The Moroccan-born US-raised rapper, French Montana, has donated 500 canoes to the Makoko community in Lagos, Nigeria.
Makoko is a densely populated waterfront slum known for its stilted and floating structures situated along the Lagos lagoon.
Some weeks ago, Montana shot the music video for his song ‘Wish U Well’ featuring Swae Lee, the US rapper, and Lojay, the Nigerian singer, in Makoko.
The rapper, however, attracted a chorus of criticism from his Nigerian fans for choosing the slum location for his music video shoot.
In a recent statement, the Bronx-raised rapper said he will be donating 500 canoes to the community which served as the primary location for the music video.
He said that local craftsmen, in collaboration with SALXCO, Gamma, and Swae Lee, will construct approximately six boats weekly, with the goal of reaching 500 canoes by December.
He added that after witnessing community struggles, he was inspired “to get involved and to help impact change.”.
“I witnessed firsthand how water is both a lifeline and an obstacle in Makoko. These boats are essential tools transporting the residents of Makoko and goods and services,” the statement reads.
“As an immigrant from Morocco, giving back to communities in Africa, the place that raised me, is so important.
“When I was filming, I met local leaders who talked about the daily struggles and aspirations of the wider community. I was moved by their spirit and positivity, which inspired me to get involved and to help impact change.”
Montana has established a name for himself in the international music space with a number of awards and recognition to his credit.
Recall also that some days ago, he had condemned some banks for helping scammers use his name to defraud people. I know
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the party birthed all other political parties in Nigeria including the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Vice President went ahead to charge members of the PDP to remain loyal to the party.
Atiku made the call on Thursday during a press conference to address the outcome of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in which his petition challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu was thrown out.
Atiku however said despite the outcome, he is still standing strong and party members also have no reason to despair.
“Let me finally give hope to some of the delusional or disappointed members of our party. I am one of the foundational members of this party, and I’m still strong.
“This party gave birth to any other party you can think of in this country today. Whether you are APC, or APM—whatever you call yourself—your mother is the PDP.
“What is most important for us is to make sure we remain loyal and faithful members of this historic party. This is the only party since the creation of Nigeria that is as old as it is today.
“We have a record to protect, promote, and foster. You may be fathers today, but you will always be proud of your grandfather, not to mention your great-grandfather. Why will you not want to be proud to be a member of the PDP? There’s absolutely no reason.
“I, therefore, want to urge our memes to remain loyal and dedicated and foster national unity and cohesion,” Atiku said.
The National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) has lifted the suspension of the chairman of the Lagos chapter of the union, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
Recall that MC Oluomo was suspended in March 2023 over alleged misconduct, insubordination and incitement.

“I am directed to notify you that your suspension from office as the Lagos state chairman of our great union is hereby lifted with effect from today, 1st of September, 2023,” Agbeyanji said.
“The above decision was taken during an emergency Central Working Committee meeting (CWC) of the union dated 31st August 2023 at the NURTW National Secretariat office complex, plot 1236 Sapele Street Garki II, Abuja.
“While thanking you for your cooperation and understanding, please accept the renewed assurance of our highest regards,” the NURTW letter read.
Prince Ghandi Afolabi Laoye, a former pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has been installed as the new Soun Of Ogbomoso by Kingmakers of the ancient town of Ogbomoso on Friday, September 8.
The Areago High Chief, Sobalaje Otolorin led the installation that took place in Abata.
Pastor Ghandi then proceeded into seclusion to commence traditional rites attached to the throne.
Meanwhile, some aggrieved family members approached the court to prevent the installation after the Oyo State Government announced Pastor Ghandi as the Oba-elect of Ogbomoso.
The Oyo state High Court in Ogbomoso had on Thursday restrained Governor Seyi Makinde, the Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters or anyone else from presenting any instrument of office in any form of ceremony or issuing certificate of installation to Olaoye until the final determination of the mandatory injunction already filed before the court.
Earlier, Chief Otolorin disclosed that the kingmakers were not aware of restraining order by any court.
He further proclaimed the new Oba as His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III.
Nigerian reality TV star, Tolanibaj, has said she went on the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) All-Stars edition to have fun, and not because she wanted to win the N120 million cash prize.
The reality TV star was a participant in the ongoing BBNaija All-Stars show.
She was evicted from the show on August 27, alongside Frodd, after receiving the lowest number of votes.
Following her eviction, Tolanibaj received a lot of backlash over her conduct on the show.
She was criticised for fighting over Neo, a fellow contestant, who consistently denied their relationship and maintained that they were just friends.
She was also slammed for pushing for a relationship with Neo.
In a recently released vlog on her YouTube channel, Tolanibaj said she is used to being criticised and judged.
She also said she had already earned the title of “queen of drags” before she entered the Big Brother house.
She added that she was not on the show to win the money, but just to have fun.
“I am used to getting dragged. Before I entered the house, I was queen of drags. I came out of Big Brother show, did I expect to be liked? The game that I played even backfired,” she said.
“I did not go there to win the money. If you remember on day one when they asked, I said no pressure… I am just here to have fun.”
Since her eviction, Tolanibaj has not granted the press any interview.
While explaining the reason for not engaging with the press, she said “I did not feel the need to grant anyone access to me and I wanted to be selfish with my time”.
