How Opral Benson, The ‘Missing’ Iya Oge Of Lagos, Was Found In Liberia

A close family source has characterized the controversy surrounding the whereabouts of Iya Oge of Lagos, Opral Benson, as a serious issue.

Benson, who was earlier declared missing by her family, was reportedly found in Liberia.

In an interview with the Nation, a close family source who spoke on the matter on condition of anonymity said that Benson was never missing, citing issues of conflicts within the family.

The source said, “It is a serious matter. Mama was never missing. “The person who put out the security alert is the same person who is aggrieved that her stepmother went to Liberia. How can your biological daughter take you to your birthplace, where you want to be with your family and friends, and someone begins to make trouble?

“It was her biological daughter, Precious Benson, who took her home on her wish. She went on her wish. She was clearly feeling the pull to go back home.

“Let this be clear: she was not suffering from any kind of dementia or anything. It’s just like you have your own biological children and some other children from your spouse or whatever, always wanting to be at the forefront or in charge of your affairs for whatever reasons.

“What I see in this whole matter is a step daughter being envious of the biological daughter and making her look bad in the eyes of the public; like she was not taking care of her mother.

“The daughter that took her to Liberia is Precious Benson. As we speak, Mama (Opral Benson) is in Liberia and in great spirits. I can even provide pictures of where she had lunch with her relatives and friends.

“The lady that sent out that flier is the stepdaughter that has been making trouble because she doesn’t have a grip over the woman. Why does she want to have a grip over her? So she’s been fabricating tales against Precious, making her feel incapable of taking care of Mama.”

The source also dismissed the assertion that all Mama’s siblings have passed and that there was no one she was going to see in Liberia, stressing that Benson has been angling to visit home.

The noted, “It’s a lie. Even if that were to be the case, doesn’t she have siblings’ children, cousins, nephews? For years. You know before she became this old, she used to go to Liberia and come back. Whoever is behind this whole saga is just capitalising on the fact that she is old. Even when the Bensons heard the news, their reaction was: ‘Which mama is missing, we already know who’s behind that nonsense.’”

Asked if Opral Benson has gone to stay in Liberia permanently, the source added, “No. She’s coming back this weekend. Maybe by tomorrow or Saturday, they would be back. She just wanted to go home to see her people. That’s all!”

I Was Weak And Nauseous – Nigerian Singer, Simi Opens Up On Health Challenge, Praises Chike

Afrobeats star Simi has spoken about the health struggles she endured while recording her latest track, Where You Dey, which features Chike.

Speaking via her X account, Simi disclosed that she had planned on releasing the song last year but could not because of her health.

Simi explained that despite her excitement about the song, the period was physically demanding and emotionally draining.

“I really, really, really wanted to drop this song last year.

“When I first put out the snippet, I was so excited, but it was hard to finish it on time because everything was a blur,” she wrote.

According to Simi, she was battling sickness, fatigue and nausea while trying to push through the creative process, even during the recording of the snippet video.

“I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired, and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to.

“Even in the snippet video, I wasn’t feeling great. I was just trying my best,” she added.

Simi also praised Chike’s professionalism and commitment to the project, noting that his contribution exceeded her expectations.

“I adore Chike’s voice and I knew it was him that had to be on the song with me. When I asked him to give me a verse, he was so ready to go. As soon as he came back into town, he came over to my studio the next day. I’ve got a lot of respect for him,” she said.

She disclosed that Chike was unaware of her condition at the time, adding that watching the studio video later surprised her with how she found the strength to complete the recording.

Beyond recording, Simi said she also struggled with the technical aspects of the song, particularly mixing and mastering, eventually deciding to master the track herself despite disliking the process.

“When the song was done, I struggled to mix it. Even so, I decided to master it myself. I hate mastering, so I don’t know what I was thinking,” she wrote.

The singer admitted she was disappointed about missing her planned release timeline and not being able to promote the song as much as she wanted.

“Everyone had fallen in love with the song and was asking me to put it out. I didn’t have the energy to make content. Given how much I love this song, I’m a little bummed I couldn’t give it the energy it deserves,” she said.

However, Simi urged fans to embrace the song with understanding, noting that it was created with “a lot of love and resilience.”

I Am Ready To Defend Myself – Ex-AGF, Malami Accuses DSS, EFCC Of Violating His Rights

Abubakar Malami (SAN), a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has accused security agencies of actions said to be aimed at frustrating his constitutional right to fair hearing and effective legal defence.

In a statement issued on Saturday morning by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami’s office expressed concern over what it described as a pattern of conduct by state agencies following charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the statement, although the Federal High Court granted Malami bail, the EFCC allegedly delayed the submission of his international passports to the court for about one week, despite the passports being a key condition for the perfection of bail.

The office claimed that the delay prolonged Malami’s detention and obstructed the execution of what it described as a valid court order.

The statement further alleged that immediately after Malami perfected his bail and was released from the Kuje Custodial Centre, he was rearrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to his aides, Malami was detained for five days without access to his lawyers or family members and was only allowed to meet his legal team on Friday after what they described as prolonged isolation.

The office described the detention as a violation of his fundamental human rights.

Malami’s camp said the detention occurred at a critical stage when he was required to prepare his defence in an EFCC interim forfeiture proceeding before the Federal High Court.

It argued that denying him access to legal counsel during this period impaired his ability to consult with his lawyers, prepare court filings and give instructions.

“This amounted to a clear frustration of due process,” the statement said.

The statement alleged that the sequence of events suggested a pattern where arrest precedes investigation, with evidence sought after detention.

It claimed that such an approach violated the rule of law and constitutionally guaranteed rights, accusing the DSS of adopting similar practices.

Malami’s office stressed that bail granted by a court must be respected, warning that no agency should undermine judicial orders through what it described as coordinated delays, rearrests or denial of access to legal representation.

“Mr. Malami remains ready to defend himself fully in court and in accordance with the law, and calls on all state institutions to respect court orders, constitutional guarantees, and the rule of law,” the statement added.

A Shame Of A Nation – How Nigerians Reacted After National Grid Collapsed

Nigerians have criticised the Federal Government over what they described as the embarrassing and frequent collapse of the national power grid.

Earlier, 626BLAZE reported that Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered a total collapse on Friday, plunging parts of the country into blackout in the first such incident recorded in 2026.

According to the figures from the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, power generation fell to zero megawatts, while electricity supply to all 11 distribution companies dropped completely by about 1 p.m.

NISO disclosed that the affected distribution firms include Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja and Yola, all of which recorded zero load allocation at the time of the collapse.

A cross-section of Nigerians, who spoke to Daily Post on the development, said the regular collapse of the national grid is a national embarrassment.

Paul Igbashangev said it was quite disheartening that Nigeria had continued to experience this very often.

He said: “It’s quite unfortunate that our country at this level is always talking of national grid collapsing. The frequent grid collapse is a concern, and we are hoping the authorities will find a lasting solution soon. It is affecting businesses and households alike.”

Another Nigerian, Iwuchukwu Ike, said nothing is working under this administration, lamenting that since coming on board of the administration, it has been from one drama to another.

“The national grid has collapsed again? It’s quite painful that this thing is collapsing on every eke market day.

“I could remember how Peter Obi went to Egypt to see how they’re getting it right. APC supporters mocked him. Now see us see Disco,” he said.

On his part, Ngozi Ikechukwu, said it is too much to bear the current economic hardship.

“See what these people who promised us heaven on earth are doing to us. How can we be battling with national grid collapse when the year has just started?” She queried.

Also speaking, Mustapha Audu said that the Federal Government should adopt the Compress Natural Gas, CNG, to put an end to the constant collapse of the national grid.

“I think what the Federal Government should do is to get a CNG electricity conversion solution to this national grid collapse. A country of 200 million people having a nationwide blackout without a natural disaster like a hurricane? A shame of a nation,” he said.

According to another respondent, Adamu Yusuf, some people are playing politics with the national grid for their selfish purposes.

He said: “There is nothing serious about the frequent collapse of the national grid. Some group of persons are just playing politics with it to make money

“National grid is something that is supposed to take years before collapsing, but it has become business as usual and nobody is asking them.”

On his part, Adah Joseph said the regular collapse of the national grid affects the national economy, causing a decline in the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

“It’s rather unfortunate that the devastating effects of the constant collapse of the national grid has continued.

“This also affects individual businesses of different kinds, especially food related businesses that need constant power supply for the use of refrigerators.

“And as it also affects Nigerians in different aspects, including health facilities.

“It is high time, therefore, that the government included our power sector amongst topmost  priorities to end this embarrassment,” he posited.

In the same vein, Augustine Oyiwona urged the government to invest massively in new transmission lines and substations, stressing that most of them are more than 40 to 50 years

He said: “Manual systems should be replaced with a modern real time grid monitoring system. Transmission Company of Nigeria,TCN, should be run like a technical utility and not a ministry desk.

“As passed by the National Assembly and signed into law, the state governments should legally be made to generate, transmit and distribute power.”

According to another respondent, Paul Igbadi, “To me, it is like total negligence on the side of our government.”

Court Orders Doris Ogala, VeryDarkMan To Stop Talking Or Releasing Videos And Pictures Of Pastor Chris Okafor

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has directed Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, and Kelvin Chimaobi Emmanuel to refrain from sharing videos or images of Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation International (also known as Liberation City), on social media or any other media platforms.

Justice Akintunde Savage, who gave the ruling on Thursday, also restrained Doris and VDM from mentioning or referring to Pastor Chris or his ministry, whether orally or in writing, on any platform, pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by the cleric.

The Judge further restrained the defendants from releasing to the public or to third parties any materials allegedly intended to blackmail or extort money from the claimant, pending the final determination of the suit.

Okafor is the claimant in the suit marked ID/14399GCMW/2026, while Doris Ogala, VDM, and Kelvin Emmanuel are listed as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

The ex parte application was brought pursuant to Order 43, Rules 1, 2, and 7 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, as well as under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

In his ruling on the application filed by Okafor through his counsel, Ife Ajayi, Justice Savage also barred the defendants and their agents from publishing, releasing, or circulating any alleged private materials relating to the claimant, including chats, conversations, text messages, pictures, images, or videos.

Justice Savage also granted an order for substituted service of the claimant’s originating processes, including the writ of summons, list of witnesses, statements on oath, and other documents, through publication in a national newspaper.

The matter was thereafter adjourned to February 2, 2026, for hearing.
