President Tinubu To Address World Leaders At 78th UNGA Today

President Bola Tinubu will address the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, by 11 pm Nigerian time.

Tinubu will speak on issues bordering on tackling climate change, illicit financial flows, and asset return to the country to encourage stronger international cooperation.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Francisca Omayuli on Monday.

Tinubu will also highlight Nigeria’s efforts towards attaining the Strategic Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring international peace and security, among others.

Omayuli said the High-Level segment of the 78th UNGA commences today, Tuesday, 19th September 2023, with the General Debate, during which Heads of State will take their turns to deliver their addresses.

She said the General Debate, convened by the General Assembly (GA), will be held this year under the Presidency of Mr. Dennis Francis of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The statement noted: “The direction of the General Debate will be anchored on the theme of the 78th Session, which is “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Solidarity for all.

“As the practice is, member states will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on the theme and present their national positions on each of the thematic items, which make up the overriding theme.”

Omayuli said in addition to the General Debate, Nigeria is expected to demonstrate leadership while participating in the various meetings scheduled for the High-Level week.

The meetings include: “Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for the Summit of the Future, convened by the secretary-general of the United Nations today, Monday, 18th September, 2023. It will be attended by the minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.

“High-Level Political Forum on SDGs convened by the General Assembly (GA) and scheduled to hold on Monday, 18th September 2023; General Debate to hold from Tuesday, 19th – Tuesday, 26th September 2023.

“Climate Ambition Summit convened by the secretary-general of the United Nations and scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 20th September 2023; High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 20th September 2023.

“High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 20th September, 2023; High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage, scheduled to be held on Thursday, 21st September 2023.

“High-Level Meeting on the Fight against Tuberculosis, scheduled for Friday, 22nd 2023; and High-Level Meeting to commemorate the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, scheduled to be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.”

The Ministry noted that Tinubu’s participation at the 78th UNGA, being his first, will undoubtedly enhance Nigeria’s visibility and elicit tremendous goodwill that will help foster closer partnerships with other world leaders and engender better cooperation with development partners.

My Sudden Fame Put Me In Bad Mental State – Omah Lay

Afrobeats star, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has revealed that he struggled with fame which affected his mental health.

The singer disclosed this in his recent interview with media personality, Adesope Olajide, on the Afrobeats Podcast.

Omah Lay said that with time, he became used to it and learned how to move at his own pace.

He said: “At first I struggled, and it put me in a bad mental state because I was still trying to learn my ways.

“However, with time, I got comfortable and learned that I should move at my own pace.

“As soon as I realised that, I became much stronger and began to enjoy my life more.

“If I can put my vulnerabilities in my song, then I can talk about them. My music is all about my real life experiences, and I know the world is listening to it.”

Why I Bear My Mother’s Name – Asake

Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star,  Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, has disclosed why he uses his mother’s name as his stage name.

He explained that while he was in a cultural group people used to refer to him as Omo Asake because his mother’s name is Asake.

He explained that later the ‘Omo’ was removed and he was simply called Asake.

The ‘Joha’ crooner said he found it cool and decided to go by the name.

According to him, “My stage name is actually my mother’s. While I was in the cultural group, people used to call me ‘omo Asake,’ which means child of Asake in Yoruba. And after a while, it just stuck. People  stopped adding the ‘omo’ and left ‘Asake.’ I thought it was cool and decided to go by it.”

Asake disclosed this in Pause Magazine’s Autium 2023 edition.

He also said he would continue to sing in Yoruba.

“It is very important to me, and I am not going to lose it. It is what has brought me this far, and I continue to keep it that way,” he said.

You Shone Brightly Before Your Exit – Toyin Abraham, Femi Adebayo Mourn Mohbad’s Demise

Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham and colleague, Femi Adebayo have mourned the passing of singer, Mohbad.
In separate posts on social media, the stars expressed sadness over Mohbad’s passing.
Recall that Mohbad died last Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday at Ikorodu, Lagos, amid controversies surrounding his death.
Taking to her Instagram page to pay her last respects to the singer, Toyin Abraham on Sunday wrote, “I was in denial, I couldn’t use the ‘was’ for you Imole. I really want to wake up from the dream. I can’t forget the memories on my movie set ‘Ghost and the Tout’ and how you showed a level of humility that is lacking in some of your peers.
 
“Just as your name, Your light shone so brightly I can’t really believe it’s gone. Your death has opened a lot of shocking, complex, and unbelievable underlying stories that sound so hard to let go.
 
“Though we can’t have you back but total justice for you may start the healing process. The necessary government parastatals need to do their job.”
 
Also, paying tribute, Femi Adebayo on his official X, noted that the late singer lived up to his name ‘Imole’ by shining brightly briefly before his exit.
“In memory of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba Mohbad, a star whose musical brilliance graced the world. Though your life was tragically cut short, your music remains a testament to your resilience and artistry. “Imole,” meaning “Light” in Yoruba, was your name, and you lived up to it by illuminating the lives of many.
 
“Rest in power, Imole.”

Tinubu Appoints Hakeem Baba-Ahmed As Special Adviser

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum has been appointed as the Special Adviser On Political issues in the office of Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
His appointment was approved by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.
Baba-Ahmed, who is the elder brother of the running mate to Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election, disclosed this on Monday in a post on his X handle.
He said he was honoured to be given the chance to contribute to nation building.
He tweeted, “It is time to make it public that I have accepted the call to serve as Special Adviser (Political) to the VP.
 
“This is not the time for fence-sitting or criticism when you can be useful in turning the country around. I am honoured and humbled. Please pray for me & Nigeria.”

Enugu Governor Signs Electricity Bill Into Law, Targets 30 Billion USD Economy (Photo)

Peter Mbah, you the Governor of Enugu State has signed a new Enugu State Electricity Bill into law.
The Governor said the signing of the bill into law is a major step towards economic growth of the state.
He said his aim is to make the state the premier destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.
Speaking at the event, which took place at the Government House, Enugu, Dr. Mbah said the quest by his administration to build Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion would translate to a pipe dream without adequate and stable power supply, hence the need for the Electricity Bill, which was transmitted to the House of Assembly about a fortnight ago.
He equally commended the leadership and members the House of Assembly for the expeditious passage of the Bill and for their partnership with the government across party lines for the good of Enugu State.

“As you know, following the Constitutional Amendment and the Electricity Act of 2023, electricity is now on the concurrent list. This will now enable us to play in all the value chain of the electricity industry.
 
“So, Enugu State has spared no time in making sure that we create our own electricity market. That is the crux of this law.
 
“We are now able to play in the generation, transmission, and distribution segments of the electricity market.
 
“We are also, through our regulatory commission, which this Law has given us power to create, going to be able to regulate the activities of these players – the generation, transmission, and distribution companies that will flow from it.
 
“So, this is a significant and very important Law towards the achievement of the Enugu of our dreams because the development and growth of Enugu will all be predicated on the platter that this law has created. You cannot talk about industry or private sector investment if you don’t have electricity or power.
 
“Enugu, under our administration, is designed and indeed prepared to be the premier destination for investment and this law is part of the enablers.
 
“Therefore, we thank members of the Enugu State House of Assembly for the expeditious way they treated this Bill, which has become Law today by this assent”, the governor stated.
The signing was witnessed by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ezenta Ezeani; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh; the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, among other state functionaries.

MohBad Borrowed to Finance Son’s Naming

Late singer Mohbad’s father, Mr Joseph Aloba has made some revelations about his son.
He claimed tht the late singer struggled financially.
In a trending video, Mr. Aloba discussed his efforts to secure funds from the late singer to purchase building blocks for the only piece of land he owned.
He said the former Marlian signee never purchased any building material but only the piece of land where he was buried.
He claimed the late singer struggled and borrowed from thrift collectors to finance his son’s naming ceremony.
He stated that Mohbad was experiencing significant financial difficulties to the point where he had to rely on thrift contributions, commonly known as ‘Ajo’.

Suspected Chicken Thief Apprehended In Enugu Community

A suspected chicken thief has been apprehended in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

It was gathered that the suspect who allegedly specializes in stealing chickens was arrested by a local security group at Orie market on Monday morning, September 18, 2023.

According to one Sunday Ezenwankwo, the suspect allegedly steals chickens in Imilike community, Udenu Local Government Area and sells them at N1000 each.

The security group tied the stolen chickens around the suspect’s neck.

“Here is an Imilke fowl thief specialist. Imilke security group who traced him down to Orie Igbo-Eze Morden market said the man is a notorious fowl thief in their community. Imagine the size of the fowl that this man is selling at the rate of 1k each.”

If Not For The Grace of God, I Would Have Also Died In The Hands of My Former Label – Singer Harrysong

Singer, Harrysong  has reacted to the death of Mohbad.
While reacting to the sad demise of Mohbad, Harrysong said he would have died in the hands of his former record label if not for God and a few good men.
Harrysong was formerly signed to Five Star record label owned by singer KCee’s brother,  E-Money, before they fell out in 2016.
In a post shared on his Instastories this afternoon, Harrysong alleged that he was attacked and abused when he decided he wanted to move on from the label. He stated that if not for God and a few good men who supported him, he would have been dead.
