Zamfara Government Alleges Matawalle’s Misuse Of Over N1 Billion In Abandoned Hotel Project

Ex-Governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle has been accused by the Zamfara State government of mishandling over 1 billion Naira in an unfinished Gusau hotel project.

The revelation came from a statement released on Wednesday in Gusau by Sulaiman Bala, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the current Zamfara governor.

According to the statement, the immediate past governor authorized a payment of 1,011,801,545.79 billion Naira to 180 Circle Construction & Engineering Ltd. for the construction of Gusau Motel, a project that remained incomplete.

Furthermore, the Zamfara State government asserts that Matawalle overpaid the contractor by N667,713,161.64 million.

The statement below;

“In the spirit of transparency, the Zamfara State Government considers it its duty to unveil the numerous questionable projects initiated by the preceding administration of Bello Matawalle, with the intent of misusing state funds.

“On July 16, 2020, the former administration of Bello Matawalle awarded a contract to 180 Circle Construction and Engineering LTD. The contract aimed to construct a catering and hotel service centre (Gusau Motel) in Gusau.

“The total cost of the contract amounted to N1,149,288,084.25.

“On August 7, 2020, Bello Matawalle approved the payment of mobilization fees to the firm, totalling N344,786,425.27. However, the contractor vanished after receiving the payment and only commenced on-site work for a year, a clear breach of financial regulations.

“After a year, the contractor returned to the site but was required by the Ministry of Works to provide a written commitment not to repeat such misconduct. This incident sheds light on the type of governance that existed under Matawalle’s leadership.

“For the record, it’s essential to note the following payments and their disbursement dates: On July 6, 2021, Bello Matawalle disbursed N100,420,259.62 to 180 Circle Construction and Engineering LTD. On August 27, 2021, the construction firm received N257,060,936.72. On August 27, 2021, the Ministry of Finance transferred N185,250,000.00 to the contractor.

“Furthermore, on March 24, 2022, the Ministry of Finance released N20,000,000.00 to 180 Circle Construction and Engineering LTD, summing up to 1,011,801,545.79 billion Naira.

“Despite the irregular disbursement of the mentioned funds to the contractor, work on the multi-purpose hall, restaurant, laundry, badminton court, swimming pool, estate roads, soft and rugged landscape, external electrification, water reticulation, and perimeter fence has not yet begun.

“N1,011,801,545.79 was certified and paid based on Ministry of Works and Transport valuation certificates, representing 93% of the total contract amount.

“It’s deeply concerning that Bello Matawalle overpaid the contractor by 667,713,161.64 million Naira, leading to the project’s abandonment. The work completed on-site, as evidenced by pictures, has been appraised at N344,088,384.15, corresponding to 29.94% of the overall progress.

“This goes against the principles of our government’s Rescue Mission and the trust placed in us by the people of Zamfara State to let financial misconduct go unpunished. We are committed to uncovering any actions that have breached the people’s trust and holding those responsible accountable. We are on a rescue mission!”

2023 Supplementary Budget Pragmatic Response to Economic Challenges – FG Replies Obi

The federal government has replied Peter Obi, the presidential candidates of Labour Party in the 2023 election after he criticised the 2023 supplementary budget.
Obi had slammed FG over plans to spend billions of naira on a presidential yacht and the purchase of cars worth billons of naira for the first lady.
Reacting, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said the budget is a bold and pragmatic response to address the current economic challenges.
Idris stated this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Rabiu Ibrahim, on Thursday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Bola Tinubu, on Nov. 8, signed the 2023 supplementary budget into law.
However, Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, claimed that the 2023 supplementary budget was insensitive.
The Minister admonished Obi to take the time and effort to acquaint himself with the details of the N2.17 trillion 2023 Supplementary Budget.
He said that highlights of the budget included allocations for essential sectors, including security, agriculture and food security, works and housing, wage increases for workers, student loan scheme, and social safety nets, among others.

“All these aimed at strengthening the country’s economic foundation and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

“The broad provisions in the supplementary budget is a reflection of President Tinubu’s strong desire and eagerness to support the vital functions of government.

“These include addressing urgent security needs, and fast-track the country’s recovery process from the economic impact occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy,” he said.
Idris urged the opposition to be informed and balanced in the exercise of their right to differing opinions and refrain from misrepresentation of facts for political gains.
He said the supplementary budget was derived from the active engagement and consultations with relevant stakeholders who ensured that the budgetary provisions aligned with the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
“In line with President Tinubu’s inclination to accountability and transparency in government expenditure, all items in the supplementary budget have been meticulously scrutinised to ensure efficient utilisation of public funds,” he added.

Tinubu Never Said Governor Uzodinma Was Blocking Release of Nnamdi Kanu – Presidency

The Presidency has denied reports that  Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State “blocked” President Bola Tinubu from releasing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The denial was issued on Tuesday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He described the report as fake news.
In a statement he released, Onanuga explained that Tinubu never met with Igbo businessmen with the aim of releasing Kanu.
It was reported that Tinubu revealed that efforts by his government to release Kanu from prison have been frustrated by Uzodinma.
Tinubu was reported to have said during the meeting that the Governor gave reasons why releasing Kanu before the Imo elections was dangerous
It was alleged that the President said, “Uzodinma told me the dangers of releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu now that the Governorship election of Imo state is at the corner. My intention was to order for his release a few weeks ago when our brother, Igboho was released but I was surprised when the Governor of Imo State approached me to reverse my decision to do so. My reason to even attempt to release him is to enable the people of the South East geopolitical zone have peace. The zone has witnessed major security challenges where armed security militia, ESN has killed several souls”The fake news on Uzodimma
Reacting, Onanuga urged Imo people to disregard the alleged fake news against Uzodinma.
The terse statement reads: “The people of Imo State should please disregard the fake news in circulation that Governor Hope Uzodimma is blocking the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu by President Bola Tinubu.

“The fake news is obviously designed to build some resentment against the governor who has done very well for his people and who deserves a second term via Saturday’s election.

“President Tinubu did not meet Igbo businessmen on Monday. He didn’t say what was ascribed to him. He didn’t blame Gov. Uzodimma for anything.

“Sahara Reporters did not report the fake news. The link provided did not lead to the fake news on the Sahara Reporters platform.

“It’s all wicked lies by politically desperate people
