N617 Per Litre Is Extortion, Fuel Price Should Be N150 – PDP Slams Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has slammed President Bola Tinubu accusing him of extorting Nigerians with his fuel subsidy removal.
This followed the recent increase in the price of petrol to N617 per litre.
PDP said the price of fuel should not be more than N150 per litre, adding that the increased rate was a maladministration by Tinubu’s government that has shown extreme insensitivity and callousness towards Nigerians.
The Party cautions that the increase is worsening the already suffocating economic situation under the APC and has the capability of triggering a very serious crisis in the country if not abated.
A statement by PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba said it is appalling that instead of seeking ways to stabilize and grow the economy, the APC administration has abandoned the welfare of Nigerians which is the primary purpose of Government under Section 14 (2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and left the citizens to the vagaries of market forces and exploitative cabal; a disposition that is characteristic of a government that is not accountable to the people.
Ologunagba: “The PDP is alarmed that with its ill-thought out, badly planned and hurriedly-executed policies, the APC is running Nigeria’s economy aground with the value of naira rapidly plummeting, businesses and production shutting down; citizens losing their means of livelihood, commercial and social activities crippled, with millions of families no longer able to afford their daily needs as the costs of food, medication and other essential goods and services continue to skyrocket.

“The present dire situation comes as a consequence of APC’s insensitivity, seething corruption, scandalous cluelessness and lack of capacity to effectively steady and manage the nation’s economy.

“Our Party insists that the N617 per litre of fuel is excessive, unacceptable and cannot be justified under any guise. This is especially given the economic potential and prospects within our country.

“Even with the removal of subsidy on petroleum products, the PDP maintains that with a deft, transparent and innovative management of resources, economic potentials, national comparative advantage and expanded value chain in refining capacity, fuel should not sell for more than N150 per litre in Nigeria.”

I Won’t Interfere With Case — Emefiele Asks Court To Grant Him Bail

The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has asked a federal high court in Lagos to grant him bail, TheCable reports.

Emefiele is seeking bail on self-recognisance pending the determination of the charge filed against him by the federal government.

On July 13, Peter Afunanya, spokesperson of the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed that the agency has filed charges against Emefiele.

The DSS charged Emefiele with two counts bordering on alleged possession of firearms.

Although the case has been assigned to Nicholas Oweibo, a judge, Emefiele is yet to be arraigned.

The bail application, which is premised on nine grounds, was filed by a team of 10 lawyers led by Joseph Daudu.

Emefiele argued that the charges for which he was accused are bailable.

He said he has never been convicted of a crime and should enjoy the presumption of innocent until proven guilty, adding that he is not a flight risk.

Emefiele also said granting him bail would afford him adequate time to prepare his defence.

He added that since investigations have been concluded, there is no likelihood of interference on his part.

The defendant pledged to show up for trial on time and expressed his willingness to offer responsible sureties required by the court.

On June 9, President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele and asked him to transfer his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, deputy governor, operations directorate.

The day after, the DSS announced that Emefiele was in its custody for “some investigative reasons”.

Emefiele has been in DSS custody since June.

My Mum’s Absence Affected My Life – Ex-BBNaija Star, Hermes

Ex-BBNaija housemate and model, Hermes Chibueze Iyele has disclosed that he was affected by his mother’s absence in his life.

Hermes said his dad raised him and his siblings single-handedly but instructed them never to hate their mum.

He disclosed this while featuring on the latest episode of The Nancy Isime Show alongside his colleague, Phyna.

The reality star recalled how he used to be heartbroken when other students’ mothers came for PTA meetings and his mum never showed up.

He said, “One significant thing I think affected me a lot was not having my mum around. A lot of people really think that me looking for my mum [when she went missing from a psychiatric centre], with all the love that I did, she was so present in my life. No. She was absent my entire life.

“My entire life was just longing to.. I will be in school. I will see people’s mums come for PTAs and what not, and I will just feel like, Oh! My God, my mum is so pretty, if she came here now, I would probably have like so many more friends. It never happened.

“The silver lining for me, why I really still have love to give, is my dad. And I think something happened in the Big Brother show, I think we were sitting in the dining room, it was an argument about how men could not… Someone said men could not take care of children as much as women would love and take care of them. I felt really attacked by that because my dad raised me. He did an absolutely great job. He took care of really young kids. Got a bus to hustle and train us through school. It was a lot.”

I Started Hustling At 3 – BBNaija’s Phyna

BBNaija Season 7 winner, Josephine Otabor, simply known as Phyna, has disclosed that she started hustling to make ends meet at the age of 3.

According to her, she started serving at the restaurant of one of her aunties whom she was living with at the time.

She said her dad took her to live with his elder sister in Auchi when she was three years old.

The reality star said she had to pause her education at JSS3 after her dad had a terrible accident and she went to stay with him in the hospital for two years.

She disclosed this while featuring on the latest episode of The Nancy Isime Show, alongside her colleague, Hermes.

Phyna said, “Growing up for me wasn’t really easy. I actually grew up with my aunt, my dad’s elder sister in Auchi. And my aunt sells food, it’s a restaurant.

“Now, imagine a young girl at a restaurant at a very tender age. At 3, I was already in a restaurant serving men. And there is a point my dad had an accident, they needed somebody to be with him at the hospital. I think I just finished my JSS3 then and I had to go with dad from one hospital to another. That caused me SS1 and 2.

“On coming back [to school], they said I should go back to SS1 but I was like, no, I will join my mates in SS3. They gave me a series of exams, I wrote, I passed. Then my parents felt like I needed to go and learn handwork because furthering [my education] is highly impossible. So, that was when I realised, dem don born me dem don born me, it’s time to hustle.

“I attended a federal school. I think my school fee was N14,500 then. I think that was when the hustle started. I started making meat pie, buns, I became my class Rep, I make hair. I saved as low as N50 then. We go to shows, we dance, they pay us, we share.

“After finishing school, I went to serve [NYSC]. I was doing that, I had other part time jobs. I think that was when I took up hyping. I think I followed my friends to the club, I was listening to the hype guy, and I realised I can actually do what he is doing. And that was it. That was how I entered. Even after Big Brother House, some of my friends will be like, ‘Phyna, the way you are hustling, you are not hustling as if you won money at all.’ I said, money dey finish.”

Nigerian Actress, Susan Pwajok Debunks Alleged Affair With Singer Ruger

Susan Pwajok, the Nollywood actress has reacted to the rumours making the rounds that she was in a romantic relationship with Nigerian singer Ruger.

Recall that Ruger admitted last year via an Instagram post that he was dating actress Susan Pwajok after his initial denial on Clout Africa’s Clout Talk Concert 2.0.

His claim was trailed by disbelief on social media.

Ruger wrote: “So Susan Pwajok is my girlfriend. Y’all can get off her d*ck now, thank you.”

Retracting the statement while featuring on MTV Base Africa’s Let’s Get Chatty recently, Susan said her alleged affair with Ruger would remain a rumour until she mentioned that they were dating.

She said even if they were seen kissing, it was still a rumour until she confirmed that she was dating the singer.

Her colleague, Genoveva Umeh, asked: “Babe, I heard that you are dating somebody famous. Can you clarify to the people?

Pwajok said: “At the end of the day, it’s a rumour until you see or hear it from my mouth.

“Until I come and say I’m dating this person, please, it’s fake news. Even if you see a video of me kissing the person, it’s fake until I say yes, I’m with this person”, she said.
