“Rivers State is entirely for President Bola Tinubu” — Wike declares

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State is fully behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, while promising an end to political violence and internal crises in the state.

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during the unveiling of Rainbow Coalition candidates in Port Harcourt, where he called for unity and collective leadership in Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor said the state should move away from killings and political divisions towards a more united political environment.

Wike speaks on Rivers State’s political future

Addressing those at the event, Wike said, “I’m sure that you have made a statement today for those who might not know, they should know today that Rivers State is entirely for President Bola Tinubu.”

He also expressed confidence that the state would avoid another period of political violence, pointing to the need for unity among political stakeholders.

Wike said, “Speakers have said here that Rivers State is united, that in this dispensation we will not have Rivers of blood again, we won’t have killings and crisis amongst us, rather what we will have is a united one Rivers State and one government.”

His remarks come as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike calls for collective leadership

The FCT minister also rejected the idea that political victory should give one side total control, advocating a shared approach to governance in Rivers State.

He said, “It’s no longer like the candidate of APC has said that winners take it all, it’s going to be everybody’s collective leadership that as far as Rivers State is concerned, in order to continue where the governor of Rivers State has stopped.”

However, Wike’s declaration did not establish how voters across Rivers State intend to vote in 2027. His comments represent his political position ahead of the election.
