Nigerian Footballer, Ahmed Musa Officially Announces Retirement From Super Eagles

Ahmed Musa has officially retired from international football, concluding an illustrious 15-year career with the Super Eagles that solidified his status as one of the most influential figures in Nigerian football history.

Ahmed Musa, 33, confirmed his decision in a message shared on his official Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon, December 17, reflecting on a journey shaped by loyalty, sacrifice and landmark achievements in the national colours.

“After a lot of thought, I have decided to retire from international football, bringing to an end almost 15 years with the Super Eagles,”
he said.

“From the very first call-up, wearing the green and white meant everything to me.”

Musa recalled the demanding early years of his international rise, when he was moving constantly between Nigeria’s youth teams and the senior side.

“I was just a young boy when the journey started,”
he said. “I remember being invited at the same time to the U-20, U-23 and the Super Eagles. I was young, still learning, and always travelling, but I never complained. Whenever Nigeria called, I showed up. It was never something I had to think twice about.”

That commitment eventually saw him earn a national record 111 caps, a milestone he described as a source of pride and responsibility.

“Playing 111 matches for my country is something I hold with deep respect. To become the most capped player in the history of Nigerian football is a great honour. Every time I wore the jersey, I understood the responsibility that came with it,”
he said.

Musa’s time in the green and white was defined by moments that reshaped Nigeria’s football story. He was part of the squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2013, a success he still regards as a career highlight.

“Winning the 2013 AFCON will always stand out. That team showed what it meant to play for Nigeria,”
he noted.

On the world stage, Ahmed Musa etched his name into history at the FIFA World Cup. He became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a single World Cup match after netting twice against Argentina in 2014, before repeating the feat with two goals against Iceland four years later.

“Scoring at the World Cup, against Argentina and Iceland, are memories I will always carry with me,”
he said. “To score four goals at the World Cup and be Nigeria’s highest goalscorer on that stage is something I am truly grateful for.”

Musa also paid tribute to former teammates, coaches, backroom staff and football administrators, while thanking Nigerian supporters at home and abroad for their unwavering backing throughout his career.

“As I step away from international football, I do so with peace and gratitude. I know I gave my best. I know the Super Eagles will continue to move forward. And I know that this bond will never be broken. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. Thank you, Nigeria. Thank you for everything,”
he said.

At the club level, Musa remains closely involved in the game. He returned to Kano Pillars in October 2024 for a third spell and continues with the four-time Nigeria Premier League champions, where he has taken on the role of general manager.

A Very Dirty Christmas – CAN Blows Hot Over Title Of New Nollywood Movie, Cautions Ini Edo

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed outrage over the title of a new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas.

CAN said it considers the title offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.

The Christian body noted that Christmas is a sacred season that marks the birth of Jesus Christ and represents purity, peace, love and redemption, adding that linking such a holy celebration with the word “dirty” diminishes its spiritual meaning and reduces a solemn religious observance to something crude and sensational.

CAN, in a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, its President, said while it respects creative freedom and artistic expression, such freedom must be exercised with responsibility and sensitivity, especially in a religiously diverse society like Nigeria.

It added that creativity should build understanding and unity, not provoke or offend deeply held beliefs.

The association said it is concerned that a film bearing such a title passed through regulatory and professional channels without adequate scrutiny.

CAN therefore called on the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, to “explain how the title was approved for public exhibition, particularly during the Christmas season”.

CAN also urged industry bodies such as the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, and other stakeholders in Nollywood to take a clear stand on the use of religious themes and symbols in ways that may offend faith communities.

Furthermore, CAN called on “the producers and promoters of the film to reconsider the title, issue a public apology, and take deliberate steps to ensure that religious symbols and sacred seasons are treated with the dignity they deserve. In this regard”.

CAN urged the producer of the movie, Ini Edo, to show sensitivity and address the concerns raised by the Christian community.

“At a time when the nation is already facing serious moral and social challenges, actions that trivialise sacred values only deepen division and erode mutual respect,”
CAN added.

Court Has Ruled She Must Undergo Drug Rehab First – Ned Nwoko Reacts To Regina Daniels’ Claims That He Stopped Her From Accessing Their Kids

A court has ordered Nollywood actress Regina Daniels to undergo drug rehabilitation and be evaluated by the Abuja Social Welfare Department before she can be granted access to her children with Senator Ned Nwoko.

Earlier, 626Blaze reported that Regina Daniels recently vowed to fight for the custody of her two sons, Munir and Khalifa.

According to the thespian, her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, has filed for full custody of her boys, despite the children being in his care.

Speaking via Instagram, she lamented that the repeated public exposure of her children is a deliberate attempt by her husband to garner attention.

The thespian alleged that Nwoko has dismissed all her nannies and forced them to make false statements that she is violent and an alcoholic.

In response, Nwoko, in a statement issued on Tuesday via his Instagram page, denied claims that he prevented Regina from seeing their kids.

The lawmaker pointed out that a court has ruled and given conditions for her to have access to their children.

Speaking on Regina’s displeasure about posting photos and videos of their kids on social media, Ned Nwoko argued that the movie star has, in the past, also posted videos and pictures of their kids on social media, wondering why she is against it now.

Tax System Requires Trust, Transparency – Peter Obi Reacts To Nigeria-France MoU

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has stated that reforming Nigeria’s tax system hinges on trust and transparency.

Obi made the statement via his verified X handle on Wednesday, in reaction to recent reports concerning a tax cooperation Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between Nigeria and France.

He said that while international collaboration is not inherently objectionable, agreements relating to tax administration, revenue systems, and data management demand a high level of openness because of their direct impact on public trust.

“It is therefore worrisome that an agreement of this significance appears to have been concluded without the full terms being made public, and without a clear effort to explain its objectives, scope, and expected outcomes to Nigerians. Transparency is essential in matters that directly affect public revenue and institutional credibility.

“That said, I am not opposed to engaging foreign expertise. However, such engagements must be clearly justified, with a transparent explanation of the specific gaps they are intended to fill, why those gaps cannot be addressed locally, and, above all, the concrete benefits to Nigerians.

“This is especially important because Nigeria is not lacking in tax expertise. The country has a strong pool of qualified tax professionals, advisory firms, and globally recognised consultancies already operating locally, with the capacity to support tax reform and modernisation.

“In light of this, it is reasonable for Nigerians to question why external partnerships are made a priority instead of strengthening and leveraging existing local capacity. Sustainable reform should build institutions from within.

“These concerns arise at a time of significant economic strain. Over 60 per cent of Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty. Youth unemployment remains widespread. Small and medium-scale enterprises are burdened by multiple taxes, while government borrowing continues to rise without commensurate gains in productivity.

“In such circumstances, policy attention should focus on simplifying the tax system, closing revenue leakages, broadening the tax base fairly, and ensuring prudent use of public resources.

“Any agreement or policy initiative that lacks transparency, public confidence, and clearly defined, measurable benefits risks further eroding trust in government. It is therefore imperative that the Federal Government publishes the full MoU, clearly explains its rationale, and outlines the mutual benefits—particularly the tangible advantages Nigeria stands to gain.

“Leadership demands openness, accountability, and commitment to the interests of the Nigerian people. Decisions of this nature must always be guided by what best serves the nation,” he wrote.

Nigerian TikToker, Jarvis Confirms Breakup With Peller, Appeals Against Mockery

TikTok content creator Elizabeth Amadou, popularly known as Jarvis, has confirmed the end of her relationship with fellow influencer and livestreamer Hamzat Habeeb, known as Peller. She also urged the public to stop mocking him in the wake of his recent car crash during a live broadcast.

Jarvis made the disclosure in a live video shared online on Tuesday amid widespread reactions to Peller’s hospitalisation after the incident on the Lekki‑Epe Expressway in Lagos.

Addressing online commentary surrounding the crash and the couple’s relationship, Jarvis said public ridicule was exacerbating an already painful situation.

“It’s always people will mock me. Because I can see concern about this online. People will mock him, stop mocking him. Stop shading him,”
she said.

She stressed that the incident should not be used to define Peller’s character, insisting she never portrayed him as a bad person.

Acknowledging Peller’s emotional challenges, Jarvis described his struggle with emotional control as the core issue rather than malice.

“Yes, he cannot control his emotions. He cannot control. That’s the problem. I can control mine, but he can’t control his. We need to join hands together to help him,” she said.

Confirming that they are no longer together, Jarvis said the breakup was necessary and should not be misconstrued as abandonment.

“Peller is a sweet guy, I do not even want it to even end but it has happened, it has happened,” she said.

Jarvis emphasised that the focus should now be on supporting Peller’s wellbeing and healing.

“The relationship is not the thing now. It’s not saying let’s go back to who we were. The solution is let’s put our heads together to work on him. To be better. Not space of we not talking, it is space of this relationship thing. It is over for now,”
she said.

She explained that the separation was intended to give space for healing and urged supporters and social media users to desist from harmful narratives.

“Stop your shading. How is it helping? It’s not helping. Don’t use it against him. Encourage him. Encourage us. Help us. Stop using our pain to mock us,”
she added.

Expressing emotional distress, Jarvis said the online reactions had deepened the pain surrounding the situation.

Jarvis urged the public to be thankful that no life was lost in the crash and to prioritise wellbeing.

“All you people should be saying is thank God for life. Thank God for Peller. Thank God nothing happened to him.

“I love him, but for now we need to be okay. I’m not okay anymore. I want to be okay. He needs to be okay, he needs to be fine,” she said.

She concluded by noting that breakups do not always stem from hatred but sometimes from a need for clarity and calm.

Earlier, 626Blaze reported that Peller sparked concern on Sunday after crashing his car during an Instagram livestream titled “RIP Peller” on the Lekki‑Epe Expressway.

In the footage, Peller was seen alone in his newly acquired Mercedes‑Benz, visibly distressed and crying during a phone conversation believed to be with Jarvis amid rumours of a breakup.

At several points during the broadcast, he appeared agitated and made alarming statements, including, “I will use this car and have an accident right now,” and later, “I’m scared. I’m scared.”

In a particularly worrying moment, he said, “If you break up with me, people will be mocking me… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”

Moments later, the vehicle was seen veering off the road before crashing into a stone barrier.

Subsequent videos circulating online showed Peller being assisted by bystanders before he was taken to a hospital.
