was a robbery incident. The boy we employed as a housekeeper robbed us and sold some of our personal belongings. When IVD confronted him, there was a physical altercation. That was what people saw in the video. I only took the video down because the police asked me to remove it so the case could be properly investigated.

“People just love negative stories. Because IVD has been associated with domestic violence in the past, many assume any cry for help means he is beating me. But IVD cannot beat me. If he slaps me, I will slap him back. We will fight.”

Once Beaten, Always Beaten – Veteran Actress, Ngozi Nwosu Opens Up On Surviving Domestic V!olence

Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has shared her experience of surviving domestic abuse in her former marriage, revealing that she suffered physical v!olence even during pregnancy.

Speaking on Real Life Matters With Aunty Ayo, a podcast hosted by actress Ayo Adesanya, Nwosu said she does not view marriage as a “do-or-die affair” and urged women to prioritize their safety over societal expectations.

“I don’t believe marriage is a do-or-die affair,”she said.

“There’s this notion I want to correct people go on social media to post pictures saying, ‘He slapped me, he did this, he did that.’

When you see real beating, correct pummeling, you won’t even remember social media. You’ll forget about it and start struggling for your life.”

The actress explained that she silently endured abuse in her marriage and chose not to make her struggles public at the time.

“I have not told people until now the kind of domestic v!olence I went through in marriage. Even when the press came after me, I told them I didn’t want to wash my dirty linen in public. It was well while it lasted, but I don’t want to talk about it,”
she said.

Reflecting on her experience, Nwosu revealed that she had initially decided to walk away from her wedding because of abuse but was persuaded to stay.

“He beat me even in pregnancy, and I said this marriage is a no-no for me. My senior sister knelt down and begged me, saying he was sorry and asking what the world would say.

I agreed, but once beaten will always be beaten. If you take it once, you must be ready to take it for the rest of your life.”

She also expressed sympathy for women in similar situations, referencing the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose death was linked to domestic v!olence.

“When this thing is too much, you have to move. It’s your life we are talking about here, not that person’s life,”
she added.

Femi Kuti Reveals Secret Of Longevity In Music Industry

Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti has revealed that the key to a long-lasting career in the music industry is creating meaningful and impactful music.

The 63-year-old veteran singer explained that the reason he has remained relevant for over four decades is because he composed purposeful music.

He challenged young artists to humble themselves and learn how to make proper music, warning that failure to do so would lead to dwindling fame and fortune at old age.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Kuti advised young artists to be mindful of their old age when making music.

The interviewer asked: “What do you think is killing the Nigerian music industry now?”

Kuti replied: “When the head is not correct, nothing can be correct. I like what young artists are doing, but what would they do when they are 50?

“The reason, probably, I’m respect is, I will still show dexterity, energy. I’m committed. If I pick up my sax, you will know that this guy is working. I composed everything. You (young artists) buy your songs, and you don’t want to learn. Music is like medicine. The likes of Miles Davies, Stevie Wonder and a few others are renowned because they are working. They are practicing.

“But young artists just rush into making music to get hit songs. You might make two or three. You are young so you are not seeing the danger -the next generation will have their star and then you will fade away.

“I can proudly tell you I’m still touring. It’s because my fans will still introduce me to their children and their children’s children. So you will see very old and children at my concerts. There are people that have followed me for 15, 20 years and still bringing my albums to sign. But why? Consistency. And I have something to offer. If you are not writing your music and you are buying, and you are jumping, would you still be doing that at 40?”

Why Africans Don’t Go Far In Business – Obi Cubana

Nigerian billionaire and business mogul Obi Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has explained why many African entrepreneurs find it difficult to attain global success.

Cubana, in a video circulating online, spoke about the differences between African and Western business mindsets.

He attributed the inability of Africans to achieve global success to a lack of collaboration and an excessive focus on individual ownership.

According to him, most Africans prefer to operate alone, while their foreign counterparts understand the power of partnerships and shared ownership.

He said, “This I must own it all” mentality limits growth and makes it difficult to execute large-scale projects, as individuals often prioritise control over collective progress.

“Why we Africans don’t go far in business is because we want to own it ourselves. Nobody wants to share. You see, But oyibo people, I bet you there might be 20 owners who don’t even know themselves and they come together to make complex project look very simple.

“But our problem is that I want to have Obi Cubana and Sons Limited. whether your sons are interested in the business you do or not and that’s why the moment they die, the business dies.

“The moment they are incapacitated, the business dies because there’s no second or third generation to carry on.”
