Nigeria Seeks $2bn China Loan For New ‘Super Grid’ — Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has revealed Nigeria is seeking a $2 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank of China to fund the construction of a new “super grid.”
According to him, the super grid is designed to tackle the country’s persistent power shortages.
According to a Bloomberg report, the , disclosed the plan during the Nigerian Economic Summit held in Abuja on Monday, October 6.
He explained that the new transmission project forms a central part of the government’s efforts to decentralize power generation and improve electricity supply reliability across industrial and commercial hubs.
Adelabu said the proposed super grid will connect Nigeria’s eastern and western regions, linking areas with high concentrations of industrial users that had previously disconnected from the national grid due to its frequent failures.

“It’s part of plans to decentralise power generation in Nigeria and get the heavy commercial users that left the power grid because of its unreliability to return,” Adelabu stated.
He added that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has already approved the project’s financing framework, paving the way for negotiations with China’s Exim Bank to proceed.
The minister noted that the new grid is expected to significantly improve transmission efficiency, reduce power losses, and strengthen electricity delivery to manufacturing and industrial zones. Nigeria’s national grid has suffered repeated collapses over the years, often caused by low generation capacity, poor maintenance, and transmission bottlenecks, leaving businesses and households across the country in prolonged darkness.
Adelabu also highlighted the financial improvements in the electricity sector following the recent tariff reforms, which increased rates for urban consumers. According to him, the adjustment led to a 70% rise in industry revenues in 2024, with projections showing a further 41% increase this year to ₦2.4 trillion ($1.6 billion).
He emphasized that the government’s long-term strategy is to build a reliable, decentralized power infrastructure that can sustain economic growth and restore confidence among industrial power users.

Ruth Kadiri Pushed Me Into YouTube Filmmaking – Omotola Shares Story

Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up on how she started her YouTube filmmaking journey.
According to the star, her colleague, Ruth Kadiri pushed her to embrace YouTube filmmaking.
She stated this during an interview on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, where she recounted how Kadiri persistently encouraged her to join the digital film revolution.
Omotola, 47, said the conversation happened in 2023 while she was on vacation.
“I came on vacation in 2023, and Ruth called me. She said, ‘Mama, do you know what’s going on? There’s a whole revolution with YouTube.’ She showed me numbers and everything,” Omotola said.
According to her, Kadiri described YouTube as a “phenomenal” platform that gives creators control over their content.
“She told me, ‘You can do what you want on YouTube, but I think you should get in on this. You would do very well.’ She didn’t let me rest,” Omotola added.
Eventually, the pressure paid off.
“That girl gave me no peace of mind. So I called my producer and said, ‘Let’s just try something.’ We shot the first project in four days and used the fifth day for cleanup. I surprised myself. I was thankful to her for giving me the courage to try.”
Omotola said the success of her first YouTube project inspired her to shoot Mother’s Love, a feature film that later screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
“Mother’s Love came because I was under pressure. I just told my producer, ‘What if we did a feature film?’ and that was it. We started planning immediately and shot it in less than two weeks,” she said.
The actress admitted she initially felt self-conscious about her return to the screen but decided to push through.
“It took long to release because I was scared people might laugh at me or say it wasn’t good enough,” she added.
Omotola’s move to YouTube marks a major shift in Nollywood, as more filmmakers explore the platform to reach global audiences.
Last year, Ruth Kadiri explained her own transition to YouTube, saying it allowed her more creative freedom away from the “too many regulations” in traditional Nigerian film production.

Trade Fair Demolition: Temper Law With Compassion – Peter Obi to Lagos Govt

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate has sent a message to the Lagos State government over demolition of structures in the state.
He urged the government to temper enforcement with mercy.
He said that being legally correct is not a substitute for being morally right.
This comes after he visited the site of the demolished ASPAMDA Market at the Trade Fair Complex, which he criticised and described the razing of traders’ plazas as a test of the state’s commitment to justice and human dignity.
Last week, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said Obi launched into emotional theatrics when he described the incident as “a test of impunity, justice and compassion.”
The Commissioner justified the demolition as constitutional, noting that the affected traders got ample time to regularise their papers when the state government declared a general amnesty last year, which was extended several times.
In a statement on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi warned that the law must never be wielded in a way that inflicts “undeserved pain” or destroys livelihoods when less destructive remedies exist.
Obi recalled a personal experience abroad to illustrate his point, saying governments should pursue formal legal remedies rather than waking up one morning to demolish homes or businesses.
“Those seeking to justify the current demolitions in Aspamda Market, Lagos, and similar situations across Nigeria must be reminded that the law is not an end in itself; it is a means to ensure order, peace, and the protection of human dignity.

“When the law becomes an instrument to inflict undeserved pain – enforced without compassion or regard for human welfare – it ceases to serve justice.

“Even if, for the sake of argument, some of the affected traders failed to obtain the proper approvals, which is unlikely, was demolition the only option? If opportunities for regularisation truly existed, as some have argued, why were they not pursued?

“Does it truly serve justice to destroy billions of naira worth of investments and livelihoods when less destructive remedies could have sufficed?” He asked.

Korean Actress Brutally Murd£red by a VIP Fan Minutes After Final Live Stream

A Korean actress and influencer, Yoon Ji-ah has been k!lled.
She was murd£red by a VIP fan who left her body in a suitcase in the mountains just 30 minutes after a livestream.
Mail Online reported that the influencer who is in her 20s, was brutally assaulted and strangled to de@th on September 11, before her body was found abandoned in Muju, North Jeolla Province.

Investigators believe she d!ed within just 30 minutes after her final livestream ended.

She had been filming in Yeongjong Island, Incheon, around a three-hour drive away from where her body was discovered.
This led authorities to suspect the internet personality, who had over 300,000 followers on TikTok alone, may have encountered danger almost immediately after ending the live broadcast.
According to local reports, the suspect in the murd£r case, which has shocked South Korea, is a man in his 50s, identified only by the surname Choi.

Choi reportedly claimed to be the CEO of an IT company located in South Korea, and it is said he had approached the influencer under the pretense of a business partnership, promising to increase her followers.

The man was believed to be well-known on video platforms and earned the title of a ‘big-spending VIP’ under his nickname ‘Black cat’, reports media outlet Soap Central.
According to local media, the platform where Ji-ah would host her livestreams employed a ranking system for its users, based on their level of monetary support for the creators.
The higher-level ranks required enormous spending, and Choi reportedly reached level 56, which is said to have cost at least £53,000, reports The News.
Korean entertainment outlet Kbizoom claimed that Ji-ah had wanted to terminate her business deal with Choi before the incident.
Just a day before the victim’s death, Choi was seen in CCTV footage kneeling and begging before her, seemingly pleading for something.
Investigators now suspect that his excessive financial involvement and personal circumstances led to the crime, with reports alleging Choi may have been facing massive debt.
Witnesses reported that they saw Choi dragging a large suitcase from his house before stopping eight at multiple locations – the last being in Muju’s mountains.
He was arrested just 12 hours after the discovery of the body. He initially denied the charges upon arrest but eventually confessed to killing the influencer, according to local media.
The influencer’s devastated mother told reporters: ‘The detective said at 3.27pm, the CCTV showed her about to get out of the car, but she was pulled back inside by force. The door then closed.’
Yoon Ji-ah’s cause of de@th was confirmed as asphyxiation due to neck compression.
